Ah, that's a familiar sight. The big difference between this photo and when I was there is the housing development creeping down the Point Cook - Laverton road. Also, it is terribly dry, isn't it.

You see the lake to the left of the airfield, well my introduction to the Air Force, on day one, was - "You see that lake over there, well put on your shorts and runners and run around the lake. When you get back, shower, change into some decent clothes and go to dinner."
Running around the lake was a neat exercise in decision-making. If you ran too close to the lake you slogged it out in smelly, grey mud - hard going. On the other hand, if you chose to run outside the lake on the hard ground it was easier going - but you ran further.
The run was totally unexpected and a fairly sudden introduction into the new life we had chosen. One year, one of the new cadets ran round the lake and just kept running - through the Guard Gate, up the road - and disappeared. He was never found and they never chased him, mainly because he hadn't been sworn in and therefore wasn't a member of the Air Force.

Hey, I think I went for an excursion to Point Cook went I was a "procurement clerk" for the RAAF (doesn't that sound ... special!) ;)
My candidate for "most boring job in the world"!
But the planes were interesting. :)
