Time for dinner here, and mary, thanks for the info on yorkshire pudding. It seems it came about much like our 'dressing' which uses the pan drippings and cornbread and stale bread and spices and such to make a tasty filler dish to stretch a meal.

Sunday meals at our house depends on which week it is! If it is the Sunday after shopping(fortnightly), we usually have a roast in the evening or a barbie if its summer. The second Sunday is a light meal, mainly because there's nothing left to eat! Usually quiche or nachoes etc.

When we have a roast, the trimmins depend on what the meat is. With Roast Pork we have sugar potatoes, steamed carrots and beans, apple sauce and sauteed cabbage. Beef is roast veg, yorkshires, peas and gravy. Lamb is also roast veg, usually potato, kumara, parsnip, onoins and carrots plus a green veg. Chicken can vary, either roast potatoes or potato bake and steamed veg. If I am catering for a crowd, the roast is accompanied by baked potatoes and salad. Trust me, it works well.

No, H and I shop on Saturdays. We do it together because its the only way we get to go out! We like to go down to the 'burbs to do our meat shopping at a wholesale butcher, a lot cheaper and generally very good quality.

Roast veg is put in the pan with the meat and roasted alongside or in another tray with drippings for flavour.

Never mind about the CP, was just having a lark! The veg can vary, usually includes some or all: potato, sweet potato, parsnip, pumpking, parsnip, onoin and carrot.

The 'burbs are only about twenty minutes away. our town has just about everything on a very small scale which jacks up the price but always handy in an emergency. We have a butcher, stupormarket chemist and bakery. We do our main food shop in the next town which is only about 5-10 minutes away so the frozen lasts! Our veggie shopping we like to do at the grocer in the same town, I always think the veg is better from a grocer that from the stupormarket.

I never liked them as a kid, Mum would always put parsnip in stews and I would pick it out. She would also try to slip other things in there too like swede (yuk) and turnips(double yuk) so there would be a heck of a lot of stuff still on my plate! The reason I roast parsnip is because H asked for it and now I don't mind it at all. When you roast it, it has a sweet sort of flavour.
