Lord grant me the serenity to accept stupid people the way they are, the courage to maintain my self control and wisdon to know that if I act on it, I will go to jail.

So why would an airport suddenly decide they need to check every single persons bag?

Suzy - in case you have a bookmark or toothpick... I don't know how many times I have had to post my bookmark back home from the airport. I think the group that were caught in Sydney who planned to put bombs in toasters hyped up the searches.

Just 3 1/2 days until surgery. I'm hoping that my liver is shrinking like it's supposed to on this diet. I'm being so careful. If it hasn't shrunk enough, the surgeon will just sew me up again and refuse to attempt the surgery again. I've had to pay in advance, since I don't have health insurance, and that money is non-refundable.

Heidi, do you think the surgeon may be testing your resolve? I am sure they have to put up with patients who do not do the right thing like you and expect miracle surgeries. You certainly are showing you are determined and fair dinkum about it all.

She’s in Sydney! I was a little worried there was a suspected threat in Manila, but if there was, she avoided it,or the searches stopped it. No other hassles. Other than waiting hours to get through security. It was lucky they went early.

The surgeon said from 2 to 4 days, depending on how quickly I bounce back from the surgery. I will report in here as soon as I get home. I don't have a laptop, tablet or smart phone so I can't report in until I'm home.

CynB, what wonderful news for Col and for you! Have a wonderful and relaxing cruise!

Heidi, will be thinking of you and the doctor and other medical personnel for your surgery. Of course, with your preparation, everything will go well! Your determination will see you through! Great preparation and planning! I'm so glad you have friends who can help with the animals! I hope 'Fur Heidi' enjoys her stay at the vet.

Cyn, I'm sure you got everything organized and packed! Have a wonderful holiday with Col!

Heidi, you have certainly prepared well for your surgery. Your excellent blood tests confirm that!

GREAT TOPP, Heidi!

Suzy, what wonderful news that Alie arrived back home safely!

Heidi, good planning to get the hay moved ahead of time. It seems you've done everything you need to do to be ready. I hope your recovery is quick and painless, and look forward to your update when you return home after surgery!

Wow, Midge, they even confiscate a bookmark at the airport! I guess I'm lucky that I usually use a folded piece of paper/junk mail as a bookmark. We have found that security at U.S. airports varies quite a bit from airport to airport, probably even differences between various security employees.

DOrA, thanks for remembering to ask how long Heidi will be in hospital. I hope you continue to feel better.

I haven't had a chance to check facebook in a week or so, but hope all is well with MizT!

Awake early today, and able to sit at computer a bit, so here I is! Read a few pages back in FEB, Valentines day, then skipped till today. I think tomorrow is Heidi's surgery? GOOD LUCK. Hope all goes well.

Suzi, how is the new pup doing? Did the test drive work out? Happy Alie is home safe after the long delays at airport.

Brief update: I had my procedure on Tuesday, the 19th at 8:45 am. Even though doc did a slightly different procedure, getting to nerve root outside the spinal column, i HAD HEADACHE BY 2 PM. Also increased leg pain initially. I phoned with a message, they got back to me Friday afternoon. Did send me a steroid dose pack, if headache not better in 7 days, phone again. It may take up to 3 weeks to get full results from block, for leg pain.

After first day of the dose pack, head still same, but I cautiously took a few steps without excruciating pain, and I am here at computer with only mild pain today. Maybe in right direction. My neighbor has picked up my lunch every day from downstairs, and even went to pharmacy for me, cause they do not deliver late friday afternoon or Saturday. So I see a bit of improvement, hope it continues.

Leg said this is enough. HUGE HUGS to everyone. BTW, I live in Jefferson County, if there is another tornado outbreak. No snow here, but we keep getting shirt sleeve weather, then Jacket or coat. Temps are not freezing but wind chill makes it uncomfortable for a day, or part of a day. I have missed spring, did go for a chair ride outside yesterday, first day outside in over a week!

