Had a wonderful time hosting book club last night. MzT - I'm gonna send this book along to you. I think you might enjoy it...it's rather "light", but very sweet. Only a couple of gals didn't really enjoy it and one of them tends to like very heavy, serious reads.

I am making chicken stock to make chicken veg soup. Home made is just so much better, richer, than canned broth. Other day when we were out, and I did not want to come home and cook, we picked up a oven roasted chicken instead of going out to resturant to eat. also got a packet of already chopped slaw. Made a nice lunch for us, and enough chicken for a second meal, all for the price of one sandwich purchased out. NOW, I am getting makings for the third meal, chicken stock and bits and pieces from the bones and such of the chook. One of my Nearly Home Made recipes.

Do you get that cooking show? is it Nearly Home Made or Almost Home Made? Good ideas on how to take purchased stuff and add your own bits and make it special.

Do not know that show Tricia. Another way with chicken meat is to use a tin of soup ie mushroom, asparagus or chicken, some curry powder, frozen peas, other vegies if desired and heat, serve with rice. For chicken soup I buy a chicken carcass and cook. Only problem I do end up with a lot of small bones.

Heidi the stress is giving me hives. Ages since I last had them and always stress related. Just annoying.
The cold is OK now but still get some bad coughing at times.

Oh, June. Hives on top of everything else! You've really been through it. Have you tried cough syrup? I had a nasty cough after my last cold, and had completely forgotten about the stuff, 'til my GP suggested it. You still need to be the strong one for a while yet.

JUNE, the reason I am making veg soup is tinned soups have just too much sodium for us with high blood pressure. We like a vegetable soup for lunch with a sandwich,(helps with that 2 at every meal veggie or fruit thing) It does not have to have much meat in it to go with a sandwich.

I once made a lot of casseroles with the canned soups. Now unless I can find low sodium soups I do not have that option, bummer!

Must go check Broni's boat, see if there's a party going

Heidi, enjoy listening to War of the Worlds. I have only heard the recording once, years and years ago. I have read the book several times though and love it!

I love listening to it with a big mug of hot cocoa (with marshmallows) and a bowl of buttery popcorn in front of me. It's an annual thing for me. I've even been to Grover's Mill, where the Martians first land in the broadcast.

June, I hope your hives and cough are a little better as the day goes on. I've only had hives a couple of times and was able to take anti-hitamines which helped a lot! You have already said that you can't take anything at the moment that will make you drowsy so you can't take them. They must be driving you nuts!

Sounds amazing and fun Heidi! It's the 30th in KY? I have just found a memory.... I have the Jeff someone recording somewhere - the musical version. I'll have to find it and bring it out. Around 11am our time I'll put it on and we can 'listen' to our different versions at the same time!

That's almost as fun as having someone with me. Yes, it's still the 30th here. I love listening to the actual broadcast that terrified a (naive) nation.
