Hi Jane - We are staying in Galax! We have a friend there who runs cattle on our property and he has invited us to stay in a house he owns for low rent! It is near town. Our property is off of the Blue Ridge Parkway. (Fancy Gap Mailing.) This house is about 20 minutes from our property. I am taking my stringed instruments with me. Hopefully I will have a chance to 'jam' with someone!

Oh Jane! You are very kind, but you made me giggle! I have played the piano since I was 7 years old. I had 5 years of lessons when I was young. I can read music and that makes it so much easier to pick up a new instrument. American idol? I don't think so. We have way too much fun for that. We get together every Monday night for about an hour and a half and I will miss them while I am gone. Half of our crew go to Florida in the Winter. They are here from the end of May to the end of November. It is good to play with other people. It makes me come home and practice!!!!

Jane, your island looks just beautiful! Do you live there year around? Do you go inland when there are Hurricane warnings? My parents are in Cape Coral, FL and they refuse to leave their home. I worry about them during Hurricane season.

Hi Jane - Your Island sounds like a tropical paradise! Do you remember the Hurricane in 1989? Hugo? It hit our property in Virigina. Our property is West of I-77. I am not sure how far we are from the coast, but that Hurricane sure came in-land. We have friends whose lawn chairs blew away. They never found them! They were in their car-port. They also lost half of the shingles on their house.

If you didn't catch Lou Dobbs today - the weekend program will air at 6 pm Sunday. He is on daily at 6 pm (EDT) on CNN. He has been covering the Shrimp & Fish problem and other problems with shipments out of China. Also covering the lack of product labeling of where the meat/fish/poultry are from. Now they want to send American chickens to China for processing, whre the standards are nothing like ours. Check his program out if you are not a regular viewer. If you can't be home - record it and watch it latter.

Mmm... yummy... Thanks for the peaches and crab cakes. And a double thanks for stopping by my page. I am finding it to be great fun, but I've got to control myself as I'm allowing it to consume way too much time!!!

Pioneer is in the central Sierra Nevada Mountains of California. It is a beautiful place, with nice weather and lots of fun things to do year round.

I enjoyed looking at your pictures. St. Simons Island looks like a paradise! Do you live there year round?

Cheers.

Hi Jane! I thought of you yesterday when Rob & I went out & played three sets of mixed doubles. It was SO hot even though we started at 8:30 AM. How many couples do you have signed up for Sat.? I wish we could be there, but we're just too tired to make another trip. I was wondering if you might be home the weekend of Oct. 13? We will be traveling up to Fripp Isl. to spend the week of Oct. 14-21 & could stop for a visit to St. Simons on our drive north. I see that the Holiday Inn Express allows pets so we could stay there with Ebony. Maybe you could set up some tennis for us if your hand is better by then? Have you had the MRI yet? If no tennis, maybe you could give me a kayaking lesson? I have always wanted to try it, but never have. Rob & I would love to meet you & your husband. It sounds like you two have done quite a bit of traveling. I noticed one day you mentioned doing some business in Quito, Ecuador. I've been wondering what kind of business you were in. Anyway, I hope we can find a way to get together sometime. Good luck with your event this weekend. Try to stay as cool as you can - cold beer helps!

I don't know Jane, it's going to be tough choosing! It's between Angie and MizTricia. If I have to choose one, then MizT. Otherwise, I would make it a tie!

They were all so good it's hard to choose, but since it has to be one, I have to go with Mary/Bibra Lake. It was the Mountie already having his man that won me over.

Wow, this is a hard one, they have all been so good so far. Emels and MizTricia are my favorites with the others also so entertaining. Because I must pick one, Emels gets my vote.

Hi Jane,
I've been using this site for about a year, but I never signed up until I saw Jane from St. Simons Island Ga. I had to register just to say hello. I usually try the medium and hard Sudokus. I am not a tennis player, I'm a cyclist. I belong to a group that rides mainly in Brunswick and Jekyll Island and somtimes on St. Simons Island

Hi Jane! How did your mixed doubles go on Sat.? I was thinking of you & wishing we were there instead of here installing new tile around the top of our pool. It is a painstaking job for amateurs like we are, but Rob figures we can save about $2200 by doing it ourselves. The old tiles were 21 years old & very faded & worn, so the bright pretty new ones are a great improvement. Maybe we'll be done by next weekend - I hope so!

