His name is Quimby. We were looking for a different name so that we wouldn't call him Bubba (our first dog).

Congrats on TOPPS.

I promise.. I am not laughing!! Definately different. Loved Bubba's toy collection.
Not as bad as our first dog named 'Twink' - short for 'Twinkletoes'.... one should never name a dog without practising yelling it at the top of their voice in the local park. If you don't feel like a real 'git' then it is probably safe!!

We joke that we should have called him Hoover, because of the way he gobbles down his food.

We've only gotten a couple of strange looks. But, then some of the names of pets in our neighborhood are, Figaro, Jersey, Midnight, Lightning, and Milo.

Ooh.. I fancy standing in the park and calling out to Figarooooooo...what fun!
Our last dog was called Pokey...yep..after the tv characters! We inherited her when her previous owner went o/s. Hubby always felt the need to explain our first dogs name.. does having a twink mean having a pee over your side of the world?

Well Becky, Outlook has finished downloading all the mail and so I had best get to bed or I will never get up in the morning for work! Nice sharing 'dog talk'...I have always been nuts about dogs [and other animals]. Ciao for now. Have a great day.

Not that I've heard. I think of someone who is light on their feet or a dancer. I do remember a cartoon of a dog that was sneaking up on a cat.

YEAH BECKY AND BEAN, you got us off that stuck page. Congrats Bean for the TOPPS, you done good!

yes, I had a dog a while back, we took a break in having cats after we lost 2 in close succession. Had to wait for another cat to find us. We had a dog, and she was a working kind of dog, needed a name that would carry and fluffy was not going to do it. I lived on a farm at the time, so I actually got out in the pasture and practiced calling names out loud till I found one that fit her, that had strong sounding constanants ( sp? the not vowels letters) I setteled on REVA. Made up word, going on sound alone, but when i called she wold come hehe.

Very smart dog, she learned the "get help , Lassie" trick. We walked the pastures ev ery morning, good exercise for the both of us, and pastures were up hill and down. At the end of every walk, as we came over the last hill and home was in sight, I would say, Lets go to the house, Reva, and she would take off , get to the door and knock for hubby to let her in.

It was fall and leaves collected in places on the pasture. I steped in a hole and took a nasty fall, knocked the wind from me. REva realized i was not walking behind her , turned and came at top spead back to me, figures she owuld run me over. Stopped on a dime, and stood licking me, I am sure she was saying, GET UP MOM! Well, I was still not getting up, thought I might need help and I told her, Lets go to the house Reva. Off she took, bounced on the door to get hubby's attention, but would NOT go into the house. kept running to edge of the porch and back to the door. Hubby noticed, huumm, I do not seee tricia, she is always in sight when Reva gets here, and he set off to find me. I had just recovered enough to be sitting up, still getting breath back, when Reva brought him straight to me. Smart dog!

That is my dog story for today, not I am off for and the post office.

See you later.

Morning all! So many people with lives, I could do a double serial post responding to everyone!

Mamacita - I've been known to post on the wrong page, though rarely on a previous day - if I don't see if first time through I rarely get time to go back...

MizT, love the Reva story! You have such good pet stories! We have a racing budgie, a talking staffie-cross, and an escape artist shepherd cross kelpie. To join the name discussion: Tiptap was named because he 'taps' his beak, Rocky has a flat face, and Shadow is actually Moon Shadow, as in 'I'm being followed by...'.

MizT, another cost cutting measure by businesses that I personally find a total pain - shortening the cord on electrical appliances...

And a sneaky one - does anyone else remember the days when a 'double' toilet roll had 1000 sheets and a regular roll had 500? Now some have as few as 220..

MAMA, We had REVA about 10 years ago. She is a breed that is a working dog, and needs a lot of exercise (reason for our walks and we also played fetch the ball, stick, but her favorite was a cola bottle, every afternoon). Does not play well with other dogs. So we gave her to a family that wanted a protection dog and had large acerage where they could take her out for exercise. She was a very loyal dog, very pack oriented and stayed with me all day every day, when noone was on the farm but me. I knew I was safe, with her around. If someone came to the door, I had to crate her before I could open the door, AFTER I knew who it was that is hehe. Noone would come inside if she was not in her crate. She would not hurt anyone, unless I gave the command, but most were afraid of her, her bark was enough to frighten them.

