And, of course, of the Cartwright brothers, I was in love with Adam, not Little Joe.

PO'T yes! Did you see him in My Favorite Year? He was brilliant. "I'm not an actor. I'm a movie star!" Brilliant.

A la Colin Firth in anything, as anyone, top of that list goes to ... Alan Rickman, of course. We've had that conversation before, but it's worth repeating.

P o'T..just gorgeous, even at 80 odd in Dean Spanley, he had oomph.
TPOEIAR club is still alive and well, even as a sleaze in Love Actually, doing the dirty on 'our Emma', he had IT.

In THH, RT played Lachie, a prickly Scottish soldier who didn't know he was ...sob.. dying! In his last days he learns the value of ...sob..friendship and caring...sob...from his fellow soldiers...and he was just sooo handsome...

PN in anything. Did anyone ever have bluer eyes? And ... sob ... he was loyal to Joanna Woodward ... sob ... all those years even as ... sob ... she got fat and stayed home to be a good mom while he ... sob ... soared to the heights of stardom. What's the opposite of "louse"? We need a new word for a gorgeous mensch actor. Mary, you're good at making stuff up.

But don't let that rant bely the fact I know and will honor the code because TPOE is and always will be AR.

And how could Our Poor Emma have married KB? Or, more importantly, ACTED with him? He's such a ... a ... overemoter! Excuse me for blustering, but how could someone so fabulishly perfect have such low self esteem?

Sorry Terry, cannot come up with a better word than Mensch. It's not a word that we use over here, but it's a wonderful word to describe wonderful people. And what about HB, pining in his Moroccan cafe for the lost love of his life, who never-the-less has the courage to...sob..let her go....sob

I remember a nasty joke from those days, when KB was feted as the new OW and Emma a relative newbie. She says 'Darling, I'm home...where are you?' and he says 'I'm in the kitchen' and she says 'Oooh, can I be in that too?' And where is he now?????? Yes, I know I could Google it, but the question is rhetorical!

Anyway I also like TGGS(M)SH, though we could delete the tautological (m)s.
I, myself, prefer more hair than on Kojak, you can't deny SM had a headful AND a lantern jaw.... Maybe we should retain the (m)s to include those gorgeous creatures who are somewhat lacking in the upstairs department? Nowadays I do prefer my men to be able to have an intelligent conversation, when they are not being T, but as a young person I was not so disciminating.

Evening fellow Movie Watchers.. I received a message from Mary this afternoon.
Her pooter has broken down, other wise she would let you all know she will not be here commenting on this page for a couple of weeks.
She is abandoning you all, for a 2 week trek through Laos, with her Daughter.

Safe Travels Mary and Daughter!

[Translation for previous post: Taciturn Good Guy, strong, (mercifully) silent, handsome.] TLJ went to Harvard (Al Gore's roommate and lifelong friend) so he'd probably fit the bill of one whose words are few but worth listening to when shared. And if not, I wouldn't care at this age!

Recommend Love and Other Drugs. It's not a great movie, but who cares? You get to watch JG & AH have rousing sex and fall in love in spite of their characters' best intentions.

Ryan Reynolds is becoming one of my favorite actors. He's way cute, but does snarky really well. IMO he saved The Proposal, which is worth watching just to watch him. Also liked him a lot in Definitely, Maybe in which he and Abigail Breslin have a delicious father/daughter relationship.

Recommend Happy Accidents. Came out 11 years ago, but just saw it free streamed on Netflix. Pairs 2 of my fave genres: chick flick + time travel (maybe). Back up, first. If you agree with me that Terminator was a Great Movie because it had one of the most cohesive time travel plot lines ever, then what I say may matter. You know I loved the way hot sex in Terminator, but what really got me was Kyle telling Sarah, "I've always loved you. I came back through time for you." That was what made the ensuing sex scene so hot. Happy Accidents strips away the whole end-of-the-world scenario, and killer android to convince our female protagonist the time traveler is telling the truth, and instead has a sweet, cute, frumpy guy trying to convince modern girl who loves all the wrong guys that he's here from the future to love her and, oh yeah, change her destiny which ends in death this weekend. The movie has to overcome too much length and too many jealous tantrums from the female lead, but if you are willing to knit or otherwise pass the time until the end for the answer to the Big Question, "Does it matter if he's nuts if he's relatively high functioning, his fantasies don't actually hurt me, and he really does love me?" you may have the reaction I did at the climax, which was hair standing up on the back of my neck, which nearly never happens. Hence the long post.

Mia Wasikowska just got rave reviews from the NY Times for the latest Jane Eyre. She played the daughter in The Kids are All Right, and I had no idea she was an Aussie. No hint of an accent (and I can always hear Nicole Kidman's). 21! Wow.

Jamie Bell is in Jane Eyre. (He crashed out of the gates as Billy Elliot.) He's quoted as saying, "(It's true that) most British movies are emotional and I agree that most American actors look manufactured. It's a shame." What does that even mean?

I'm baaaack.... TLJ doesn't NEED to talk (though I have heard he is very intelligent)as long as he looks so darn good.
My daughter saw BS and had to hide at the yucky bits..not MCOT!
Thanx Rolanda for passing on the message.
Saw 1/2 of Julie/Julia before power failure. Liked it...will have to watch the rest.
Final words of wisdom...never underestimate the joy of a flushing toilet!

Welcome back, Mary, to the world of flushing toilets!
I saw BS - only once - could not sit through it again - far too excruciating. That said, I still believe that NP did a superb job in it and well-deserved that Oscar.
Terry - I agree about Ryan Reynolds - he sure looks good but SJ left him for Sean Penn of all people?!?!? (Sorry, not an SP fan)

Hi, Mary, and welcome back to civilization. Two weeks w/o the relative merits of RR vs. SP. Don't know how you stood it. BTW, I count SP as one of the previously bad boys who's redeeming himself by mellowing in his old age. But I could be wrong.

Re J&J, I found the bio of Julia's life fascinating. What a woman, and what a couple. Watching MS & Jane Lynch together great fun. The restaurant scene was cited by NY Times as a Great Movie Moment, watching 2 wonderful actresses at the peak of their game. Glad to see JL getting recognized. She's always been one of my fave actresses. Christopher Guest likes her a lot & she was a hoot in his Best of Show (highly recommend).

Where is everybody? Not watching movies? I saw The Switch on DVD. Not a great movie, but who cares when there's some snappy dialogue between JA & JB and a really cute kid playing a wonderfully odd character.

OMG! Saw Casablanca on tv last night. 'Of all the gin joints....''here's looking at you, kid'! Ooohhh...I was melting all over the floor.
Which got me thinking...are there any films these days about honour? You gotta give up your one true love for some higher cause? I throw it out to our resident experts...
