Red-shouldered Hawk Dive-bombs Black-crowned Night Heron
The red-shouldered hawk (right) had just taken a dive-bomb run at the black-crowned night heron (left, wings upraised). They made so much noise I nearly jumped out of my skin! The hawk did not like having the heron feeding in its home territory. Oct 8, 2009

I had been taking pics of the hawk for some time, it was perched on the fence behind my next-door neighbors house. Suddenly, it dive-bombed the heron - which I had not yet noticed - and continued on to the other side of Old Jupiter Creek, where it came to rest in a tree.
A second hawk came from upstream and also dive bombed the night heron. I suspected the first hawk would make a second pass and come back.
I held the button halfway down, making the camera focus on the heron, awaiting the return of the hawk. Right on cue, the bird attacked the heron, and I clicked the shutter. Wow!