MizT Reva sounds a wonderful dog.
We have just let Callie out into the garden and unusually for her she started to bark (it is dark out) we couldn't see anything but heard the retreating tinkle of a cat bell. She is just learning what cats are,so far hasn't started to chase them, but lets us know they are around.

I really fancy a nice juicy fresh peach. The ones we get in the shops are normally rock hard, so unripe that you could break your teeth trying to bite into them.

Brenda, have you tried putting a few of those hard peaches in a brown paper bag with an apple? Usually hurries up ripening, and should improve those unripe peaches. Learned this from the county extension agent, back on the farm. Big storm brought down a huge limb loaded with unripe pears. I know I had almost a bushel of unripe pears and did not want to throw them away if there was anything to do with green pears. He suggested the brown bag and the apple. In my case, it took about 2 weeks, but I did get ripened pears.

Back again! Wow, 15 TOPPS, how greedy am I!

I've been to the skin doctor. Sob. One tiny BCC on my arm, which was frozen. One not so tiny BCC (about 3-4mm) about 2 mm under my eyebrow. I'll be going to a plastic surgeon to have that one removed... I think....

Suzy, if you have been told it needs removing them don't just think about it.
There are sometimes bonuses to living in a country where we don't get that much sunshine, trouble is when the sun does shine lots of people just lie out in it, not thinking what damage it can be doing to their skin. Recently we have been having adverts on tv warning about the dangers.

SUZY, I had a BCC removed last Feb, My doc told me at my follow up appointment, if I wanted to reduce the scaring, just rub the scar. Said the scar tissue was like clay, and very maleable while young, and just rubbing it would keep the scaring down. Mine is right in front of my ear, and althugh not visible to me without morrors, it is /was visible to others. My sister, hubby, everyone say WHAT SURGERY now, have to really look to see there is any scar at all.

Thought I would pass that along to you. Good luck, and I agree, get thee to the surgeon super speed!

OH, my surgery being where it was, gave me a one sided mini face lift. Seriously, wrinkles are lot less on that side. Maybe you will get the added bonus of a brow lift with yours??

Thinking of you and sending healing fairy dust your way!

Good Maen Sudoluland!

Coffee is ready, a bit late this morning. I over slept this morning from my usual, but barely got up in time to wake hubby at his requested wake up time. Huumm, how did it become my responsibility to get him up mornings?

Another restless night early on last night. I would like to get a full night's uninterupted sleep again. but at least I do get to sleep eventually! AND I have my computer and messages to keep me occupied in the middle of the night, it is not so lonely that way.

YES ROLANDA, I was up middle of the night again. I just turned off the MSN so I would not be tempted to talk. If I talk I do not get sleepy hehe.

Morning all!

Lol MizT - I asked if it would 'give me a lift' and he said no as the incision would be vertical - bummer! He also said I will have a nasty black eye for a while - hubby says I can tell everyone he beat me up.

I have had a total of 4 BCC and 1 SCC removed (I only count the ones that are biopsied, this new one will make 5). This is the second one that is in a place where I care about the scar. The other is along my jaw line. I've had 2 off my chest, one off my arm and one off my back.

Anyway, I've decided I'll get this one done by a plastic surgeon (after advice from hubby and brother) rather than my usual guy. That means I will have to wait longer, but....

Brenda, when I saw my doctor yesterday he apologised for running late. He had spent considerable time with a previous patient who had refused treatment. Apparently this keeps the doctor up at night - I'm guessing this patient had a suspected melanoma rather than just a BCC though.

Anecdote - yesterday I took d2 to netball. When I got out of the car I heard a young child crying in a car nearby. I didn't think anything of it, assuming a parent was there taking care of the problem. I later went back to my car to get something and the child was still crying. Blushing in case I got caught I peeked into the car, only to see a child less than 2 years old, strapped into a car seat and alone. Windows were open and it was cool rather than hot, but... I mentioned it to the parents I was with and one who is more bold than I went to look for the mother. The mother was annoyed that she had to get her son out of the car!!!!! I am still in shock....

And todays plans are.... It's going to be raining men at d2s school today so guess where I'm going to be?????

It's open day at the school - a BBQ, a chance to look through school books, talk to teachers, a jumble sale to raise money for the biggest morning tea, and men falling from the sky!

The school is next door to the army parachute training school and they are going to land at the school today..
