Welcome to the wide world of sudoku. A vase of violets(because they have a welcoming smell each time you walk in the front door) for the hall way table and a plate of choc fudge for the wee small hours is my welcome gift.

Jane, The resturant is the Columbia House, they have Cuban food. It is at the corner of St George and Hypolita, in the old part of the city. There is a parking lot west and behind the resturant, I think the first hour is free if you eat at the resturant. There are several pay parking lots in the area. The best place to get pralines (in my opinion) is Savannah Sweets, up the street to the north. If you have never been to St Augustine there is several things to do and see. When we lived in Florida I would go down in the winter when the tourist were gone. The town reminds me of Spain and that is one of my favorite places. Forgot if you like outlet malls there is two at the hwy 16 exit, the one on the east side is enclosed.
Have Fun.

Hi Jane! I am so happy to have found another tennis lover in our sudoku family (I like your expression Sudokuzzins!)!! Is your league at St. Simons connected to the USTA? What USTA rating are you? I am still a 3.5 despite having played tennis for over 30 years now. I am not a great athlete, just love the game & the friends I have made through tennis. Highlight of my tennis 'career' was going to Senior Nationals in 1998. We didn't do very well since we had to switch to playing on hard courts at Tucson, but it was a real thrill just to be there!!! Please come by by page someday & tell me about your league. I'd love to hear all about it.

Jane, I was glad to hear back from you so quickly! Am guessing there won't be much tennis at St. Simons this weekend if your weather there is as rainy as ours. Usually I hate getting rained out, but we needed it so bad I don't mind it all this time! Your idea for mixing levels of tennis all on one team is great!! That keeps everyone mingling & having fun together regardless of their level of play instead of keeping all the better players isolated. Just wondered though if there are four matches played in mixed, do the teams often split 2-2? How is it decided who is on which team? How many courts do you have to play on? I've always wanted to see St. Simons Isl. Is it private or can anyone drive out there? We're always in a hurry it seems when we pass by on I-95 on our way up to Fripp Island. Are you watching much of the French Open? Do you have any favorite pros? Sorry to ask so many questions!

Hello Jane, welcome. For the last several years, I've been taking a boat up and down the waterway from Rhode Island to Naples, always stopping in Brunswick, at the Marina where the casino boat ties up. I've enjoyed seeing the revitalization of Brunwick, and my intention is to move there in a couple of years. That whole area is spectacular. But I do notice that good restaurants have a tough time staying in business.

Hi, Ian! I guess you don't have a page, so I'll answer your note here. Although I live on St. Simons Island, I have several friends who live on their boats at the Brunswick Marina. Another friend spent most of last summer there (they spend the winters in the Keys) but will be staying at the Jekyll Island Marina this summer. You might want to check that out sometime. It's really nice. They have a swimming pool and spa and are adjacent to Cee-Jay's restaurant. Brunswick does seem to have trouble keeping their restaurants going. Not too many people go there at night. I don't know if you have land transportation available when you're traveling by boat, but if you do, there are a lot of great restaurants on St. Simons.

If you decide to move to this area and purchase property, let me know and I'll put you in touch with a good realtor. Also, if you're a tennis player, I'll have to get you to join my tennis league!!! We have men and women of all abilities and ages (18 through 87!).

Take care!
Jane

Jane, I wouldn't overlook Amelia Island and Fernandina Beach, just down the road. Check their tourist websites through Google. They were my second choice after Brunwick/Golden Isles.

Hi, Ian! We take a lot of day trips to Fernandina Beach. On summer weekends, the beach at St. Simons is too crowded, so we often go to Fernandina, spend the day and then have dinner at the Surf Restaurant. They have live music every night and lobsters for $5.95 every Sunday! Unfortunately, they will be closing permanently after Labor Day. A developer will be building a condo where the restaurant is located. Rats!

Good Morning Jane - Well, I finished the book this morning. I had a hard time getting 'into' the book, but once I started it, it was hard to put it down. I thought for sure Senhor Jose would have been fired and lose his home! I couldn't believe that he would change numbers on that woman's grave! He spent so much time looking for her and learning about her and then to do that! I also couldn't believe that the School Master didn't report the break-in. I would think that it would be an obligation of his to do it. One of our local libraries has a book discussion group. It has been very interesting. They read just one book a month and meet once a month to discuss it. I have read some books that I would never have read otherwise. Thanks for sharing this book with us. It was interesting.

Oh Jane!!! Your Nastursiums are just beautiful. Thank you for your response! I wonder also why Senhor Jose was give such special treatment when he was ill. (Hot food, nurse, doctor, medicine, etc.) Why was he treated so special and then to live there. I agree, there are a lot of unanswered questions. I think part of the reason I had a hard time getting into it, was that it wasn't grammatically written very well. After I realized that the commas were suppose to be periods, it made a lot more sense. He didn't drive or have a car, but always had money for a taxi? If you read another book, let me know!

Hi Jane! We came home from Fripp Sun. night & have spent four fun-filled days with our oldest grandson Caleb who's seven. Rob flew home to NC with him this morning & won't be back til Tuesday. So I am starting 5 days as a free woman!! So far the peace & quiet are heavenly. I didn't get to play tennis at Fripp at all as we were too busy with all the kids & their activities. I figure I can play tennis all I want when I'm home so I choose to concentrate on doing things with the grandchildren during the one time a year when all 7 of them are together. We did take Caleb up to our club here, though, so he could take a real tennis lesson from the pro. I don't think I've asked before - do you have children & grandchildren? If so, how many & where do they live?

Hi Jane - Thanks for your visit! I hope you have a great trip to Florida!

I have a question.... We were told not to pick the Rhubarb after the first frost. We were told that the poison in the roots comes up into the plant after it frosts. You said that you picked Rhubarb until November in PA. Did you not get a frost until November? We usually get our first frost in September!

Jane, saw your note on Debby's page about your recipe for 'press-on' crust. Would that be easier to do for a person like me who cannot roll out pastry worth a darn? If so, I'll have to find that recipe after you post it.

Thanks, Jane. This looks like a recipe even I can handle! And I like that it's made with canola oil, too. Have you ever combined the rhubarb with strawberries? Rob loves strawberry rhubarb pie best of all so maybe I will try experimenting a little.
