Should Beehive be barred from access to this site?

Is his conduct such that the police should be summoned?

28/Apr/07 10:14 AM
James  From CA
I have just seen this site and came across that last post by Ian from Boston. It intrigued me to the point where I just had to have a look and see what transpired on this site to lead to such a post. Fortunately the relevant posts were not too far away in archives. I only saw a few posts from beehive and some about him, (I presume a male since Gath named him as Greg). I saw nothing that could be remotely classed as offensive or illegal in any way, shape or form. Of course I am not aware if any posts have been deleted, (someone, ap from Boston alluded to the possibility).

As for the matter being of being barred access to a site, I am not aware of any laws in any western countries, (there are laws in certain Totalitarian States that bar internet access), that make it illegal for any person to visit a public website. Trying to stop someone from using an internet site is like putting a large sign in your front yard, then trying to legally ban people from seeing it. Of course if the host of the site, (for this site I presume, Gath), has the technical knowhow and the right software he can block any person from posting on the site by blocking their IP address. This leads us to the fact that the person, (as stated by Hugh from Canberra), can simply change their ISP, (changing their name won't work as their computer will be blocked). This however is not even necessary as their are numerous sites on the internet that provide alternative ways to circumvent such bans. Beehive must know this as Gath has said that he has disregarded the ban and continues to post. THIS IS NOT ILLEGAL. It may be frustrating for the host, but there is nothing that can be done about it except continued blocking of their IP address.

The allegation of harassing people in a chatroom is ludicrous as all a person has to do is either leave, or click on the ignore button. The chatroom on this site has NO moderator to ban people and it is common knowledge that you have freedom of speech,(unless the programmer has applied filtering of certain words or characters), in most chatrooms found on the internet.
Unless beehive has been trying to entice minors for sexual activity or has been promoting illegal literature, he has has not committed any crime whatsoever. In fact, I would say if he had any brains and took a copy of that post from Gath, he would have a good chance at a lawsuit against Gath for libel, if, of course Greg Evans is his real name.

Rosemary:
I hope you don't mind my moving your question to the next page. It seems to have fallen behind.

Ok questions for all to ponder
Are you afraid of getting old?
And, would you prefer to live in the retirement home or live with young people?
Maybe can add
what are you unable to do now that you are older that you used to be able to do when young?
what are you able to do now that you couldnt when younger?

I do not think that you have all the information of posts that have been deleted or things that have happened on the site over a long period of time, unless you are on here 24/7.
Gath, as he said has not wanted to do this but has little choice.
There are rules on the site to be adhered to, if you don't like those rules then don't frequent the site. Perhaps he could invent his own site and make up his own rules that make him happy.

Jeb
thank you for re listing the last topic I posted.
I am not afraid of getting older but everything just gets a little harder to do and takes longer to achieve.
I would prefer to stay independent for as long as possible but I think a parents revenge is to have the kids look after you in your old age..... only joking Lauren. I think retirement complexes are a great idea with whatever level support you need at the time.
mmmmm what can I not do now that I could do when younger ........
play energetic sports like netball, basketball, tennis
have kids ... oops sorry ...... children
remember what the topic is without going back to re read .... lol
run, sneeze or cough without consequences .... rotfl
Now
what can I do now that I couldnt do when young?relax,
choose more wisely,
think before I speak ..... yes I do
am more relaxed with myself
mmmmmmmmmm need more time to think for this part of the question, I may revisit with more ideas.
I told you it takes longer to do everything!!

I hope you don't mind me copying your list jeb on the cant's and can's etc.

Cant's:
Run up Covent Garden tube steps (193) like I did with my friends way back when without oxygen, I know I tried it with my daughter two weeks ago, I won't tell you how far I got but 999 (911) was on my mobile ready...(thank god the deodorant was working!)
Cough and laugh without consequences (Rose rotfl)
Can't remember important stuff even though I know I should like where do you live?
Can't remember the answers to questions even though I asked them 20 minutes before and got a reply..
Can's:
Remember when my dad told me 'Semper ubi sub ubi' at the age of fourteen, which I repeated to my Latin teacher at my oh so posh Queen Elizabeth Grammar School, she asked who told me that, 'my father' I said, she asked to meet my father, she wore exceedingly short skirts and I'm sure that my father knew that all along..
Hang around a bunch of old farts and not understand what they are talking about but its fun anyway..
Hang around a bunch of kids and not understand what they are talking about but its fun anyway..
Hang around with a bunch of women in both the real and the 'virtual sudoku' life and understand everything they are talking about and laugh all the time when we write chapters and poetry xxx much love to them xxx
Drive to school in my pyjamas, not caring that I look like a hedgehog gone backwards through a vacuum, to get my children to school on time because they slept in..
Read poetry in the still of the night because I want to..
Want to do's: (Gosh I can waffle as well)
Hike through the Amazon just because..
Go to Antarctica ditto above..
Continue to lie on a blanket and watch the stars with my children and remember that I did it with my nan when I was little, she used to wake me up in the middle of the night, take me outside, and lie down on a blanket and just look above x
Remember always to tell my family and my friends that I love them as often as I can xx (Thats way past soppy but..)
And eat chocolate, watch Johnny Depp play Roux, hang the consequences.. because it feels good xx

