I love the quote, too!!!

I caught another cat last night.... one they told me I could have. it's a 6 to 8 month old solid black male. I'm still trying to catch the other kittens. A neighbor told me that there's another black and white kitten, for certain. The neighbor is thrilled that I'm trapping and rehoming the cats. She's concerned that they'll get hit by cars, a fate that happens to a lot of cats there.

Just got back from the service station.... with 2 more cats. One is a tuxedo littermate to the split faced male and the other is a tortie female that they think is their mother. (The father is suspected to be a loud black and white male who belongs across the highway from the station.) I'm only taking cats that they told me I could take. I've released a couple that belong to other people, including a gorgeous longhaired marmalede male. One I hope to catch, that I'm allowed to take, is a longhaired black smoke. Gender unknown. It's breathtakingly beautiful.

So far, I've brought 5 cats home this weekend. The 2 black and white kittens, 2 6-8 month old black cats with TINY white spots on their chests, and the tortie female. I REALLY need to control a mouse problem here.

I heard that the weather was going to turn nasty last night, so right before it did, I collected my traps. I didn't want to risk cats being caught in them during below freezing weather. And I'm glad I did. Last night, we had an ice storm, and the roads are impassible. It's not supposed to get above freezing for another week. Once it does, I'll re-set the traps.

Just got back from the Vet Clinic with the two kittens. Domino (split faced male) and Betty Boop (Tuxedo female) are now fully vaccinated. They both purred through the whole ordeal.

Heidi - I love the names you choose for your animals!
No answers yet on what ails Colin. His cardiologist could find nothing wrong with his heart, which I find ridiculous because I've seen him in distress trying to breathe through his palpitations.
Next step is a stress test on Tuesday. If it shows nothing, which it must, that kind of exertion will show them exactly what happens. Otherwise they are talking lung specialist and gastroenterologist - obviously looking for hidden cancers.
This is not doing his mood or general wellbeing any good. He was very aggressive driving home yesterday. I should have been driving.
Fingers crossed for an answer soon, and not a bad one.

Wow, three days and no-one around.
Unusual for Heidi. Maybe she's snowed in without power.

I've got the cat traps set up at the station again. The owner has told me that he wants all but one removed if I can do it. I don't know if I want THAT many cats, but I'll take a few more. I'd LOVE to destroy the local rodent population.

CynB.... are you getting bad weather from that typhoon? I've heard that it's not expected to make landfall, but it looks close and they have been known to change course.

Not yet, Heidi, and as you say, they're not sure it will hit landfall but they are warning us it could be bad.
We are fairly protected here, even though we are close to the bay, it's still a good 5km as the crow flies, and we are high enough not to flood either.
Keeping our fingers crossed for those in the path.

Forgot this bit - cruise ships who were doing the Pacific Islands - New Caledonia, Fiji etc, are scurrying back here to avoid it

Keep safe, my friend.

Caught another feral cat tonight. This is an adult black with a silver dollar sized white spot on the chest. This makes 6 I've brought home from the mechanic's shop. 4 are feral adults which are probably untamable, and the 2 kittens are getting very tame.

Looks like the Cyclone Gabrielle is passing us and heading straight for Norfolk Island, which is very small and hilly. I've been there and there's not much low lying land that could flood, except for the old historic penal colony at Kingston. But, of course the high winds would threaten all structures on the island. I have my fingers crossed for the inhabitants, many are the descendants of the Bounty crew. After it hits there it may head for NZ or turn back toward Australia but hit NSW, which is unusual.

Midge, I do hope they find your son. Please keep us updated. It's a mother's nightmare.
Heidi, the crew went to Pitcairn and their descendents came to Norfork Island, NZ, Australia and the US. The ones that stayed got very inbred on Pitcairn. I do remember that the Quintal family were prominent in Norfork Island when I was there in 1985. Ross Q used to do Island tours and ghost tours of the ruins of the penal colony at night.

Got another cat this morning.... an enormous VERY feral blue cream female. I'll probably never lay eyes on her again. Once I released her in the feed room, she raced around inside, then took off out of the room into the main barn.
These ferals are all excellent mousers. I need them. I was in the hay barn a little while ago (had to put out hay for the horses and alpacas) and I was noticing the mouse damage to the hay rolls.

Heidi, with so many cats - any problem with ''spray marking'' territory?

These are ferals, and they don't stick so close to the horse barn to mark territory, that I've noticed.
I just caught the last kitten! It's a gray tabby. I suspect it's a male, and if it is, I'm calling him ''Freddie'' after Freddie Mercury. He's VERY vocal.

Just got back from checking the cat traps. Didn't catch a cat tonight, but there was a huge opossum in one of the traps. So I brought it home and dispatched it. I didn't think they wanted this nasty fella at the station eating the cat food.

We're having very bizarre weather for the depth of Winter. It's 72˚F / 22.2˚C right now! Beautiful! Unfortunately, the meteorologists are saying that we have a strong chance of tornados tomorrow.

I finally had it with the constant telemarketer calls (~15 per day) on my landline phone and cancelled it today. Now I only have a cell phone. And a lot more peace and quiet.

We've had 3 inches of rain overnight, and it's still coming down! We're under flood warning, flood watch and flood advisory. I have no idea what the difference is.

The rain is STILL pouring down. I have now measured nearly 6 inches since 11 PM last night!!! I'm SO glad I'm on very high ground.
This is a cold front coming in. It's 60˚F / 15.5˚C right now, and it's supposed to get warmer today before the plunge to freezing tonight.

Just got back from the Vet Clinic with Freddie, the third kitten. He now has all his shots. Freddie proved to us that he is a complete feral. We had to wrap him in a towel while he screamed and clawed like a wildcat. Very different than his brother and sister, who purred the whole time. I had to drive through a serious downpour, where all of the cars on the road were crawling because of horrible visibility. Made for an interesting excursion.

Heidi, will Freddie settle and be like his siblings or will he stay feral?
I agree about unwanted phone calls. I cancelled my landline several years ago, and now, when my mobile rings, if I don't recognise the number I let it go to voice mail, where I tell any caller to leave a message and I'll get back to them That's stopped unwanted calls. Funny how they take you off their call list when you don't answer a few times.

Freddie will stay feral. He shows no interest in being friendly, and I think today traunatized him. Betty Boop acts like she might want to be feral, but is undecided. Domino definitely wants to be a pet.

I LOVE karma.
My idiot ex used to tell me that he was a better person than I was because he went to church and I didn't (despite him being an adulterer, liar, thief, forger, convicted sex offender and convicted poacher). Today I heard that he and his present wife have been kicked out of their church for bad behavior! I can't stop giggling.
