Hello everyone! :)
Just finished reading all the news - wishing healing to all who need it ... hope you are all better soon.

Heidi, once again sending healing thoughts to you! Hope you soon have relief from pain. And enjoy your extra day of freedom ... ;)

Theresa, loved the Dog's and Cat's Diaries! :D

Brenda, would love to see Fairport and Rick Wakeman! Both absolute legends!

My children are all safely back in Oz! Haven't heard from D3 (!!!) but D1 had a wonderful time and is totally exhausted ... She came to see us, brought lots of amazing pressies, fell asleep on our couch ... we managed to wake her up in time for dinner, then took her home to sleep some more. SO glad she had a good time! :D

Ok, that's about it, not much happening here - take care my friends. :)

Judy, Richard and I are going to see Rick Wakeman and Jon Anderson at a local venue in October. I think the best part of Saturdays set with Rick Wakeman was that he did nothing newer than stuff he did up to 1975. If you like Fairport you might want to look out for something they have been doing with lots of other famous people. It's called 'Excalibura Celtic Rock Opera', we heard part of it at Cropredy but without the pyrotechnics etc. http://www.excaliburtrilogy.eu/

Evening all!
Just call me sucker!! Ebob isn't going to St Johns tonight so I could have had a night without driving anyone anywhere. BUT, I got a phone call from some younguns who also go to St Johns. When there father is on afternoon shift they have no way to get there - except me...

Judy, I agree D3 (??!!) I'm glad they had a good time and are home safe.

Heidi, I hope to be able to do that when I get my connection back. I'll have a week to hit it hard. For now I'm stuck with only once.

Brenda, we rarely get to go to shows other than Ally's these days. (One day I will change how I spell it, but I'm having a pedantic about phonetics moment). I am looking forward to the day when our choices are ours again!

Julie, feel free to use my initials anytime! We all think of everyone all the time anyway and it's one way of acknowledging those thoughts.

We don't normally go to shows either. In the first 10 years we have been married we have been to the theatre once, we went to see Paul McCartney and a tribute band of Pink Floyd, and to the cinema three times. This year we have been to the cinema twice, been to a music festive (first ever time for me) we are going to see Dr Who Live in October, and the above mentioned Rick Wakeman/Jon Anderson show. Then in November (this is secret so no mention of it on FB) I am planning on taking Richard to see 'The Railway Children' stage show at Waterloo Station for his 50th birthday. Our social life is blossoming now the kids are all grown up.

Great concert you went too Brenda.
Thought you were having a rest from playing taxi Suzy? It is always the way, something comes up.
I should get back to writing up my Avon orders here. I have been inundated with them.
Thoughts, hugs and best wishes to all who need them.
Hope your anti-biotics are working Heidi and CynB. Although I think I read yours were upsetting you CynB. Did you go back to the doc about it?

Hi Viv!
I never get a rest from playing taxi Viv - I just think I'm going to and then something else comes up....

I'm glad I went tonight though. I found out something... Mohawk has gone off and is staying with someone in another town. Even when Three was thrown out his mother knew where he was!! It's only a week and a half until the performance and nobody knows what he has planned. So would Ally mind doing 5 or 6 songs on her own????

Could be you don't know the famous bands they belonged to...Jon Anderson was in 'YES', Jon and Vangelis. Maddy Prior was in Steeleye Span. Jaqui McShee was with Pentangle. Alan Parson was founder of the Alan Parson Project. Also in Excalibur are many other famous artists from famous bands such as Jethro Tull, Supertramp and of course all of Fairport Convention. Maybe they are all to European for your taste Heidi.

I was more into Crosby, Stills and Nash , The Band, Dion and the early Rock and Roll groups. I also liked the music from the 30's and 40's. There are very few groups I like that formed past '70. Queen was a rare exception.

I was into those too, Heidi, but not music from the 30's and 40's. I was a flower child and was very into rock and roll. Jimi Hendrix was one of my favourites back in the day.

I adore swing and boogie woogie, as well as ballads. My tastes can be eclectic. I'm presently on a Kay Kyser kick. Harry Babbitt had the smoothest voice of his era.

Theresa, my mom swears that if I was old enough I would have gone to Woodstock. I love the rock music of the 60's and 70's. The Beatles are my favorites but I also like Jimi, The Who, Janis Joplin and too many more to name. Mitchell was able to name the Beatles at 2 years old.

I was too young to go to Woodstock as well ... no, I was not really too young, but my parents would not have let me go. I am still a rocker at heart, and I still have the "flower child" values in me. I too loved Joplin. What tragic ends to talented lives ... makes you wonder what they would have become had they lived.

I wish I was older during the 60's to really appreciate the quality of music. There is not much like it today. I raised my kids on the good stuff and they still enjoy it. They like the new stuff but will listen to "my" music.
Cover your ears I am about to swear. Just put dinner in the oven. Home made macaroni and cheese. Not the healthiest dinner but my kids love it so I make it once in a while. They never know what kind of cheese I am going to use so it is always slightly different.

Morning all!
I mostly got to listen to the type of music my parents liked when I was young, but later liked a lot of the music you have been talking about. I can see faces in my head but have a mental block on the names - I think it must be the cold I've woken up with. Or maybe it's being inundated with the music my kids like - if you can call screamo music...

