My father was the boss, and if he wasn't that, he wasn't being a 'man'. Even back then he was a bit of a throwback...

I'm on the coast of NSW Brenda. About 2 hours south of Sydney, and about 5km outside of the nearest town. Thought I was escaping the crime etc you find in the city. If you've been following my posts etc you'd know that hasn't worked out to be true...

My father let my mother think she was the 'boss' The only time I can remember that he 'put his foot down' and got his own way was when the chance came for my parents to buy the house they were living in. Mother didn't want to have a mortgage hanging around their necks. Dad insisted and they bought the house. Years later mother admitted that it was the best thing they had ever done as the rent for similar properties went up and up when their mortgage came down

We have found it to be difficult to manage our mortgage sometimes, but while rents are going up, so is our mortgage!!! Lol - interest rates are going up here. However, I don't regret buying when we did. We are less impacted than some with much larger mortgages.

Hubby has just come in and give me 'the look' for the 4th time. I guess I should go and keep him company. It is his only night home during the week after all....

We are fortunate that Richard and I don't have a mortgage on our house. Richard had just bought this house when his first wife died (actually she died on the day the house was finalised and never had a chance to live here) The mortgage Richard taken out was paid for outright as it was one with a life policy attached.

In the process of logging off I just saw a article on BBC News. Venezuelan TV has taken the Simpsons off morning TV because it is inappropriate and replaced it with.... wait for it... Baywatch. MUCH more appropriate for children.....

My mum always used to say it was always lovely to see and look after the grandchildren, but it was also very nice to see them go home. I haven't seen my (step) grandchildren in the last three years, it would be nice seeing them again

I thihk I like when chat room breaks and we have pages of posts on SA! I know I like the pages of posts at any rate.
Brenda, what an interesting life, and I think how fortunate you and hubby met and married! That was a LOT of commuting , 450 miles a weekend. How long ? Weeks? Months? Years? before you decided to combine households?
Now Suzy, not ignoring your life, but since we have chatted before I knew a lot about how you met and married your hubby.
I had heard Brenda mention step children before, but did not know you each brought step children who had lost both parents, into your relationshihp. Talk about a throughly blended family!
I have one step daughter, and she was 4 when I met her Dad, so she is mine! I helped raise her. She is always telling me, you know, it was you who taught me __________. Makes me feel good!

YEP, world clock says it is now 11:34 on Australia east coast, yeah, all is right in our world again.

In answer to your question Gail, te main reason I don't get to see my step grandchildren is mainly distance. Both step son and his wife work full time, they have their family up north too. Step sons mother is still around so I don't get much contact with the kids. They are 15 and 14 so they have a life of their own too. Well I hope they do, last time they were here their mother was smothering them. They weren't allowed to do anything themselves.Josh even admitted that he wouldn't know how to walk into town from where they lived, which is frightening as they only live a couple of miles from the town centre.

Hi MizT, I commuted most weekends for the first 8 months till we got married, even then we actually lived apart for another 10 months. The year we got married was Elaine (eldest daughter) was half way through the 2 years of important exams. We felt that we couldn't change her school at that time.
