Black-throated Blue Warbler Dendroica caerulescens

This bird is only about 4" long and hard to photograph. Here it shows well why it is named "Black-throated Blue Warbler.' It is on the ground under a bush in my yard, eating the tiny berries the bush has dropped.

Wonderful iridescent blue. Hope he finds that little red berry to the right.

How did you manage to get close enough to take the photo without scaring him away? Does he sing pretty in addition to being beautiful?

I stood for about 15 minutes in a stand of firebushes, trying to get a good photo of the small warblers. They we oblivious to me, and feasting on the bush's berries. One finally landed about 5 feet in front of me, and I quickly took a pic of it. A moment later, it had flown back up into the brush.
This image has been electronically cropped out of a larger photo to show the bird nearly 1 to 1.
