My understanding was that the idea of a unique solution puts a lower limit on the number of clues as well as their configuration in the original puzzle. If we allow that there may be more than one solution, could we not construct puzzles with fewer clues, and expect others to solve them? And, if we knew there were more than one solution, would it be as much fun?
