To take this photograph; in 1970 in a swamp near Ingham, North Queensland; even through a 300mm lens I needed to stand in the swamp, with my camera on a tripod for what seemed a very long time -  just waiting for the right moment. I became impatient, but, just as I was about to press the trigger-release, the male bird opened its wings, and displayed its beak for a perfect photograph.

A similar species, the Roseate Spoonbill, is native to Florida USA. I did not have to work nearly as hard as you to take its photgraph as you did! The one I saw, I saw in my subdivison and stopped the car and took a few photos, the best of which I posted in my gallery:
