Just checking in after golf which gave me a step total of 13,284 steps today. Think I'll take a lighter day tomorrow. Dog had a day off. Steve says she slept all day.
After golf I had a Bowen treatment to aid detox. I'll let you know what happens!

WOW, Everybody seems to be hanging in there. This is great. My angel was with me today, the appointment was short enough that I got to go to the gym after all. I added a few more streches using free weights, since I was told I needed more strength exercises to balance my cardio, and Jazz and I got to walk a little more than a mile this morning. Calories for breakfast and lunch thus far are only 400. Keeping the water thing going too. Good day for me after the body rest of yesterday. I really feel good! I almost feel as if I could do a James Brown split.....good sense tells me forgetaboutit!!! I couldn't do one 50 years ago, so there's no hope, but still.....lol

Hey gang, may I offer one little bit of advice - don't treat your lifestyle change as a prison sentence. Relax a little and laugh a lot.

Here's a diet some of my colleagues are trying. I like it because its 3 days on and 4 days off. Haven't really started any regimin yet. Still sick, going to the doctor tomorrow. Glad to be a part of this. One thing I wanted to say, and I don't know if anyone has mentioned this 'cause I haven't read the commments, was don't forget to measure inches, as excercise strenghtens your muscles (which are more dense than fat). It may seem your not losing fast enough, but your firming up and losing inches. So judge progress by measurements as well. Will check comments later. Thanks for all the support. Here's the
diet. (next post)

Today is my 2nd weigh in. First week I lost 2kg and TODAY ........another 2.2kg = total of 4.2 kg. Just before Christmas I bought myself a pair of denim 3/4 pants - sooooo comfortable. Well yesterday -they threatened to fall down - so today...........I went and treated myself to a new pair in a size smaller ! Should I go and get another pair in ANOTHER size smaller? Do you have confidence in me?

I agree about the inches (cms)... they will count when things get tougher.
I have done my measurements but ..... mmmmmmmmm...... not sharing those till the end comparisons are needed.
a little hint
the tape measure was just long enough ....but already reducing inches(cms) too so all positive!
hope you feel better soon tricia.

Hi, one piece of advice I use from 'French women don't get fat' is not to eat without valuing what you are eating. I used to eat whilst watching tv, reading or (gasp)doing suduko and I would often be surprised at how much I had eaten, and how little I had enjoyed it. Now when I eat I try to concentrate on the food and simply enjoy a small portion. If my mind says I have had a lovely meal then I am much less likely to snack.

Tip of the Day for tomorrow. I used to adore Thousand Island Dressing and slapped it on everything. One day I decided to leave it off the salad tht I was eating and guess what - I could taste each ingredient of the salad. So, instead of every salad tasting of 'Mille Illie', I could taste the lettuce and the celery and the tomato and the cheese and they all had separate flavours. So now I don't have dressing on anything and it tastes just great and I eat much less of the 'fat pills' that come with salad dressing.

10 Minutes Here, 10 Minutes There

Didn't find the time to hit the gym today? Take heart. Here's another way to fulfill your promise to work out more this year.

Start your day with a 10-minute walk. Then grab three more 10-minute walking breaks throughout the day. Research shows that grabbing 10 minutes here and there could provide you with even better control over your blood pressure than if you'd slogged your way through a single 40-minute treadmill session.

The above tip came from a newsletter I receive via e-mail. It is sent out from a website called RealAge. Here is the address where you can find out more about it & take a test to determine your Real Age (sometimes older & sometimes younger than your actual years!)http://www.realage.com/ralong/entry5.aspx?cbr=NEXS6_P
I hope that gets you there. If not maybe you can just Google it. I have found lots of helpful hints from them.

Kathy, I had to smile when I saw your comment, since I had just read that same thing. I find a lot of good tips there too and I took the test. According to them, I'm only 62.3 years old and I can be even younger if I lose weight. For those who want to keep having birthdays, yet not grow older....try it! You may be as suprised as I, or learn how to improve. Win-win situation all around. I had another two mile walk this morning and I think I'll go again by myself this afternoon. Jazz can wait until tonight! BTW, for someone who will celebrate 71 years on this earth in May, hearing that my body is that of someone 62 years old feels pretty good Just think what it might have been if I had stopped smoking earlier and didn't have to take all of the meds that I use! Hey Col, another reason to stop smoking...not only will your health get better, but you will save money from the ciggies, and posibly on meds later in life. I wish you well, and when you are ready, You Will Be Able To Stop!!! To everyone else, keep on doing what you are doing....you are looking good!

LK a pound is a pound is a pound and as long as it is in the right direction that is fine.
I only did 8500 steps today that is 5000 less than yesterday and it seems the rain is back for at least 5 days.
I have started doing the twist in the bathroom before I body brush and shower. Now there is a sight to spur on my weight loss and body toning. I wish I'd thought to cover the mirror!!!

as Mo says, a pound is a pound ... if it comes off slowly it usually stays off and remember you have already lost quite a bit in the last few months ... it always slows down after a while. keep up the great work.

Col. I didn't know. My problem is that gradually my taste buds have adapted to salad without dressing and now I rather enjoy the different flavours. Thanks for the info though, I'll tuck it away for the future.

Of course I can (as long as I walk from Torquay to get there) lol.

I have a question that I think I know the answer to but I'd like some opinions.

Is seafood a healthy choice? (I'm NOT talking deep fried beer battered fish and chips here)

Leading on from my comment to Ian - I love to make a seafood side dish. It has seafood highlighter (cut very small),prawns, chopped shallots and chopped celery. I use the 99% fat free Thousand Island Dressing on it - yummy, filling side dish with steak and any BBQ. Hubby actually likes it in a sandwich (I'm yet to try this delicacy - don't know if I can!)

Col, my nutritionist once told me 'Go and enjoy Christmas, but don't let Christmas last a month.'' So I think the message is if you want a disgustingly nice counter lunch - go for it. But not every meal. I take a break every now and then, for instance, we are going to a local restaurant for lunch with friends tomorrow and I intent to have a sweet that I will enjoy - you know the kind of thing, but then I won't have any sweets for at least a month. (and I do love my sweets, but it's just not worth it).

Col, on seafood, it depends what kind of seafood you are talking about. My understanding is that fish is good for you, but prawns are low fat but high in cholesterol.

I envy you going to Anglesea. Say hello to the pub for me.

oooooof! I'm just back from a 90min bike ride with the seat too low - and a 16yo daughter too fast in front of me... Wonder how my b u m will feel in the morning! not to mention all those other bits n pieces. It's been a superb day here in Melbourne tho - 22 degrees C, blue sky, gentle breeze. Just gorgeous. I'd been thinking of going to the gym but it'd have been a crime to have been indoors.
