EEK!

On our drive to Fernandina Beach, we stopped at a scenic site to take pictures and came across this huge rattlesnake - dead, fortunately! He must have been hit by a car, then slithered to the grassy bank where we found him.

It doesn't look as though there was damage from a car. The only rattler I ever encountered went the other way as quickly as I did.

I've always considered rattlesnakes as honest snakes. They give you fair warning before biting. It's a shame that he met his end this way after such a long life.

That was a bigggg snake...I would not have wanted to meet him while he was still among the living, and I'm not too keen on seeing him after he's dead either....I am sorry that he met such a tragic end, but it does seem to happen more than we care to think about I suppose.
