Not exactly. We went out to visit his cousin (8 miles/12.9 KM), and stopped at a Chinese take out place afterwards. We actually got VERY lucky. The restaurant was supposed to close at 9 pm. We got there at 9:30. They were just about to lock up, and let us in for a take out order. There are some advantages to living near a small town.

We've had a long day today. Well, a long week, actually. Hubby's 96-year-old aunt died suddenly Tuesday. He had several appointments the next day, then took an evening flight to the nearest city, rented a car and drove 1 1/2 hours to get there, as his uncle told him the funeral was the following day. Got to the motel around 2 a.m., slept a little, then got up to go help his aunt and uncle (youngest sister of the aunt who died). Then he was informed the funeral was NOT the next day, but the following. His return flight was already scheduled for 6 a.m. the following day, which ended up being the morning of the funeral. So, scrambling to try to reschedule flight/worry about additional charges for changing/being told by car rental company that they didn't have a car for the extra day/etc. He arrived home EARLY Sat. morning & we started scrambling to clean house, as 2 out-of-state cousins decided to come here to see his 94 1/2 year old Mom on their way home. They arrived this morning, and we spent half the day with his mom, plus time driving around showing them things, plus chatting until 7:30, out to dinner, home about 9:30, then start the things we would have done today. More sightseeing and another visit to his mom tomorrow, then they leave the next morning.
All that in a nutshell means little time to spend here or on regular chores, so catching up to do later in the week. I hope to see you all and read comments in the next few days!
Take care, one and all! If you or a loved one is uwell, I wish you a speedy recovery and a wonderful day tomorrow!

96 is a ripe old age. And unexpected can mean relatively heathy. I wouldn't mind going unexpectedly at 96. It sounds like she had a life worth celebrating instead of mourning.

Broni, wow - half brother and sister! That's exciting. I hope they get to know their extended family. I don't have an ipod because I can't work it out. The kids and hubby work theirs out without me!

Tami, it sounds like 'what Mitchell can do' is very valuable and worthwhile.
I had told the class that my throat was sore from the athletics carnival the day before - and it was! The boys in particular believed they were immortal and didn't care how close to the rear end of a javelin they got! One group that continued to move forward as soon as I turned my back stopped when I told them that they'd got me in trouble with another teacher - which they had.

Good Maen Sudokuland. Last night was as restless as the night before was refreshing. I guess you cannot win them all.
Hubby has to go out of town. He told me dates, and will be gone my birthday. I told him that was totally unacceptable. So far, he has not changed the dates.
Julie, that was a stressful time for hubby, all the changes and rescheduling of flights. I hope you two have a much better upcoming week.
Suzy, I love hearing about your days in the school room. Did you manage your day supervising the athletics without getting sunburned?
Broni, did you enjoy your visit with friends? Being housebound if not fun. Hope you get better and better, soonest.

I need coffee, about a pot of it might do. there is enough for you to have a cup with me. Might take mine out on the porch, before it gets hot for the day. Check out the flowers, feed the outside cat, putter around a bit. I shall return.

Good morning all.
Tricia, my first pot is brewing so I will raise my cup and join you in a few minutes.
Julie, my sympathies to you and your husband. 96 is a long life and definitely worth celebrating.
Suzy, you will become much more comfortable soon. The kids will behave better (usually) if you are honest with them. Telling them you got in trouble made them feel bad, so they wanted to make up for it. One year we switched grades for a few days so the kids could "try out" the next grade. I was teaching 7th the time, so I had 6th grade for a week, teaching them 7th. One morning I had a killer headache and nothing was taking it away. I told the class. It was funny, a few minutes later a boy started talking and most of the class went shhhh! teacher has a headache. It made me feel a lot better.

Nola, I work in a very interesting school. It is an inner-city school with most of my students at the poverty level. It can be hard to be a teacher there, but also rewarding. I have had 13 year olds who are pregnant. One came to school with an ankle bracelet monitor, courtesy of the local jail. But, we are an "A" rated school. We were also named one of 7 national urban schools of excellence. It is a great feather in our cap.

Broni - it's hard to tell what will happen with the 'new' family. You haven't said what you would like to happen. Thanks to your comment yesterday, I played with Ebob's ipod last night - it has Klondike on it! Soooo tiny I could barely see it...

MizT, did hubby forget it was your birthday in tha time? I hope he changes it. I would hate for hubby to be away for mine.
It's funny you mention sunburn. It rained for several days before and after the athletics carnival, but the day of the carnival was sunny and clear. I didn't know what I was going to be doing until I got to school. It was cold so I was all rugged up with long sleeves, and had put sunscreen on, but forgot my hat. My face got a very mild burn. There were no breaks to replace the sunscreen.

Good morning Nola. What are you up to today? Did you get to have a long weekend?
Tami, the school I am at also has a lot of children at the poverty line. But it also has a lot who aren't. It even attracts talented students due to it's success at an event called the Rock Eisteddfod.
I had a student who didn't know who Helen Keller was other than a line in a song - shut your lips, do the Helen Keller and move your hips. She said she was a dumb spastic. She also was drawing swazstikas without knowing their origin.

OMG - I just did a search to see if I was spelling swazsticka correctly. There was a site with icons and backgrounds! I was stunned and went there to see what they had. It looks like they have removed them! A win for sanity!
