Speaking of JM got me thinking hadn't seen her in a while, so looked her up on imdb and see she's been a very busy girl. Lots of movies out and coming. But I don't think I like her any more. Did you know she'll be 50 next year? How DARE she look so good (grumble, mumble, stuff another chocolate bar in my mouth).

Hey All, yep...did notice that the discreetly monikered Duncan Jones was in fact Zowie Bowie of yore. I wonder why he changed .
Terry, I saw JM on IMDB...think I'll join you in the chocolate stuffing!!!
Saw The Brothers Bloom, a quirky stylised film by the writer/director of Brick (which I adored). A watchable con flick. And speaking of adorable, Adrien Brody was just that!

I adore Adrien Brody. The first time I saw him was in a fairly minor role in The King of hte Hill, I believe. When he was on screen, he was all you could look at he was so magnetic. The Piano spoiled me ... now I resent movies he's in but not in every scene.

I'm with you Terry, he's scrumptious!!!!!He's in nearly every scene in TBB which I noticed was released in 2008 in your neck of the woods, so possibly on DVD by now. Check it out, pour the Pinot, open the box of choccies and prepare for bliss!!!!!

ok first post for November. I went to see This is It yesterday, the Michael Jackson movie. I always liked Jackson's music although not a big enough fan to even have one of his albums. I was intrigued by the idea of a film covering the last few weeks of his life in preparation of his comeback concerts in London. I must admit I came out of the cinema extremely moved and touched by what I saw. And not just a little perplexed by what happened a couple of days after the last frames were shot. The guy was on form, had energy, was professional to the last. I found it desperately sad and incomprehensible that a few hours later he was dead. Go and see it.

For anyone new to the thread, I am the Official Queen of Chick Flicks but this is now officially ridiculous. Couldn't sleep the other night and I watched -- for what must be the 15th time -- The Holiday. I apparently can never get tired of watching Cameron Diaz and Jude Law fall in love. There must be a name for this insatiable appetite, and I'm sure Mary will tell me what it is (Billie, where are you when we need you?).

Fiona, are you French or an expat? If the latter, what is your nationality? If the former, where did you learn English so well?

I'm Scottish, Terry, and have lived in France for the last 23 years, so don't really consider myself as an expat - I'm a Brit who happens to live and work in France!

Mary, I am obviously a philodiazlawist, but the disease is more generic (chronic?). Had to watch Never Been Kissed a number of times b/c I couldn't get enough of the football field scene. Four Weddings and a Funeral too many times to count. While You Were Sleeping more times than I can count. Gawd help me, I'm sick. Sick, I tell you!

Just occurred to me, Rolanda, we may have an escape hatch. I'm proclaiming that if one can answer this questions, one is a videophile, and not a videoholic. Two movies mentioned in the last two pages of this thread -- The Shipping News and Notting Hill -- have an actor in common in major supporting roles. WITHOUT referencing imdb, figure out who it is (though you may, as I had to, go there to find his name).

had to cheat, sorry
Only seen The Shipping News once and that was some time ago...
He was also in 'The Boat that Rocked', 'Danny Deckchair'..
I see he has been busy of late, with at least 5 movies still in the making ~ either still filming or in post production!!!

Children, children, I'm sorry... but loving 4WaaF does NOT qualify one as a romcomphiliac....it is a GREAT movie in it's own right. I personally know a person of unquestionable high standards and impecable credentials who has watched it numerous times and even gets a dreamy look in her eye when the theme song is played on the radio...
Terry, was it the weird-looking skinny Welsh(?) actor (Irfun?) who...shudder....appeared in his underwear in NH and worked on the newspaper in SN?

Yes, Spike in NH. And he looked so normal in TSN.
And, yes, the football field scene. That guy running down the stairs ... gotta go. I'm swooning.

OK, I grew up in a certain period and attended particular schools and hence my childhhood was seemingly dominated by a tune that went...Dominique nique nique.... Debbie Reynolds personified the Singing Nun and the ending of the movie had her joyously warbling songs to little black babies in Africa. I have just seen Sister Smile a more realistic take on the life of Jeannine Deckers. She was a troubled soul who left the convent (to be fair...after the movie was made)and never made it to Africa. It is a Belgian production and I think a good one. It had personal resonance for me but I think a good movie anyway. Now if I could only get that demned song out of my brain!!PS that song outsold the Beatles AND Elvis when it was released.

Saw a good movie called The D*mned United. It told the story of Brian Clough and his ill-fated 44 day tenure as coach of soccer team Leeds United in 1974. It was well made, funny, had great acting and well worth a watch. I didn't know anything of the story, but it was a tale worth telling. Even if you don't like soccer, it's worth a sqizz.

Not a big fan of sports, but I always love movies about teams. Particularly underdogs-become-champions stories.

Well, you haven't lied to me yet as far as I know. So, then (I'm pretty obtuse), according to the title and previous posts, we're to surmise the movie is about lovely possessed personalities?

okay, who's seen 2012? I have - and what a waste of a good evening that was!! Three interminable hours of one disaster after another - very much like Titanic, just when you think nothing else can happen, they find another dramatic situation to add on another 20 minutes of film. Don't waste your time or your money on this rubbish!

Hey Fiona, although I adore JC (the movie actor!) I wouldn't touch 2012 with a bargepole. He once said he does such movies for the money to fund his real love of more esoteric films (and money?).
Terry, there is another expletive that could be used to describe the team and it's behaviour. It was wrongly spelled in a recent Tarantino movie. And this has a lovely ending...it's funny and feel-good too.

I had no desire to see the Tarantino film. "Fun With the Fellows Who Brought You the Holocaust, With Brutal Revenge Killings by A-List Actor." 2012, likewise, not a big draw for me knowing 90% plus had to be computer generated. Not such a big fan of the new effects. Too fast for real time is one thing, but for reality is another. They leave me cold.

Hi Rolanda, 2012 seems a great bonding film for blokes. They can revel in the special effects, safe in the knowledge that should such disasters occur, they would do a much better job of saving the world. They don't have to engage any of those more sensitive emotions, which means all the more to take home to their loving family!!!