Nope, no brain! I might go back to bed and come back later when I can think again.

Well I'm back again, headache free, but with a problem....Musically speaking, most of you know that I am a jazz buff, but my music taste run the gambit from light classics and Opera, to R&B, and gospel...however, most of the aforementioned musicians are unknown to me...a few, the Beatles of course, and most of those mentioned by Heidi, I knew and enjoyed.
Now with that background, and the knowledge that I am the old lady of Sudoku land, with the possible exception of some of the many lurkers, I have been going bonkers for awhile now with a song that I think was from W.W 2, going around in my head. I was a very young kid, yet not only a goodly part of the lyrics, but also the tune keeps replaying in my head and I don't know what started this. Perhaps some of you whippersnappers can google, or ask some of your relatives who are near my age..(remember I was married for almost 53 years, lol) if they can recall a song called...'Now is the Hour When We Must Say Goodbye'...It was a song about a serviceman leaving his love and sailing across the seas to do battle. I'm not sure this is the title, but it was the first line...I think my music teacher had just seen her young man off to war and taught us to sing this sometime around 1946/47. Its such a poignant tune and I am reminded of it as I see so many of our service personnel being sent over seas today.... I would love to find out more about the origin of this song, but am unsure how to do it justice..Hope some of you can help me out.

MAMA, here are the lyrics:

SUNSET GLOW FADES IN THE WEST,
NIGHT O'ER THE VALLEY IS CREEPING!
BIRDS CUDDLE DOWN IN THEIR NEST,
SOON ALL THE WORLD WILL BE SLEEPING,

AND NOW IS THE HOUR WHEN WE MUST SAY GOODBYE,
SOON YOU'LL BE SAILING FAR ACROSS THE SEA,
WHILE YOU'RE AWAY, O, THEN REMEMBER ME,
WHEN YOU RETURN, YOU'LL FIND ME WAITING HERE,

TRUE LOVERS OFTEN MUST PART,
KISS ME, THEN LEAVE ME TO SORROW!
HERE LOVE, I GIVE YOU MY HEART,
YOU WILL RETURN SOME GLAD MORROW,

BUT NOW IS THE HOUR WHEN WE MUST SAY GOODBYE,
SOON YOU'LL BE SAILING FAR ACROSS THE SEA,
WHILE YOU'RE AWAY, O, THEN REMEMBER ME,
WHEN YOU RETURN, YOU'LL FIND ME WAITING HERE.

First recorded in 1928, recorded 8 times in 1947-49, one of those by Bing Crosby. Recorded in the 60's by Frank Sinatra.

I am finding information saying this was originally a New Zealand Folk Song , a Maori Warewell song.

Hi, Everyone! As you can see, I pay no attention to the numbers when I post and left a perfectly good TOPP for Judy. (Well done!) I'll never find a special number post, like 12345. (Yes, I know Tami the Troublemaker snatched that one away from Heidi.)

Hi, Judy, Heidi, Brenda, Suzy, V Viv, Theresa, Tami the T, Rolanda, Mamacita, and MizTricia!

Brenda, Judy, and others, I'm afraid I don't know most of the musical groups or songs being mentioned. I never had a radio of my own and being one of 6 siblings, rarely had an opportunity to meke my own musical choices. I heard quite a bit of music around 1966-1967, because all 3 of my college roommates freshman year flunked out - possibly too busy listening to music and playing? I did my best to read and study over all the distractions. So, Heidi, I'm embarrassed, too. I must have lived under a rock most of my life. I'm not too sure if I'm too old or too young - or just hopelss. Oh, well, not much I can do about it now, I guess.

Thanks, Heidi, for mentioning where to logout after voting for the Pepsi grants. I'm wondering how everyone's voting is going today. I have tried logging out, then logging in. Even much later I am not having success. Maybe they've caught on to us and our ballot box stuffing?

Suzy, I don't think you're being a sucker - just a caring and considerate Mom who not only cares for and provides for her own children but also other children as well! The world is a better place because of people like you! What an example you set for Ebob and Ally/Alie!

V Viv, thanks for letting us know that Mickey posted. Clever hint, there! Sounds like you will be placing a great Avon order! Good for you, Viv! How are the play rehearsals going?

Suzy, interesting news about Three, Mohawk and their female parent!

Finally I see a name I've heard of - Alan Parsons! I mentioned our acupuncturist/budding indie rock star yesterday. She really likes Alan Parsons, but I don't know if I've heard him. I've been listening to some of her recordings. She has a cover of Dream On by Aerosmith and some of her own compositions. Can't tell you how many times I've listened to them in the past week or so.

Tami, is it too late to drop by for some home-made mac and cheese? I haven't made it from scratch in a long time - since our Ds were at home, I'm guessing. Hubby isn't into it too much, and I don't want to eat the whole casserole.

As I read more posts, I've been trying to figure out what happened with my musical tastes. Growing up I listened to what my parents listened to. I remember Jimmy Rodgers singing "Bim-Bombay," Tennessee Ernie Ford singing "Sixteen Tons," Harry Belafonte singing "The Banana Boat Song," etc. I like some of the early rock & roll and rhythm & blues, but also like "folk" music, our kids liked some of the "Oldies" we listened to when they were younger, then I got into some of the stuff Ds listened to in the
