Oh dear. I told Gail that I was the first to experience this human/computer virus transfer since she was sick before me. Maybe it will become as well known as the bird flu.

Bit hard to push the weather your way, though the wind is ENE... I'll try...ooommpphhh... grunt...

Dino, don't push too hard. You might "break" something.

Rolanda, a lady down the street practices holistic medicine and told me to eat a clove of garlic everyday to ward off colds. Wouldn't hurt, but other people might avoid you.

Hmmm, Becky, garlic is also meant to keep the dogs flea-free. Would it work that way for me?

After I typed that, I started getting itchy. Maybe it's the power of suggestion or maybe I've got fleas.

Hello, Becky and Dino. It rained all day today for the second day. I don't dare complain, considering all the griping I did this summer, but it is getting to be an awful lot of a good thing. How are you? Glad to get the good nose report, Dino.

Hi Ruby, yesterday was beautiful here. In the high 60's and sunshine. Today was a little cooler and cloudy, but no rain.

Hi Ruby. With Becky now scratching this theory of human/computer transfer is becoming serious. hehehe. Gorgeous day here. I'm trying to rest but part of me feels I ought to be out in the garden.

It's just that I feel like a bored child. Isn't that silly?

I'm using my time looking for freeware maths progs for my school phobic grandson. His standard is junior secondary but needs reinforcement in multiplication and division. Any ideas?

Rube, know how you feel. There's days that I look for reasons to get out of the house, even going to the grocery.

Becky needs to scratch the power of suggestion. Glad you feel well enough to go out to the garden. It's lovely, by the way. I had a good look at your new photos last night. I particularly like the green blanket of foliage cascading over the wall.

Your problem with your problem search, Dino, is the word "free." There is a lot of material out there, but it isn't free.

There is a really good site for Aussie maths. I'm looking for things he can do quickly and easily. His school will send worksheets, but he has a mental block with them because he has missed so much school now. I've found a few flash games which is just the thing... doesn't need long attention span

Hehehe I've worked that one out Ruby. I'll ask my daughter if she'll subscribe to the Grey Olltwit site. There are educational games there specifically for ADHD kids. And the Aussie site needs a subscription, too.

Perhaps you know a teacher of the sixth or so grade level? She may be able to give you some old text or materials. Multiplication and division haven't really changed much over the years. He'll have tp deep-six the calculator, too.

Dino, try looking for sites that give math "tricks" that are easy to remember.
For example, you can tell if a number is divisible by three by adding all the numbers together until you're down to a single digit.
These might help him and don't require a lot of attention.

Maths tricks is a good idea. I used to teach junior secondary maths myself, (back in the early '70's would you believe!)but I don't have the books anymore. He spends a lot of time on the computer, so that seems to be a good place to get him involved. I'll be spending 2 days with him next week, so I can try things out then

wheeeee A lot of good sites when I googled 'maths tricks' including one which enables you to multiply any number up to 20x20. He'll think that's pretty cool rather than learning the tables!

Dino, if you want, I can ask my SIL if she has any books. She might even have some ideas that I could pass on. I'm not much help in the math department, my main subject was history.

Neat, Becky. Do you know "the rule of fives"? I don't, but I saw a guy use it once. It was like magic.

Dino, will do. Have a good walk. I'm sure Merlin will enjoy it.

Ruby, the only thing I remember about fives is that if a number ends in five or zero it's divisible by five, if you multiply it by an even number the last digit is a zero, and if you multiply it by an odd number the last digit is a 5.
