cross my heart, Rolanda. So are you going to quietly whisper to June and me as to where you're going. We won't tell Gail.

You don't need to go far to have a holiday anyway Rolanda. Just getting away from the same old stuff is a great break.

Thank you June and to all the others who asked, both here and elsewhere, last I heard, Mum is a little better now. She went to the hosp last Monday with palps and breathing difficulties. She was given a battery of tests including an ECG and bloods and all turned out well. The upshot of it is that she is now on the district nurse's list, so she will be monitored in the home more often.
Every day with them in our lives is a good day.

Gail, it's hard being part of the sandwich generation isn't it. How far away is your mum?

She's in Adelaide and apart from my brother, we all live interstate which is what makes it so hard.
They both know that we are just a phone call away and will drop everything to be on the next plane if they want it, but being so far is no help when you know 'it' could be any time.
The truth is I am resigned to the fact and am at peace in the knowledge that I have told Mum I love her. She knows how we all feel about her.

Hi Girls.
What a day here! We got a new computer etc. for Ethan. Connected it all up etc.
Then you have to make your own set of recovery discs and as usual Ethan did not read anything and just went ahead. As a result we have had to chuck out 8 DVD's.!! Why is it my men do not want to read anything? It does not happen by magic.

It was very warm here this arvo, 30c. Very warm in the sunroom trying to connect up modem/router etc. I know CynB is going out for cup day.
Are you doing anything Gail or Susan or Rolanda if you are still here.

Gail, I feel your mum is also at peace in the knowledge that all of her children love her. Not everyone can say that.

Not me Viv.
In fact, I used to do more for Cup Day when I lived in Adelaide than I ever have since living here in Melbourne!

Viv, there's a few people here chasing your decluttering services. I think June is one of them, but she's been told to stand in line. Actually, my niece is a professional declutterer. It provides her with a good income. Some of the stories she tells me are unbelievable - no names of course.

Gail, I agree about being in Melbourne on cup day. We went to the cup in '63 and '64 (with a 3 week old baby but Mum was with us and it is the only time in her life she went to the races!)'73 we went out and bought a house and other years it was Sunday school picnic day.
In Sydney everyone organises lunches etc. If you are in Melbourne I think you are supposed to be at the cup. Two years ago we were in Dandenong area when that storm went through!

I did forget that the primary school my girls went to used to have a thing on the Monday called The Spotty Cup (Spotswood Primary). A fun picnic day for the whole school and their families with lots of events planned like teachers versus the grade 6 kids on bikes, and piggyback 'heats' for the running of the Spotty Cup. Good fun, but not on the actual race day.

Viv, get some bamboo blinds for outside the windows, they can be rolled down when you are in there on the pooter. A rotating fan will help too.
