It seems that SA7 is getting old and slow. It is time for a new page. Welcome to SA8.

Talk about anything and everything, but place your comments in the right categories so that people on slow internet connections can still enjoy the site. Also, be nice to each other - you don't have to agree, but this is not the place for personal attacks. As Sir Paul McCartney said: 'I used to think anyone doing anything weird was weird. Now I know that it is the people that call others weird that are weird' (longer explanation). Enjoy!

That's how they spelled it Heidi! I actually corrected my spelling from the spelling you have. Just goes to show - don't trust ignorant idiots to know how to spell.

Off for the day. Have a good one everyone.

Who is "they"? "They" obviously cannot use a dictionary.

Heidi, the swastika is a symbol I hope I never see again, either. My family is of European descent and I lost a lot of family to that idiot.

GOOD MORNING....
I've had 3 cups of coffee and the brain still isn't in gear so there will be no scintillating chit chat from me today...[is there ever??]
Broni at least it is good weather for sorting boxes...
I really need to get something to block the gaps...I'm sitting in a draft here at the computer...not pleasant and so I'm out of here...

Good morning everyone!
I've been otherwise occupied for a while: lots of family tree stuff, plus ... just bought Sims 3... The carpet people haven't come back yet, though they say they will... Also, still haven't got my desk back together, so have to work on the kitchen table, not the most comfortable place.
Just skimmed through the news - lots going on!
Tami, I was shocked to find our old copies of Kipling's books had a swastika on the cover - I didn't know it was originally a good luck symbol. Not something you'd be happy to see nowadays.
My son was in a dance show last week and we went to the final performance. They were giving out awards - and he got one! (The encouragement award!) It's a week's internship with (I think) the Melbourne Ballet Company. He was fairly chuffed! Especially as he only took up dancing when he went to Uni. We were there being proud parents, but honestly, when I see him dance I'm just amazed at how good he looks. I don't even get nervous any more!

Heidi, I'm here, but only briefly.

Hubby's 2 cousins wanted to visit his Mom here, so have been with us for 2 days - leaving tomorrow afternoon. In addition to visiting her each day, we have done LOTS of chatting and have taken them around for some sightseeing. This morning we went to the Baha'i Temple in Wilmette, IL (one of 7 in the world). We have driven by MANY times, but it was our first time inside. It is beautiful, and we enjoyed learning about the religion.

We saw a swastika as a symbol of one of the seven major religions while we were at the Baha'i temple. (However, it was a mirror image.) I was amazed to see the discussion here tonight, so I consulted wikipedia at this address:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swastika

There is some interesting information there. One of hubby's cousins said that at least one group of Native Americans also used the symbol. It has historically been used by several religions without the connotations we have come to associate with it.

Yes Broni, today I actually did have a life!
Hubby and I went into the city to meet up with my aunt (one of Mum's younger sisters) and uncle who are staying in Melbourne for a little while, and were treated to a very nice Indian luncheon.
It was great to catch up with them and spend a couple of hours reminiscing.

I don't know Suzy...sounds like a leading question!

Hi to those on this page.
Brenda, how is Callie doing today?
Suzy, careful not to get indigestion!
Broni, hope today is a good day for you.
Julie, enjoy your time with your guests. I am coming to realise just how precious is time with family.
Heidi, I think you have done really well to go this long without an epidural. I was amazed last time when you were feeling so well that you put it off. Hope this one gives you a good length of time for relief.
Rolanda, sounds like you have your hands full a lot lately, China will come as a welcome relief!

Thanks for the update Dag.
Thanks, it was a better day today, have been off the meds for two nights now and woke up feeling a lot better..mind you the specialist never did return my call today.

Judy, I am disgusted with the carpet company. It has certainly made me rethink my flooring options. We would like to put wooden flooring into the big kitchen family room, but we will definitely be getting a few quotes and know to ask LOTS of questions before handing over the readies!
Bean, it can only get better... As of this minute, next week is a clear slate, so if you have a day free, pencil me in!
Tami, is it tomorrow you go to the camp prep thingy? I haven't been around here at the same time as you, but have always meant to tell you, your boys sound like lovely, young gentlemen. A credit to you and your husband.

Knowing specialists, he was probably taking an extended log weekend! Did you make the decision to go off the meds yourself? I hate it when the prescribed meds make you feel worse than you already do!

Nola, how did the lecture go?

Gail you can alway keep on top of the topics around here far better than me.
Yes it was my decision, no need to go into details but let's just say it was the right one. Log? snigger! I hope to wake up tomorrow feeling even better.
Hehe! Bean do you have webcam? Would love to see the mess you two could get into.

I am back, she is appeased! Not fully, mind you...

Well, now that you have left, I suppose I had better go fling food, not that I will be having any, but have to do it for the useless ones.

For those who have asked Callie is doing ok. I had to take her to the vet yesterday as her wound seemed to be filling up with fluid. The Vet (an Australian) felt around and said there wasn't a problem with the op site and that it could have been a reaction against the suture material or that Callie had bumped her head. The vet drained a couple of syringes full of the fluid (those with medical knowledge will know what it is called, I cannot remember) Indi is still being a good girl and not playing too roughly with Callie.
I whave to say we chose well when we decided to adopt Indi, she is a loving dog with only one or two faults... she pulls like a steam train when on the lead and she cannot be let off the lead as she runs miles away. We are working on recall but have to use a long line all the time.

Broni pleased you are feeling better after stopping using your meds.
Recently D#2 had a really bad cough which didn't want to go away. She went to the Drs who saw on her notes that she had had asthma when she was a small child (before I knew her) so straight away he put her back onto an inhaler. This, in my opinion, made the coughing worse. I despair at Drs who just assume that a cough is the result of asthma.

Broni, glad you are feeling better. Do you think the specialist will wait until you pay a bunch of money to go to his office? Sounds typical to me.

Brenda, I don't like the sound of Callie's fluid. I hope it wasn't painful at least.

It sounds like d2s daughter took the easy way out. A second opinion sounds like it's on the way.

Indi sounds wonderful. Some people love our dogs, others find them terrifying.

Suzy I was a bit worried about the fluid but according to the vet is is ok, exactly what they would expect if she had bumped her head and will be reabsorbed, I suppose it is a bit like the swelling we get when we have a big bump. Anyway I go back to the vet with her on Friday to get the stitches out.
Fortunately this is all being paid for by the insurance last I heard the bill was £700 and counting.

Don't think Callie is in any pain at all, she wants to play all the time and can't understand when we stop her trying to start a play session with Indi. Also she doesn't like being on the lead all the time. On the plus side her hair is starting to grow back so her head doesn't look quite so silly.