I'm ready to go. I've stocked up on 200 lbs of bird food, 200 lbs of dog food and plenty of fish food (because I won't be able to do any lifting for quite a while after the surgery). (I've made up Timmy's meds (wrapped in bacon) for 5 days. My bag is packed with everything I think I'll need, including meds and an extension cord to plug in my phone charger. I've made sure the clothes I want are freshly washed. All I need to do is take a shower first thing in the morning and drink 16 oz of Gatorade before 8:00 AM.
Can anybody think of anything I missed?

Glad to hear the pain you have had is slowly improving MizT - it is always uplifting to get outside.
Good one Suzy - I think it would take longer than 1-1/2 hour to purify me!! Glad Alie is home and well.

A Tale Of Two Pots...

A water bearer in India had two large pots, each hung on the end of a pole which he carried across his neck. One of the pots had a crack in it, and while the other pot was perfect and always delivered a full portion of water at the end of the long walk from the stream to the master's house, the cracked pot arrived only half full.
For a full two years this went on daily, with the bearer delivering only one and a half pots full of water in his master's house. Of course, the perfect pot was proud of its accomplishments, perfect to the end for which it was made. But the poor cracked pot was ashamed of its own imperfection, and miserable that it was able to accomplish only half of what it had been made to do.
After two years of what it perceived to be a bitter failure, it spoke to the water bearer one day by the stream. 'I am ashamed of myself, and I want to apologize to you.'
β€œWhy?' asked the bearer. 'What are you ashamed of?..' β€œI have been able, for these past two years, to deliver only half my load because this crack in my side causes water to leak out all the way back to your master's house. Because of my flaws, you have to do all of this work, and you don't get full value from your efforts.' The pot said.
The water bearer felt sorry for the old cracked pot, and in his compassion he said, β€œAs we return to the master’s house, I want you to notice the beautiful flowers along the path.”
Indeed, as they went up the hill, the old cracked pot took notice of the sun warming the beautiful wild flowers on the side of the path, and this cheered it some. But at the end of the trail, it still felt bad because it had leaked out half its load, and so again it apologized to the bearer for its failure.

A Tale Of Two Pots... part 2

The bearer said to the pot, 'Did you notice that there were flowers only on your side of your path, but not on the other pot's side? That's because I have always known about your flaw, and I took advantage of it. I planted flower seeds on your side of the path, and every day while we walk back from the stream, you've watered them. For two years I have been able to pick these beautiful flowers to decorate my master's table. Without you being just the way you are, he would not have this beauty to grace his house.'
Moral: Each of us has our own unique flaws. We're all cracked pots. But it's the cracks and flaws we each have that make our lives together so very interesting and rewarding. You've just got to take each person for what they are, and look for the good in them. There is a lot of good out there. There is a lot of good in you! Blessed are the flexible, for they shall not be bent out of shape. Remember to appreciate all the different people in your life! Or as I like to think of it- if it had-n't been for the crackpots in my life, it would have been pretty boring and not nearly so interesting...

Hi, MizT! It's great to see your post, but even greater to know that you could post because you are feeling better! If only you could get some pain relief without having to add excruciating headaches to your pain! What a blessing to know that you have been able to get to the computer at least for a while this morning! May each day bring additional relief and more opportunities to get outside for some fresh air!

Heidi, I can't think of anything you have forgotten. Two hundred pounds of bird food and dog food should last for a while! It's great that you thought to prepare Tammy's meds and be sure you have fish food. Even better that you thought of the charger for your phone! You sound so very well prepared! Keeping you in our thoughts for the next few days while you're in the hospital and for a speedy recovery post-surgery!

DOrA, what a great story of the two pots! Yep, I'm a cracked one, for sure!

It's time to hit the hay here, so I'll say Good Night. Sending positive thoughts, , healing energy, prayers, and {{{{{HUGS}}}}} for each of you!

Hi, Everyone!

It's good to see you here again today, MizT. I hope that means you're continuing to feel better!

Also sending Huge {{{HUGS}}} to Heidi! My thoughts are that her liver had shrunk enough and the doctor proceeded with the surgery, thus a more involved recovery than if he just decided her liver was too large. Wishing you a speedy and pain-free recovery, Heidi!

Hoping your cruise is very enjoyable, Cyn and Col!

Checking once again to see if there is word from Heidi. Not yet, hope that means it was possible to do the procedure, and that she is noow recovering.

