Just had a call from my sis
They are having trouble with her mil
she has dementia,
and had a break down yesterday,
the family will now need to sit down and discuss their options,
sis was asking what I would suggest,
I think they need respite,
but she wont take kindly to that....

Lizzy, I will be thinking of your sis. Went through dementia with my grandmother. My parents finally had to put her into a nursing home as there was no way to care for her at our house. It was not an easy choice and one I hope I am never faced with for my parents.

Liz, I sometimes think I am uncaring and a horrible person, but here is my opinion...

MIL can get better care with the right respite - trained workers and purpose built surroundings - with frequent visits which will be more loving because of reduced family stress levels. Basically, I don't think it matters what she would 'take kindly to' if her safety and the happiness of her family is at stake.

I agree Suzy. That solution is in the MIL's best interests. There is nothing uncaring about it.

No Suzy Im with you
for the families sanity,
they have no choice,
and as I work in the field I hope they listen to my advice,
put her into respite for say two weeks and give yourself some time to recharge your batteries and think about whats best for her,
and the family,
the husband gets very badly abused by her, (verbally)
and hes wearing thin.
his words were "she's still alive but just"

If thats not someone crying out for help.....

Plans for today,
Have to go to the bank this morning,
then this arvo going to a girlfriends house,
we plan a big walk, around a lake in Lilydale,
then going to get something healthy to take back to her place to cook up for dinner,
was thinking lamb backstraps, cooked on the BBQ, with a yoghurt dressing and a green salad,
yummo making me hungry thinking about it.

Good morning lovely SA6 people.
All these names and I still don't have one - I'm leaning toward sCintillating Cynthia but not sure as I'm anything but.
Liz - I agree - respite is the way to go. We had these problems with Dad when he was still home and Mum was looking after him. We'd get him into respite to give her a break. Until the day my gentle loving Dad, hit and kicked my mother and even she realised that he had to go into care. She immediately lapsed into dementia herself (TIA's Liz).

Suzy, I don't blame you for putting in the new names. Stick to the old ones. They are shorter and easier to type. Thanks for keeping the list updated. I am sure it is a lot of work and I appreciate it.
