Nola, you had time to chat and I wasn't here! Drat! Take lots of photos today. I hope you get some sleep before the party!! Happy Birthday to the girls!!!

Theresa, I hope your energy comes back soon. I have about 5 loads of yrdnual to do today, but will be out with Ally all afternoon so I'm not sure how much will get done.

Tami, meat shopping is especially bad right now. Here it averages between $8 and $10 a meal for the 4 of us, and only because I only buy the nicer cuts of meat when they are on sale, some of them not even then.

Broni, I'm glad you got to go out on your boat. It's a shame to have one and not get to use it!!

Heidi, have a great time with grasshopper! I'm like Tami, I'd rather make a surprise visit than think I had you running around getting ready for my visit.

LOL MizT - good TOPP!

I forget who asked what I meant about midnight swims. Rookies, girls or women playing their first year in the team, are set aside for special treatment. Dana's rookie year she had to wear a funny hat whenever they were at the hotel. If she didn't wear it, there were consequences. There were other things that lead to consequences too and Dana had one midnight swim - it was cold!! Ally is not as shy as Dana, and has already said some stuff that the team captain has told Dana in an aside could get her in trouble...

I probably shouldn't tell you this but it is too funny. Although Ally is not as shy, she is still a little self conscious sometimes and it manifests in very girly ways. VERY girly. Exaggerated feminity. For example, running like a girl, squealing at the ball... Imagine that on a baseball field and try not to laugh!!

I want to go back to bed and can't. Ally wants me to wake her up at 8 and hubby has just put himself back to bed to try to get some sleep. Apparently my cold made me snore so loudly last night even Ebob could hear me from her room. Poor hubby!! It always happens when I have a stuffy nose!

I think you figured it out, Broni.
The swelling of the foot happens every so often. It's always a bit swollen, since the leg has so much metal in it, but every once in a while it puffs up like a balloon.

Tricia, Jewish holidays tend to run from sunset to sunset. I am not sure about the difference between sunset and nightfall. I will find out. I am cooking for both nights of Rosh Hashanah with a slightly different menu each night. The holiday starts on Sept 8 at sundown. So all my friends can start to drool, the first night menu is as follows: gefilte fish (a patty of cooked, chopped fish that is served cold) which I buy in a can, chicken soup with matzoh balls, roast beef, boneless chicken breast, noodle kugel (a baked noodle dish) a vegetable, challah (egg bread) and some kind of dessert. My mom is making stuffed peppers and stuffed cabbage. The second night is almost the same. The difference is instead of chicken breast I am going to roast a couple of whole chickens and will be using the leftover roast beef and stuffed peppers/cabbage. My in-laws don't eat a lot of red meat.

Suzy, hope your cold doesn't last long. They can leave you feeling dragged out.

My energy never came back today. I'm playing on the computer until a decent hour to go to bed.

Heidi, hope you have fun tomorrow with Linda.

MizT, glad you're enjoying cooler weather. We have warmer weather with higher humidity right now. By Monday it's supposed to be 32C. I must admit we did have a nice respite from that for the last while. Our mornings are still nice enough to sit outside with my first cup of coffee. Boy, I'm going to miss that in the winter.

Well, I think I'll head to bed. It's just after 9:00 PM. I am so having trouble keeping my eyes open.

Have fun Heidi and Grasshopper

Haven't read through thoroughly so can't really post. Just a quick drop-in because the kids are coming over for dinner tonight. It's Chloe's birthday tomorrow so tonight will be the family celebration. Hannah and I went out this morning to pick-up her cake, Chocolate Indulgence! Bless her, the birthday person always gets to choose what they want for their dinner, and she has chosen take-away pizzas! Yay, no cooking for this little black duck. Hubby recently bought a soft serve ice-cream maker. so we are going to give it it's test run tonight. Fingers crossed and bowls at the ready!

Good Morning friends. I am up early to a grey sky and mist/light rain. From the looks outside I would say it has been around most of the night. Everything is drippy, but you do not know it is raining till you walk outside, very fine mist. Not a lot to be inviting enough to take coffee outside so I come here to drink with you. It will be a lot cooler today with the rain, highs of only 80*F (26C)

Theresa, hope your energy has returned today, after your early night. did you sleep well?

Tami, I did enjoy reading about your Holiday, sorry cannot spell it correctly from memory. It was interesting that they mentioned the fish and said it would be served without horseradish, since serving sour foods was not traditional for this day. It was a sweet meal in hopes of a sweet year. The tradition of having a "first fruit" (first of the season) would be difficult now, as we get fruit from the world, and fruits are not so seasonal now. Will you have an apple dipped in honey?? That sounded nice. see, I read a LOT. Will you make a honey cake for desert? Do you make your own egg bread or can that be bought at a bakery? The site I was on had recipes and was very interesting. Boy what I learn because of my sudoku friends.

Suzy, interesting article and a historic moment for Australia. Without you, I would never have known, thanks for the link.

Gail, Pizza and chocolate cake and ice cream, and not a calorie in any of them hehehe. Happy Birthday Chloe.

Heidi, you are forecast drier and warmer than us today. I hope the weather holds nice for Linda's visit.

OK, coffee finished and now to think about making breakfast. Hugs to all and I hope to be back later today.

Yes, MizT... no sign of moisture in the foreseeable future here, and high temp. predicted to be around 93℉ / 33.9℃. Should be nice for Linda's visit. She will be coming to Surreal Farm.

Tricia, I am impressed with the amount of knowledge that you have picked up. I enjoy learning about other cultures and religions and enjoy sharing, with people who want to learn. I am a big believer in the fact that if you understand other culture/religions you will be more tolerant. I do serve horseradish with the gefilte fish. It is a little bland without the added zing of the horseradish. I buy my egg bread, also called challah, from a bakery. I don't have time to bake from scratch when I am working. We do serve apples and honey to help ensure sweet new year. My boys also like putting honey on their challah. I usually put out a squeeze bottle of honey. One year I found little mini bottles of honey on sale and bought one for every person. It made a cute display on the table but was not very practical. I do not serve honey cake as no one in my family particularly likes it. I serve a chocolate cake, or something similar instead (chocolate is sweet . No one usually has a lot of room for dessert anyways.

My Hubby has met quite a few Sudokuists. Makes it easy when I talk about people on here.
He came to bed, after clomping around, two hours after I went to sleep. I tried unsuccessfully not to wake right up. Now I am on here!
Enjoy Linda's visit Heidi.

Happy Birthday Chloe.

MizT, nope, still no energy. I just got up from a three hour nap. Don't know what's wrong, but it certainly hasn't affected my appetite.

Heidi, have a great time with Linda! Hope the gout is gone or soon gone.

Tami, happy Jewish holiday. I got very hungry again when I read your post!

It is very hot here today. I just went outside for a cup of coffee after my nap and it was too hot to sit out there for long. Soon time to turn the A/C back on.