Thank you for the Birthday Wishes last week. I had dinner with Mom that evening. She then flew up to Portland, OR for a Class Reunion (68th) and flew back for the wedding on Saturday of her only grand-nephew (my cousin’s son – 41, first marriage). Mom (85) refused to take a nap after getting up at 3 am for the flight back and insisted on driving (through Los Angeles to Orange County) for the wedding – she still drives fast. By the time we got to there we were not speaking & the drive back was even worse – getting home around midnight. The wedding & reception was wonderful (so was the beach party the night before, which Mom had missed). Dad always said the reason we fight, was because we are so much alike – both strong willed women. But, we will always love each other. I left Tuesday, had a meeting in No. Calif. Wednesday afternoon, and decided to camp at Burney Falls State Park – making my dog happy, before returning home. The back is still bothering me – but no violent pains – more of the gnawing variety and when standing up after sitting too long (so there were a lot of stops on the way down and on the way home). Thanks for the good wishes – I’m safe if not sound.

Hello Jane - I have thought of you several times in the past 3 weeks. We have had some very delicious peaches while we have been in Virginia. Has it been hot where you are or does the water help cool you down? It has been very warm here in the mountains. (Mid 90's since we have been here.) I hope all is well with you.

Jane, thanks for the story about your brother. Good for him that he found success with Slim Fast. I like hearing about people that have conquered this most difficult problem. It gives me hope. I think I'd probably drink the Slim Fast and then go on and have breakfast.

Jane your comments about surfing - reminded me of the Wedding a week ago I attended. The minister told Benny - that the joys of today and to come together will surpass the best wave he has ever ridden. He is over 40 and still a surfer & has taught his nephew how to surf. His email - Bennysurf. This is his first marriage & she feels the clock is ticking and wants children. The reception was at the Hyatt Regency at the beach & must have cost around $50K.

I agree - that money could have been a good portion of a down payment on a home - set aside for the child. She was not pregnant at the wedding as so many are today - the date was set over a year in advance. Even at their age they are not putting the cart before the horse. A surprise in this age.

I really have no idea how much the reception cost her parents. It was at the Hyatt Regency (Huntington Beach) sit down dinner for 300. The meal was Lobster Bisque Soup, Salad, Choice of Filet Mignon or Brazed Halibut & Wedding Cake - Champagne, Hor'd'ourves, wine & open bar plus Valet parking ($12 - covered). $150 @ person would run it upward to $50,000. Could be more.

I remember my Mom telling our next door neighbor how much my wedding was costing. It was a cake & punch affair in the church's recreation room. They had 5 daughters and her husband decided to encourage them to become nuns, then gave them instructions on how to elope. This was over 45 years ago. I don't know if they paid for any of their daughter's weddings (they did help with their college educations). I know one was in a park, another on a beach, another in Vegas....

Hi Jane - It was great to hear from you, but I was sorry to hear your brother has been without power. I don't like being without power! We live in the country and have our own well. When our power is out, we have no water either. My youngest daughter had called and left a message on my phone the day after all of the turbulent weather to let me know they were okay. Several tornadoes had touched down in our area. But the house and family were all okay. I guess the National Guard had been called into one area. (Fenton) TSC had just moved to a new building and it took their roof. Is South Haven in the SW corning of the state near Lake Michigan? If it is where I am thinking, it is near the park where I met my sister earlier this summer.

Hi Jane - My dear grandmother, God rest her soul, use to claim that the fruit grown on the west side of the state was sweeter than that grown on the east side. She claimed it was the sandy soil that it grew in. Yes, we are home. We pulled in Sunday evening around 7:00. We surprised the kids. The house was in pretty good shape, much to our surprise. There has been no evidence of any wild parties. (ha ha) We were relieved. This hasn't always been the story! I didn't want to come home. I love it down in Virginia and I can't wait to move there. Life is a slower pace, people are "warm" and I love the music from that area. I did miss my friends and children. I missed this website, too. Thanks for your visit.

Hi Jane. Thanks for your note of sympathy on my page. I decided not to put any notice on Easy when I left town. It always seems like telling bad news there just drags things down & causes too much repetition of "I'm sorry"'s. Rob & I are still planning to stop at St. Simons on our way to Fripp next month. Thank you again for extending the invitation for dinner on Fri. & tennis on Sat. Ebony has been behaving herself very well lately, & we feel confident she will do just fine in her crate at the hotel. Have you been playing tennis lately? How is your hand feeling? Are you watching much of the U.S. Open? We got a huge kick out of Djokovic's imitations of Sharapova & Nadal yesterday. He's not only a great player but has such a warm & funny personality, too. I will write more to you in a Personal Message soon.
