CP, thank you for sharing the qult show photos. I love show and tell, no matter whose quilts are being shown. Now that quilt with the tiny leaves, oh my, I could not have appliqued even one of them that size! Lovely quilt art, and a truely talented artist too.

Although I liked the cockatooo or whatever bird that was, I am not as awed with paint on fabric that is called a quilt.

Technically, I suppose it is a quilt, but if one can paint, one can paint on a quilt fabric. I just know how much time goes into a pieced or applique quilt and it does not compare to how long it takes to paint on fabric.

Now, Maamcieta sent me a link to a very talented woman, who paints and pieces both. I can get excited about that, a unique combination of 2 art forms. Just my opinion, and would love to hear yours about painted "quilts". I must find that link and post it here, if Mama has not postedit already.

ANDREA, what pattern are you using for your daughters quilt? what kind of fabrics? Anything you are looking for that I might have in my stash?

I have bits and pieces of all kinds and colors of fabrics, many bought just cause I found at a great price and cause I liked it. No particular project in mind. If I have something you could use, would be happy to send it on.

CP - I loved "Peter's Dragon". Absolutely beautiful.

MizTricia, Laura is making a butterfly using batik fabrics. The colours are separated by black iron-on binding. Instead of hand stitching the binding on she will use a zig-zag stitch as there is enough work in the quilt already. She is hoping to put in on a black on black butterfly print (I had found one on our drive to Perth last year but can't remember which quilt shop it's from). Thanks for the offer of fabric but she has already cut out everything ready to go.

Andrea, that sounds like a lovely quilt! I have not seen black on black butterflies, most unusual, and would be perfect for the backing I think. That iorn on biase tape shoul make the job go much faster. I have seen it used for ' stained glass" quilts before and it is striking. I do not blame her, siz zag that biase tape right on there, it would take forever to hand stitch all of that!!

another quilt, another story.

I just posted 3 photos of a baby quilt I made several years ago. I had this fabric with a printed stripe of teddybears in trains and waggons. I wanted to use it for a border on a quilt. So I looked through my stash and found fabrics to go with the colors in the border. Then i looked on the internet for a block to use for the center. My favorite kinds of blocks to use are ones that are simple to make and look complicated. I found this block and several Electric Qult mockups of layouts of the block, and loved the simple method.

Pick 3 fabrics. First, make half square triangles of 2 of your fabrics. Cut squares of the fabrics, and sew together diagonally, 1/4 inch from the center diagonal line, twice, and then cut apart.

Next, cut squares the size of the resulting half square traingle blocks from step above. match up a solid square and a half square triangle square, and sew diagonally in the opposite direction. Cut apart. My block has a large red triangle ( half square triangle ) paired with a divided half sqaure triangle, one half blue and one half beige. If you look carefully at the enlargement photo, you can find the block in the corner.

When you have made enough blocks, then you play with the layout as these blocks can go together many ways. The one I found was not on any of the EQ mock ups from the designer, and when I sent her a photo, she at first could not even find the block in the layout.

I liked the woven look to this layout and sewed them together. Looks complicated from a simple block, my kind of piecing.

Deciding just where to place the main border to get 4 really good mitered images in the corner was the most difficult thing of this quilt. I could get 3 looking good and the fourth would not look right, it always landed with one half of the border in a white space. After consulting with quilting buddies, I decided to seam one of the border strips abut half way of the strip, in a white space between toys, to take out some fabric length, so the corner did not land in a white space on that corner. NOW, I cannot even find which side has the seam hehehe.

Quilting of the center is inthe ditch along the lines of the interwoven pattern. I did some meandering on the printed border, and followed the lines of the plaid on the blue one.

BTW, that binding is the same colors as the beige in the quilt, those 2 fabrics just photographed so differently.

Just dropped in to see what was going on...I don't quilt, but I do admire any type of hand work which adds beauty and stories to our world. Hi everyone! just found the forum and this thread. Great to see how many creative people are out in the world. I'm also a quilter, started about 9 years ago, and have managed to complete 9 quilts of various sizes, and only have 4 UFOs (I think!). I do, however have PLENTY of UFOs if we add all the smocking, and other sewing/embroideries that are lurking back there!

I not quilt yet..would love to have the time. I love fabrics... My way of getting excited is to visit a fabric shop or crafts exibit, museum, whatever you want to call it. My dream is to paint my own fabric and quilt it. I am just waiting for retirement to switch to full time exciting projects production. I collect fabric and treads...one day I will connect Them together.

Noone been around for a long time! Thought I would drop in and say I have put up some new quilt photos on my page. A very old UnFinished Object has returned to Work In Progress status!

I am working on a bluework embroidery flower blocks set in attic windows, with 6 borders sewn on! I have photos of some of the emboridery, and the center attic windows section.

this is a quilt as you go project.
First border is applique, embroidery, fabric paint vine and flowers. The second border will be made up of five strips sewn up and added at once, to give 2 blue bands on the background. I start to cut the strips as soon as I figure how many I gonna need!
