We have not been to Europe, but will go this fall. Hubby has been trying to research relatives - luckily an unusual last name. We actually plan to go on a tour, but hope to meet some distant cousins one day.

Was it a tour - or college kids backpacking and sleeping overnight in a hostel? (Oh, if only I were young again.)

Oh, my...I'm glad all my kids looked forward to was no school bills to pay. After paying the cost of education we couldn't afford to send them anywhere...we felt we had given them a ticket to whatever they wanted by seeing that they had a first class education...the rest was up to them..they've done fairly well ever since...

It was a tour put together by a chaperone. She has done this for about 6 years. There were about 26 of them (5 guys, 21 girls).

His parents have always doted on him. Anything he wanted, he got. I just hope that he can adjust once he's at U of AZ.

No putting pictures up is really easy. I scaned my dogs today as well as the pictures of my mom, and then just uploaded them to the gallery. I resized them in paint before I uploaded them so they were not too big.

Wow! I'm glad the chaperone had experience! How do you keep 21 girls & 5 guys happy for 4 weeks? Did they know their itinerary before leaving? Was it educationally or culturally centered?

Their rooms and transportation were on a schedule. In each country, she took them to an 'attraction.' They were on their own for food and evening entertainment.

He got a degree from OSU in microbiology and is going to grad school this fall. He's going to have to work, for the first time ever, for the university and take a full load. The school is paying him.
They have an older son who did not get the same attention.

I worked my way through college. If I hadn't gotten a loan and scholarships, I couldn't have gone.

We haven't been able to figure it out. Asked hubby many times why his sister and BIL behaved that way. He doesn't have a clue either.

We wish him well. I can see why you say it will be an adjustment. Working & taking a full load is a challenge, though I'm sure 15 or 16 hours of credits isn't considered a full load in grad school. I hope the other son is all right with the extra attention on his brother. As parents we have tried SO hard to make sure things have been approximately even and equal, though we tried to teach them from the time they were small that FAIR and EQUAL are NOT the same.

I'm sure the parents have their reasons - which truly only need to be known to them and perhaps their children. I just hope there are no hard feelings.

Oh, I know how that goes too...hope he remembers his parents doing for him later in life...usually the one who didn't get the attention is the one who helps out most! Thats called life most often.

His brother doesn't say too much about it anymore. He and I had a talk while he was in HS. He asked me why his father hated him. Told him that his dad didn't hate him and that his brother just demanded more attention. I felt so bad that I told his mom about the conversation, hoping that she might talk to his dad. Don't know if she ever did.

I just keep my mouth shut. If they say something about what is going on, I might ask a vague question. Told hubby, 'My name is Bess and I'm not in this mess.'

If it continues to bother him, maybe one day he will ask his parents why the treatment was different. You can only hope that there is a valid and logical reason that he will understand.

I doubt he'll say anything. He's pretty private about his life. He married a girl 5 years his senior with 2 boys. They now have 2 more, less than a year apart.

Really, MizT? I've never heard it before. Is it regional? - Or maybe I've led a very sheltered life.
