It has taken me years to learn to identify pond turtle species. The key to the Florida Red-Bellied Turtle is those red-yellow marks on its back, the shape and color of which are characteristic. So is the red belly, but I was not going to cross gator-infested swamp to check its tummy! Feb 18, 2009
