My life in pictures today. Drink the coffee, wake up, then drag around hoses to water the grass again! It is no longer green, must save the grass, must save the grass.

I have a grass on front lawn called Cnetipede. It is usually hard to get to grow from seed and kind of expensive to buy enough seed. About 3 years ago, I went to the feed and seed store to buy winter rye grass for my front yard. you over sed to keep something green in the winter. Well, it never came up and i was most disapointed. Next spring, I started seeing new green sprigs, but did not pay it much attention. Second year, lots of green and i cold tell, a new kind of grass. A friend came by and told Al, You have a very nice stand of centipede, when did you plant that! So, it seems the feed and seed gave me the wrong seed, I planted it the wrong time of year, did nothing to help it grow and still it successfully sprouted and covered my front yard. Once I knew what it ws, I googled centipede and found out I have ideal conditions for it! Likes acid soil, check, so acid not a lot will grow. does not like highly fertil soil, check, this is so Un fertalized it is unbelievable. Will withstand drought, yep, it is getting a workout this year. Greens up nicely with a small application of water. YEP, when I have watered it this year, can tell just where the water has reached when I go back to move sprinkler, it greens up that fast, one hour of water and green! so I am trying to save it, when it really begins to look bad, I give it a little drink again. today is the day. It is cloudy and not windy, and more humid, chance of rain, a good day to water i think. MAYBe it will attract a passing cloud? I can only hope!

Ruby, I was here yesterday, only day I missed was Sunday! We were a tad busy on Sunday and then I got to reading a book after our guests left. As my Dad or hubby both said, I have my head stuck in a book. I am not sure what it was about my reading that bothered (bothers) them so much, you know? Not giving them my undivided attention? Would any males happening by care to enlighten me on this, if you have insight?

That was not a question.

So you have centipede grass. The first year it sleeps, the second year it creeps, and the third year it leaps. It also grows particularly well over walkways and driveways. This can be a pain, but it has benefits. The best way to establish centipede is to sprig or plug it. Edging your walk and drive will provide you with endless sprigs. Even if your sprig has no roots, feel for the root shoot and make sure it gets underground. If you want it to turn a darker shade of green, put iron on it. (Miracid works, too.) Keep it mowed at 2-3 inches. In August it will send up seed heads. Resist the urge to let it go to seed. You will get much more fill from the established runners that have not set seed than from those that have, and this effect lasts for more than one year. Seeds are not mature until the end of October. Keep and eye out for other lawns with centipede as a source of sprigs, or you can buy sod from a sod farm.(Cut it up into 2-inch plugs.) If a bald spot develops, put sand on it and water. Centipede loves, loves, loves aeriation.

We live in the country in the woods and usually it stays pretty cool in the house, but when it gets hot like this, it is hard to cool it down in the evening. They are predicting a chance of a thunderstorm this afternoon and storms all day tomorrow.

Got your note on my page. Thanks. It's been hard with my mom since my dad died last July. He was the one who took care of her and brought her to various appointments and therapy.

My mom is on Long Island, about a 4 hour drive. I spent last August with her then had to get back for the kids going to school. During the winter, I went down during the week and came back on weekends.

We don't have central air. Just a unit in the den which overlooks the livingroom. It cools the whole house.

My brother goes out there on Sunday afternoon and Wednesdays. He is a priest in a parish in Brooklyn. He can only go out when he's not on duty, but he helps her alot.

We have an attic fan. Usually it cools the house down in about 15 minutes. Last night we ran it most of the night! It was pleasant though!

I went there in the winter because she has Osteoporosis and she fell and shattered her wrist and shoulder. She needed someone with her during the week and the rest of my family took turns on the weekends. I have a big family.

She is a very lucky lady! My sister lives in Chicago and my brother lives in Sweden! My sister has younger children, so it is harder for her to leave. My husband retired last year, so he is home most of the time.

I have never been over there, but I would like to go. My brother says it is beautiful. My parents went over about 5 or 6 years ago and loved it. He also says it is a great place to raise children!

It was nice talking to you, Stella. I must go. Thanks for visiting me on my page. Have a great day! I'll keep your mom in my prayers!
