Vegemite is one of those Aussie delicacies I could forgo. However, I would like to try Tim Tams.

Evening topsiders/Afternoon DUGs
Was wondering if anyone lives near Viv - close enough to call and see how her procedure went?
Been thinking of her and wanting to know she's come through OK.
Just putting that out there in case any of our DUGs are in her hood. Thanks!

You'll have to eat all kinds of new and different things, Rene. That's part of the fun of travel.

Up until 2 years ago, the dogs in the shelter here were shot. FINALLY, a state law was passed banning that. Now they have to be euthanized humanely, if not claimed or adopted in a week. With Rescue Groups, they come to us instead of euthanasia, but only if they are purebred. Our leader has fudged some, telling the shelter people that some collie mixes are actually poor quality purebreds, so they can be saved as well.

Hi Heidi - one of my best friends here in Grass Valley has a non-profit called "Sammies Friends"
She provides medical care for the shelter animals and animals belonging to people in our area who cannot afford the treatment the animals need. She also worked tirelessly for 6 years with our "hillbilly" shelter to organize volunteers and bring community awareness to the needs of the shelter. She has personally seen to the dogs and cats at the shelter to insure they are saved (unless a 'special' case). She has reduced the euthanasia rate at our shelter to 4%.
We are very lucky to have her and several other organizations in our area to care for our furry friends.

It's too bad they have to kill any animals in any manner. They certainly don't deserve it.

Hey Rena - dinner was yummy (and easy! that was the best part!)
Viv lives in Pt Macquarie...but I don't have any idea where that is or how near it is to anyone down under.

Anyway, once I started to eat the rice cakes, two was not enough, so two more (with peanut butter) and two more (with jam, thinly spread) and then a bowl of nuts to nibble. Feel MUCH better after that

I just googled Pt Macquarie and it looks like it's smack dab in the middle between Sydney and Brisbane...not close to either by a long shot, I think!

Vici, Pt. Macquarie is near Brisbane, where Broni lives (I think). I've learned an awful lot of Australian geography in the past year.

rena - I have google earth - was just going along the streets of Pt Macquarie, but that still doesn't let me know who could contact her. She was in surgery this a.m. and I don't think we'll find her on Easy today. Brisbane is quite a ways away (as far as I could see from the satelite view), but probably not so far that Broni might be able to call Viv's house.

Hi Broni - that's great! I'm gonna be all panicky like this in Sept. when MzT goes in for surgery! I could get her phone number before that, though and call Al...make sure he's taking care of her!