Interesting question posed by Rosemary....but too late for me perhaps, yet I can give you my perspective!!!! I'm already old...almost 71, and we are only promised 3 score and ten(70)in the bible. If one believes that, I'm living on borrowed time as my mom use to put it. What can't I do now that I use to do? I don't think that there is anything important that I used to do that I can't do today, and perhaps even better!!! I am not able to do the same physical things such as running, jumping or lifting as I did, but I know how to ask for help, I can still get the job done in time. I can still love a man....wih more deep seated passion then in my youth, perhaps not as actively as before.... but it may be more more meaningful now because the passing of time makes me more aware of the need to be needed. If I can continue to be useful, loving, compassionate, responsible, mobile, independent and fairly financially secure....I think life is grand, the problems come when health, money or other variables reduce those important things, thus reducing us to a point where we are no longer viable beings! Perhaps we breathe life, but are no longer able to live and enjoy those things that made up life for us, and we 'NEED TO BE TAKEN CARE OF', life and living are no longer a part of us...we just begin to exist .....AS FAR AS I AM CONCERNED, I WOULD THEN WELCOME DEATH, RATHER THAN LIFE ON THOSE TERMS!!!! Being active, loving and visible are so very important..doig stuff is just nother challenge to ovecome. Youth has its share of problems that are not things thatI'd like o revisit just to regain years....I reallly like where I am right now. I LOVE BEING MY AGE IN MY CURRENT STATE OF HEALTH!

My comment lacked that I perfer to live amongst people of all ages rather than just one age. I enjoy reminiscing with those who shared my era, and I enjoy learning new things from young folks, thus extending my interest, and I like to think that perhaps my past experiences may be able to lighten some of today problems for some of those who are younger than I. I would not want to be farmed out to an old folks home!! I would like to live in my home, with some help, as long as possible, yet not to a point of being burden!!!

.block, n. (1) (shortened from mental block) A sort of organic stoprule or safety valve that prevents people from going crazy when they consider thought experiments exploiting combinatorial explosion.
'It's a good thing I had a block just then! I was getting a trifle dizzy when he started going on about storing all the possible descriptions of the universe in a book made out of tiny galaxies pretending they're electrons.'
n. (2) A small but obdurate obstacle preventing the smooth operation of a mechanism, a spanner in the works. Hence, mental block, an objection to functionalism obsessively maintained in the face of all manner of refutations, blandishments and appeals to common cause.

.brandt, v. To take a flexible and complex position and stun as by affixing a slogan description, with its own mark attached as a label.

.buber, v. To struggle in a morass of one's own making.
'After I defined the self as a relation that relates to itself relatingly, I bubered around for three pages.' Hence buber,

.bunged-up, adj. Full of unnecessary material.

Yes, Ap, you'll need 'some form of membership' to post here soon, I suspect. Of course, the word 'membership' is decidely incorrect. 'Subscriber' is more accurate. Members have a voice in the operation of an organization (which we do not have and are not entitled to, except as consumers choosing to pay [either directly or through clicks which generate revenue] or not to pay). But this site is the owner/administrator's private enterprise. God bless capitalism...I engage in a lot of it myself. But I would like to think that I disclose every aspect of a deal to my customers...

If it has not been deleted, see my post today {1 May, p.4} about Agloco.

So the site is converting into one that acquires and sells information, not just advertising. To demonstrate this, go through this exercise: look for a book on Amazon, and do not block Amazon's cookies. Then come back to this site, and you will find advertisements on the left side of the page corresponding to your search, because Amazon is picking up its cookies while you are here. (It might take a few hours, but it's there.)

But it's all 'Free.' If you measure your freedom only in dollars...

I will never believe that, ap, having taken out some very large, very rich opponents/competitors (both in business and in politics) with only energy and dedication.

I am reminded of a conversation between two generals during the Vietnam war. One said, 'How is some little guy with an AK-47 going to defeat a superpower with jet fighters?' The reply was full of wisdom...'How is a superpower ever going to defeat some little guy who is willing to go up against a jet fighter with an AK-47?'

chisholm, v. To make repeated small alterations in a definition or example.

church, n. A tightly constructed, heavily defended medieval place of worship, now primarily a tourist attraction
code, v. To render unintelligible by substituting a literal translation. Hence code, n. the product of coding.
'What he says about Aristotle sounds like code to me.'
