She is doing really good. I'm hoping she can finish two grades this year. If it continues to be as easy for her as it has been, she should be able to manage that.

She has her moments. We started in a lower grade than she should be. The last program, through the school district here, was sadly lacking in several areas.

Is there a group outside of the school that can help? Maybe the local university has a few resources.

She's not with a school any more. I decided to try a curriculum from the States. My friend from WA was using it with her daughter. I liked the math and language arts. I felt it was better than the Canadian that we were doing. There is no university close to us.

Here in Ohio, they send in tutors to check on the student's progress. Was thinking that Canada did the same and that the tutor might give you a few ideas.

When we were with the school, I kept asking for help and never got any. I gave up on them. I do have some things I need to check into. I keep forgetting in the daytime and probably wouldn't get hold of anyone in the evening.

Do you have a school board? If you do, go to one of their meetings and make a little noise. Reporters attend ours and the board will probably take some action.

We do have a school board office in Grand Forks but the superintendent was the principal of the school my sons attended. I don't like him and don't want to have anything to do with him.

Our school board members here are elected and can't be employees of the school. They decide the curriculum within the state's guidelines and how money is spent.

We had some excitement here last night. I took the dogs out and Max treed a bear and her cub. He wouldn't come in and I had to get gumball and hubby to get him to come in. I just took them out, with Max on a leash, and the bear is back. They keep getting into the garbage. We need one of those bear proof containers like they have at the big public beach.

And I thought our run in with the raccoons was bad.

I don't think they make them for the general public. What we have is a big wooden bin hubby made. It doesn't stop the bears though. They pull the boards off the sides.

If you have a big freezer, maybe you could double bag the food items and freeze them till trash pick up.

We don't get those kinds of services way up here. We're lucky the power company comes and checks when you report an outage.

Take it that you haul your own. We used to take ours to the local landfill. Just remembered my mom had an extra refrigerator that she used to freeze stuff in.

D#2 just came in wearing a yellow cat costume that she spent half the night making. Tomorrow is their last official day at school, so I believe they will all be in some sort of costume! I pity the teachers, they just spent the afternoon in the rain, clearing the mess left today. The kids all got to the school early this morning and made the carpark look like a caryard! There were 'Sale' signs and balloons everywhere.

Yes, Rena, and yes! If I don't regulate my pooter visitations, I might lose all rights. As soon as hubby gets home, I go on! He usually goes onto his at the same time so I don't do it to get away from him, but at the mo, he has a new toy so he's playing with that.

No, their pranks are a little more high tech these days. One year, when I drove in to drop the girls off, the whole front courtyard was FULL of real estate signs. They must have been collecting them all year!

I think they get fully sick of it. This year, there was a police car at the entrance of the school so that once the kids who are driving had left the school, they weren't allowed back in. Usually they would go in and out several times tooting their horns etc.
What all kids forever will never get is that to them, it is once and funny...to the staff, it is every year and a tiresome bore!

They did that here and the principal made the seniors go out and collect them. Then they had to sort them and call the companies.

At least they didn't vandalize the school. It could have been a lot worse. The front of my high school was all glass. One of the guys "borrowed" his dad's truck and they soaped the whole thing.

I hope not. I don't think they do that in Canada. At least I've never heard of it happening. Not to schools, anyway.

I was just thinking the problem with kids today... but stopped myself because I sound like every parent in history! But I do believe that kids receive little or no consequences for their actions, which leads them to believe they can push the barrier just a little further.
