Brenda, glad Callie seems to be doing better!

Julie, sorry to hear about your hubby's aunt. What a life she must of had! Your hubby comes from strong stock. His mom almost 95 and his aunt who was 96! That's pretty amazing!

Broni, hope you're feeling better and your solution helps!

The swastika is an ancient symbol. It's a shame that the nazis used it and destroyed the perception of it for everyone.

I have to pick up Ian from school. Even though he graduated, they still have exams to complete. Plus, all the kids are home for now AND sick, so no rest for the weary!

No Stella, the boat had to wait, few health issues but I now have control again so all is good.
Just remember you cannot help anyone if you are not OK, so make sure you are OK.
Gotta go now, so be kind to you!

Good Maen Sudokuland. I thought I posted earlier, guess it went to cyber space. Operator error most likely.

Grouchy Grump has left the building. I slept very well last night, no pain meds and that is always a good sign. A good natural sleep beats the socks off the drug induced kind.

Stella, you stated it well, an ancient symbol, which is forever tainted. A story that made the news here a few years ago. A young Native American male, wore a T-shirt to school that had many symbols of his religion. Among them were the reverse swastika, the much older symbol used by his people for hundreds of years. The school made him remove the T shirt as "offensive", without listening to him about the difference (reversed) and it's historical and religious meaning to him.

STELLA,I hope all the kiddies recover soon
BRONI, wishing you well and soon back sailing that boat again.
SUZY, did we ever hear about your day?
BRENDA, I am glad Callie is doing so well and that Indi is understanding of her limitations now.
ROLANDA, what crock pot casserole did you make?
JUDY, every parent deserves as many proud parent moments as can be fitted into our lives. It is our only reward for the care and feeding of the young.
GAIL, do they ever grow out of the need for Mommie stuff?
BEAN AND GAIL, out together, and unchaperoned? Watch out Australia!
JULIE, your tour of the temple sounds very interesting.
BEAN, how is the box sorting going?
I just made a carrot spice cake, with dates, and it is yummy for brunch. I think I need another cup of coffee with this. My house smells so good at the moment. Off to find my coffee, CYA later.

ROLANDA, how could you defile chocolate with disgusting beets? If I ever make it down there for a visit, and you cook up this sweet, do not tell me it has beets, cannot get those things past my lips, YUCK.

Hello all, thought I would just pop in for a moment, hope everyone is doing well. And MizTricia I agree with you about parents, we do deserve proud parent moments. I had a special one the other day when we were at the high school graduation party for the daugther of good friends of ours. The daugther graduated from a private ($$$$) Catholic all girls school in our area, my youngest daugther (who will graduate next year) wanted so badly to go the same school (tears, tantrums, the whole nine yards when she was in eighth grade!). My husband and I asked her to please try the public high school first, well she turned to us and said that she was so happy that she did. I knew she liked the school she goes to, but it was good to hear that from her. I know that we do what we need to do for our children, regardless sometimes of what they want, but it is good when they realize that the choices we make for them are the right ones. Oh, now there I go rambling on. Hope you all don't mind too much!

Take care!
Aimee :)

AIMEE, good to see you posting here and a big HELLO this morning. Rambling, do we mind rambling? Not that you were, but nope, rambling is not a crime here. Usually we enjoy the longer, interesting posts people share with us.

Nice that your daughter sees that your choice of schools for her was the right one for her. It is a proud moment when they do let us know they agree.

Do drop back in whenever you can, it is nice to have another Pennsylvania resident drop in for a chat.

MizTricia, thanks right back for the kind words, being the daughter of teens (19 & 17) those proud moments are sometimes far between at this stage of our relationship, although I must say that my relationship with my oldest daughter has changed for the better since she went away to college, I think we both appreciate each other much more and I have really loved watching her grow and mature this past year - her first year of college (Penn State University) - lucky for us she is not too far away, only about 2.5 hours, and my husband's sister and husband live in the same town as the school so we go up to visit quite often, especially during football season, now I need to concentrate on getting her little sister on the right track, she is going to be a senior next year and is not even thinking about life after high school, or at least if she is she is not sharing it with me or Mark (my hubbie), oh well, I just keep plugging away!

Aimee... MizT is correct. This is the perfect place to talk on about the things that are important to us. It sounds like you have a couple of great daughters there.

I agree MizT. Defiling chocolate with beet???!!!! How could that cross anyones mind????

If I remember correctly, the Native American good luck symbol was a reversed swastika. Or the Nazi swastika was a reversed Native American good luck symbol.

AIMEE, good to have you on board. Daytime for us topsiders can be slow on the board, not as many of us, or not as talkative a bunch here then, while the Aussies are asleep. Come join us any time. Tellus a bit about your self, you obviously have at least one school age daughter, does she have siblings? Do you work outside the home, as if managing a home and children was not a full time job.

Yes, Heidi, I think we have been saying the Native American Symbol is a reverse or mirror image of the swastika, or visa versa. Hard to remember which way it should be pointing though, isn't it? Many of the Native American Symbols I saw were curved lines at the outside, more like a cross in a circle with 4 small segments of the circle missing. Now that is different enough to never be confused, at least in my mind.

TAMI, hope you are having a good day at camp today.

HI to Bobbie, hope you are reading. Drop in to say hello again soon, please.

The Nazis used it pointing clockwise. The Native American symbol could be used either way, but generally counterclockwise. They also had stylized versions like you described.

I find it appalling that an ancient symbol for good was utilized as the ultimate symbol of hatred.

Morning all!

Aimee, proud mommy moments are especially welcome here! I love hearing about proud mummy moments!

MizT, so glad you finally got a good night's sleep.

Stella, ALL of them sick??? That would make for a grumpy household. It's a shame Ian is sick for his exams.

Highlights of my day....

12 year olds - the teacher and I were talking near the smiling devil. The smiling devil says 'what's that high pitched noise?'

12 year olds - give me that and sit down to do your work. 'That' sails over my head.

17 year olds - a soccer game down the side of the room, well, a very brief soccer game as the ball was quickly put on my desk

Aimee, welcome to SA8. We all love to hear proud mommy stories and we are good listeners when you need to let loose.
Gail, thank you so much for the compliment. I think my boys are pretty good, I just have to remember they are boys and not perfect. Hubby and I are trying our best to teach them manners and to be productive citizens. Not an easy task.

Today (Tuesday) was my first day at camp. The other counselors working in my group seem good. One of them has been working there for a few years, the other 2 are new. I like the mix. Old blood for stability and new blood to bring in new ideas (I hope).
