Are the heirlooms all that good?

I don't think the cukes or squash are going to do well this year. They've been blooming, but so far only one squash has started. I grind up and freeze the zucchini for bread.

They are a good table tomato, nice and meaty. I tried freezing them, because was told that they don't can well. The juice was ok, but seemed a little watery.

Cukes hide. you know, until they get too big.

I run them along a wire fence and feed the vine through. Last year I only had 2 plants and got about 20. Ate most of them. Love cucumber sandwiches. Gave a few to my sister. Her plants died off before they produced.

I've heard of people freezing tomatoes. Besides spaghetti sauce, how can you use them?

I just juice them. I use the juice to make sauces (spaghetti and pizza), chili and vegetable soup.

Wonder if you could make tomato pie with them?

Don't know. I've never made tomato pie. Is it a custard pie?

We used to grow acorn squash. Now that's a vegetable I love.

I like most squash. Never cared for it when I was little, but now we eat a lot of it in the winter.

I like to cook. Good thing as we don't go out to restaurants much.

Acorn squash is a squash like pumpkin is a squash, but it is sweeter and lighter. You can eat it with just a dab of butter and sugar or you can use it to improve your pumpkin pie filling.

Have you tried it as a soup? I did once. I liked it, hubby didn't. He's a little picky about vegetables.

Thought he would like it because acorn is his favorite.

I eat out a lot. It's just me and I got tired of Lean Quisine years ago.

What type of restaurants do you go to?

We never had acorn squash soup, nor did we have pumpkin soup. Because I never saw it, the idea didn't appeal to me too much.

I end up eating a lot of fish, chicken and spaghetti.

It's not bad. Light and sweet. I made it because I had a lot put up in the freezer and was trying out different recipes.

For lunch I usually go to a country buffet and load up on vegetables, then it's soup or sandwich for supper.

Love fish and chicken. Every once in awhile I want beef or pork. Love pan fried chicken. Favorite meal is pan fried chicken, homemade noodles, mashed potatoes.

My lunch is usually a peanut butter or cheese sandwich. Here alone during the day, except for the dog.

You make your own pasta?

Just noodles and ravioli dough.

Since I don't have to cook for someone coming home from work, I have my big meal at lunch. I thought that was better for you.

It is, but he works too far away (20 miles) to come home for lunch. I pack his lunch 4 days and he eats lunch with friends on Fridays at Old Time Buffet.
