yep, Terry, that's where I look.....are you signed up to make comments? Sometimes I want to get on and say something, but am wary of signing up to sites I am not sure about. Usually I just vent my spleen to myself, which is probably easier for everyone...

I personally like your spleen. Vent on! I am a subscriber to imdb but tend not to read/post there. Call me a snob, but there are too many postings there to muddle through to find the folks whose comments are worth reading.

"Snob" - well you did ask Terry - and I like to oblige...AND if only people google-wide knew what they were missing with not being aware of these pages of incisive, in depth, thought provoking comments on films...they haven't lived. Mary NEVER vent to yourself, it's such a waste of highly emotive and intelligent verboseness.
Mary do you know if "The Tracker" is available on dvd?

yes Billy, The Tracker and Walkabout are available as a double dvd set. I don't know about being able to rent it at your local video shop. Btw are they still video shops if they mainly stock dvds?

P.S. I Love You is a chick flick extraordinaire. Three hankies. One full nude backside shot of manly studliness. Opens with a CLASSIC couple's fight and closes with an impossible and improbable promise of future fabulous love for our heartbroken heroine. AND her mother. Two big thumbs up. Best line: In an Irish pub, as sister and best friend insist heartbroken leading lady approach the evening’s entertainer: “They don’t make them like that at home.” Spoken of a U.S. actor PLAYING an Irishman. But you [probably] won’t care.

Finally saw PV...thoroughly agree...what a wonderful movie. They got everything just right!!Perfick!!!

I too am not averse to a little gentle weeping...TMD was a favourite, but then that did have AR in it I think I tend to prefer English restraint to Hollywood wallowing, as a VERY general comment

Terry, The Upside of Anger? Oh dear...but then I have to admit to being seriously moved by Bridges of Mad(d?)ison County, first by the book - paroxyysms of tears which gave me a sinus headache - and then the movie...even with Clint looking like a sharpei.

Got The Tracker and Fahrenheit 9/11 to watch this weekend...whoopeedoo.

SPOILER. Maybe I've forgotten its twee moments 'cause I've not seen Upside of Anger in a while. Main thing I remember is Joan Allen's romp of unbridled rage when she believes she's been abandoned by her husband. Major hoot. And then to learn the poor guy was dead in the woods the whole time, and her guilty response because she's felt fully justified jumping into the hay with first cute guy who comes along. Plus Costner's confusion bordering on abject terror at being put under the microscope by four women simultaneously. I just thought the whole premise was a scream.

haven't seen it Terry, but upon your recommendation I shall track it down and watch it!Does it contain a tasteful representation of KCs posterior? (just for added scientific interest!)

Not certain I can vouch for scientific authenticity, unfortunately. But facial reactions more than suffice, I believe, as Costner plays a guy surprised to find himself falling happily in midlife for a broad who comes fully loaded with major baggage. Please post your opinion after seeing it.

Billy, I'm sure Michael Moore got it right, but don't have the stomach for detailed proof this bufoon of a prez has taken us places we were ill-prepared to go; had no biz going; had no good reason to go; etc. The Tracker, on the other hand, sounds promising. Hadn't heard of it; please post after you see it.

Highly recommend Charlie Wilson's War, particularly to nonAmericans who will see a personality type not uncommon in this country, but seldom seen in the movies. I admire the self-deprecating humor of Brits, Aussies, et al., and forget that it exists in our country as well. Just isn't the norm. To our detriment.

Haven't seen Charlie Wilson's War, but I've heard differences of opinion on it...shall eventually see it one of these days...

The Tracker - just finished viewing it having tried to position myself as to how an aboriginal would feel when confronted with fear/violence/abuse (asked to do this by my lecturer)...the film doesn't overtly portray the latter, but Gulpilil's expressions conveys much of it. De Heer (Rabbit Proof Fence) has made a great film, which on the surface can seem to be a superficial telling of a past history (set in 1922) but ultimately it is encumbant on the viewer to engage fully with what is not being said as much as what is being said...clear as mud? gary Sweet plays the fanatic to a tee. the cross-cuts to Peter Coads paintings depicting violence when violence is being committed is extremely effective...gawd this is sounding like an essay...sorry! If you can find the dvd - give it a burl...

Next F9/11, although looking at the dvd sleeve i think I may have already seen it when it first came out! Can I rememebr it ? NO!

Sometimes after I've seen a pic, there are thoughts I'd like to write down, and generally don't b/c don't want to be considered pompous (or stupid). I suspect lots of others feel the same way b/c I notice 99 people have read the posts in less than a week, yet you, Mary, and I are the only ones currently posting. I want to hear other people's opinions, including when I get blasted for liking a movie someone else thinks had a few too many twee moments. Or whatever. BRING IT. [Yeah. I'm bad!]

One is wondering if one is more "nothing" than "polite" at times...if one didn't blast every so often one would perhaps become severely anally retentive which, in turn, is detrimental to one's health. Is saying "you're wrong" different to a blasting? mmm? It's a good thing one is not judgemental on these pages....

I was here for a reason...ah yes...F9/11, just watched it(again)but can't remember how I responded to it 4 yrs ago. It's difficult to ascertain just how much Moore has manipulated the 'facts' to suit his purpose to highlight what a baffoon Bush is and the lies that he and his administration have perpetrated whilst he's been in office. How much of it is the truth?... it hardly bares thinking about...will Bush and his men ever be held accountable for their actions? I wonder if I have caused a "blastable" offence...but then we too were/are part of the coalition of the willing...

Mary, I am one of the rare Americans who believes politeness is highly overrated. I was slightly exagerating when referring to an all-caps "puhleeze" as a blasting, and was not being defensive. I think it's a hoot to get a good "discussion" going, though cat fights are much more fun.

Billy, re F9/11, I can't watch it b/c I lived it. Know most of the facts, it's just too depressing to see them accumulated at one place at one time. And as a red-blooded Amurikin, let me assure you it would be impossible to make George Bush look like MORE of a buffoon than he really is since it now roundly accepted in this country that he defines the term. Latest approval ratings were in the 20's -- lower than any other president at any time during their tenure, and that includes Truman after the bombs, and Nixon during impeachment.

As for comeuppance, there are some of us who believe in heaven only because we have to believe there will be a day of reckoning. Now, if this political diatribe hasn't offended at LEAST 20 people ... well, hell, I gave it my best shot.

Hello - this is my first venture onto this site. Mary suggested I come here to report/review the movie 'Miss Pettigrew lives for a Day'.
Although the 'day' was amazingly hectic and Miss P's fortunes take many twists and turns, I found it a very enjoyable 'feel-good' viewing. If your love that Art Deco, pre-war London high society era, which I do (possibly from one of my previous lives), you'll like this. And Frances McDormand is always an actress to be relied upon for a good performance. It's no 'Atonement', set in the same era, but fast moving and fun.
