No one about for a long time. The party for MIL went very well and the food was lovely. Laura had her lobster but Sharon ate most of it and Laura ate a lot of the calamari that Sharon had ordered(we knew that would happen!)
I have put a photo on my page of Laura in her new party dress with her G'grandmother.
Tricia, I hope you are soon better. Guess you are in quite a bit of pain.
Julie, thanks for the wonderful update!

Good morning all! Ian's graduation was very nice yesterday and the antibiotics seem to be working. Bryana on the other hand has gotten much sicker and couldn't go to the graduation. After the graduation, Meghan went to visit her friends who stayed in Boston for the summer because another one is 21. Brendan couldn't go to the graduation because he had to work at the Summer Jam concert at SPAC. Ian has a soccer game today that he'll go to to play some. (he already missed the majority of the season.)

Good Maen Sudokuland, It is sunny and bright today, not a cloud in sight. We are in for another very warm almost summer day.
I had a lovely night's sleep and woke much less grouchy and ouchie today. I am hoping it lasts the day.
STELLA, Congratulations to Ian on his graduation. I am glad he is improving. Boy it seems hard to get all your children at the same place at the same time for anything, they are all so involved in so much.
Hello to June, Julie and Suzy, hope your day is going well.
HI to BOBBIE too and nice to chat with you and TAMI on MSN for a bit yesterday. Bobbi, did your horse win? I do hope you and TAMI can make the Florida meet up, sorry I cannot make it.
HEIDI, I heard on news last night that Mine the Bird came in third. I did not catch who was second.

If Mine That Bird was third, then Dunkirk was second. The inquiry was about Dunkirk interfering with Charitable Man down the stretch. Charitable Man finished fourth. If Dunkirk had been disqualified for interference, Mine That Bird would have been second, Charitable Man third and Dunkirk fourth. I, personally, didn't think Dunkirk caused enough interference to warrant a disqualification. The Stewards obviously agreed.

Good morning everyone.
Julie, enjoyed your update. As to marking papers, I mark them in what ever color I happen to find. I have used red, blue, green purple, and even a highlighter if that is all that is handy.
Suzy, grading will get easier. Like Julie said, when you are the teacher, you will have a better understanding of what the kids should have learned. It is hard to grade for someone else. I use local teen's to grade multiple choice parts. I grade everything else. If they grade for me, I can sign off for volunteer hours which they need to graduate. Helping a teacher counts as volunteering.

Very smart, Tami. Plus it can make the grading process more pleasant for you, and the teens learn a bit from a teacher's perspective.

TAMI, I was introduced to the students' volunteering concept through my grandsons in CT. I have not heard of it here. I think it is a good idea, getting teens to volunteer, perhaps it will carry over into adulthood. I am glad it is also in your area. What age must they volunteer? Has Mitchell chosen an area of interest for his service yet? Could he help his Mom grade papers for credit?

My Grandson #2, a junior in High school, just received the Wheelock College Book Award which is given to one Junior "for demonstrating a strong commitment to working with and improving the lives of children and their families." His volunteer work is with Autistic children in kindergarten and first grade. Did I say this before?

Morning all!
MizT, I'm impressed by your grandson! One of my students is autistic and the best I've been able to do for him is make sure he got a chance to throw a javelin. He wouldn't go up with the other boys. Volunteering means more opportunites for the children. He deserves his award.

I think the closest a formal program comes here is the opportunity to choose community service for sport. A couple of Ebob's friends do that.

I marked the first set of papers in red pen, and the second set in pencil. From my class room observations, kids are mostly a lot tougher than they're given credit for. Though I was told that a girl I had to call on for talking while I was talking told her friends that she got in trouble.

Stella what a balancing act you have with your children. I will try not to complain ever again about balancing my two - who go to the same school and have one sport in common.

I'm glad Ian is feeling better. I hope Bryana picks up soon.

SUZY, GS#2 is really good with the autistic children. He has been hired by parents of 2 different children to be a tutor/babysitter because he got along with them so well in the school. He is looking toward an education in the child advocacy or special education field.
This all started when he went with his mom to his brother's classes with a speech pathologist, and they saw how very naturally he could work with his brother.

Where has everyone been today? kind of quite while the DUGs were sleeping.

Same here, too much like summer weather for me. How are all the animals today? How much has Survivor grown? When will he be weaned off his bucket of milk?

Survivor has grown pretty well. Sideways. He's a lot chunkier than he was. I've cut him back to one bucket of milk a day.... a full gallon. He also has all the alfalfa hay he can eat and is getting some good pelleted grain every day, too.

Yep MizT, GS#2 is a very special person.

I feel like I am back in time here, let alone when I go to work.
The knitting of the second cushion cover is coming along fine though.

Tricia, Mitchell can help me grade papers but not for volunteer hours. That is just helping mommy. He volunteers at the temple, he tutors younger (and older) kids who needs extra help. He doesn't do any one thing. He does what he can.
Suzy, don't worry about the girl. Some kids are more sensitive than other. You can always put it back on you. Instead of "stop talking" rephrase it about you. "do you mind not talking, it makes it hard for me to remember what I was talking about." Put the blame on you, not the student, it works with a lot of them.
Viv, the madeira cake sounds good. Can you save me a piece?

Hello SA8!
What a busy morning I have had, my cousin Maz came over for morning tea for her birthday as she has to work this afternoon. Got a call from BIL and he asked if I was sitting down, apparently he and JD have a half brother and sister. Then Brea, JD's daughter phoned she was painting window sills and was in tears missing her Dad, told her he was there with her and it was about time she poured herself a wine, he would like that.
Did not take my meds last night, still feeling off colour but a few of the other side effects have not surfaced today, don't think I will take them tonight but will phone the specialist tomorrow (today being a public holiday)
Hope you are all well.
