No Jenni, to be honest, it was his mate I was sweet on!
Long story made short: hubby used to share a house with his mate and the mate's sister. She and I were best friends so when I use to visit her, I would check out her brother!
Then, on my 18th b/day party, held at their house, future H 'tripped' me up 'by accident' and I fell in his arms and that was it. We knew straight away!!!

Very romantic Gail! I met hubby when I was a freshmen in college. Went to a party in his dorm with a guy friend and he saw me across the room and persued me. We started dating 3 months later and the rest is history!

Sounds similar Stella.

Hubby seemed to know before I did because he planned the whole trip/fall into his arms scenario!!!

I do believe in soul mates, do you?

I like your story too Stella.
I met mine at a nightclub - his friend had been chatting up my friend & I, then he said that his friend had just arrived & went to bring him over. When I saw him it was 'love at first sight' & the rest is history too

Had to wait the 6 years. 4 years of college and then 3 years of law school. He stayed at our college for grad school and I went to New York City for law school. Got married a few weeks after the Bar exam. I still don't know how I managed to plan the wedding at the same time. We also have our 25th anniv in '08!

Maybe you should report your own comment as abusive so it will get erased! Personally, I like your story Jenni! The dorm party is similar to a night club! And believe me, the drinks were flying. In those days the drinking age was 18.

Why in heavens name would you be embarrassed by it Jenni. The thing I picked up on was the love at first sight thing.
For us it wasn't, we knew each other as acquaintances but there certainly weren't any sparks before but from that night on there were fireworks!!!

Why did they change the drinking age Stella? In Oz it's still 18, as it is in Europe as well

The drinking age in Aus is 18 Stella. I think 21 is unrealistic.

Too many teens were getting killed. It was the leading cause of death in teenagers. Plus when they drink and drive, they end up killing others in the process as well.

The systems are different in all the states but fundamentally once you get your drivers licence you have to drive for a period of time with 'p' plates which have restrictions eg. no alcohol in the system.

But does it stop them drinking & driving, Stella?
I agree with Gail, it is a bit crazy to expect teenagers not to drink. I don't think the law could be changed here, there would be rioting

They are aslo now stamping out young drivers having powerful cars and a lot of states are introducing a 1 passenger only policy.

The kids were also drinking themselves to death. That's why alot of colleges have gotten rid of fraternities and sororities as well.

The voting age is 18! It doesn't stop them from drinking and driving, unfortunately, but the person who provided the alcohol, even if a parent, also gets in trouble.

Honestly, we were brought up to know the right thing to do generally, nowadays we need to have it all written down for us! Talk about the nanny state!
People should not have to be wrapped up in cottonwool.

Presumably they can also go to war at 18. Again, it seems a little harsh to me to stop 'adults' from being able to drink, even in in the name of slowing down alcohol abuse

I have told my kids not to drink because it can lead to dangerous situations nowadays. You never know who has put something into it. You hear about it all of the time. I also don't want them in situations that will impair their judgement so that they're involved with something that could ruin the rest of their lives with one stupid mistake. It won't kill them not to drink for a couple of years.

Just seems odd to say to someone at this age you are old enough to help in the choosing of the next leader but you're not old enough to make wise decisions about your own life.