I am having a yo yo recovery. At times it feels as if I took one step forward, then 2 steps back. Must report in tomorrow to pain clinic patient portal, as I finished the dose pack today. Still have headache, so still no real reason for it found. Pain gets better at times, then rears it's ugly head once again. I have contacted another cleaning lady, to have her come Monday for a while, and my current one to continue to come on Thursday. Between the 2 of them, maybe they can sort me out without me trying to get up and walk around and get leg/back to hurting again.

Hugs to everyone, with extras, till next time.

So sorry you are still so much pain MizT, Hope the pain clinic can help.
Heidi did say she wouldn't be in touch until she was home again - as her phone is not compatible.
DorA - reminds me of Leonard Cohen's 'Anthem' - there is a crack in everything, that's how the light gets in. Hope your back is getting better and 'the hound' too.
A bit thicker than usual today Suzy, had to read your joke twice before I got it.
Hubby and I just back from 2 days away at the beach (didn't stay in the van, stayed at the local hotel with a balcony view of the water) Was lovely - he slept the whole day - he was exhausted and just needed a break. I read a great book by Linwood Barclay. Back at work now and in to hospital tomorrow for another CT Angiogram - looks like something wrong with the stents as I am losing mobility again - so no football tonight as I don't think i can get up the stairs in the grandstand. Will just have to stay home and watch it.
Cheers to all

Checking in to see if Heidihas posted.

Suzi, today was a roller coaster kind of day. Pain let up this morning, I carefully stood at sink to wash a few dishes. At first twinge, back to recliner. Got the rest of dishes washed later, again, back to recliner quickly. Considered that progress Then this afternoon, went down to listed to a Jazz band visiting, good music, but back/leg must not like jazz. Pain ever since and head decided to join the pain party.

Pain clinic has not responded to my latest message, will be Monday now earliest, drats. Appointment is Thursday.

Heidi is posting. I've been home for several days, but in massive depression. My darling dog Heidi passed away at the Vet Clinic the first night I was in the hospital. She came thru' her surgery OK, but that night a suture inside burst open and she bled out inside. I suspect that she was trying to escape and get back to me. They found her dead in the morning. Mike called me as soon as he figured out what happened. It has stressed me out more than I should be, and I can't seem to stop vomiting, even with the meds they prescribed.

Hello, Friends!

MizT, how I wish you could experience consistency improving health and decreasing pains! I hope that will become a reality for you! Wishing you only steps FORWARD!

Midge, how delightful that you and hubby could claim a couple of days away at the beach and stay in a hotel with balcony view of the water! He obviously needed some quality rest, and hopefully the book you were reading provided restful enjoyment. I hope the CT angiogram went well and they can figure out why you are again losing mobility! Hoping you enjoyed watching the football on TV.

Suzy, hubby and I truly have begun to find ways to say NO when we can. It's just that the last 6 weeks or so have present far more 'opportunities' requiring excessive amounts of our time and effort. Some of that was due to gathering and preparing everything to complete our taxes (with appointment with tax consultant on Monday), so that will soon be put behind us. We have also been able to help several family members with baby-sitting/child care/being the adult presence to oversee and supervise for several days in a row. This weekend it involved a quick trip to spend time with some of hubby's family, including quite elderly and ill. It's just that a lot filled our plates suddenly and over a relatively short period of time. We still have some demands on our time over the next few weeks, but hopefully not as time consuming. It will get better, and we'll survive.

Heidi, the good news is that the surgery went well and you have an excellent recovery to look forward to. I'm so sorry and at a loss to find anything that can help you deal with the loss of your dog Heidi. She must have been frantic to get home to you. How awful for her and for you. I hope the passage of time will help! Sending {{HUGS}} and warm positive thoughts!

My thoughts are with everyone. Feel free to share these healing vibes, positive thoughts, , {{{{{HUGS}}}}}, and prayers!

I'm shocked. I just weighed myself. Since 2 weeks before the surgery, I've already lost 25 ibs!!!! This was the right thing to do for my body. I AM so craving a slice of pizza right now, tho..... but I'm still on a pure liquid diet while the stomach heals. The reason for the pizza craving? I was watching basketball today and all the commercials seemed to be for different brands of pizza.
