Hi Cyndi, I've been trying to pop in to wish you well, but have been delayed since I was trying to finish making some changes at my place. I finally finished and am glad I got a chance to say hello. Thanks for all the welcome gifts; they will used and shared for days to come.
I need some help with 2 areas, so here goes: 1) I have 2 great Peace Lily plants. One is doing great; but the bigger one's leaves droop all the time and are curling lengthwise. I have searched on the web extensively, and can find no answers. If anyone has any ideas, please Help!!
2) I also need help with the butter keeper. I recently acquired one of the butter keepers that you can keep the butter out of the fridge and it can stay soft for easy use. I know you keep icy water in the bottom part, but do you cover the butter? do you change the water when the ice melts? It's almost easier to set the butter out so it will soften for use and then return to fridge afer use. Any help will be greatly apreciated.

There are about 150 for sale now, 50 at auction and 100 in eBay stores. There is a wide variety of colors and shapes, some in themes (like a snowman). Some are very plain, some elegant. The price at auction runs between $5 and $20, and most of the stores have them for $20-$25. Add about $6-7 for shipping and handling in both cases.

I'm sure that a good culinary store you carries them, and so do a lot of the discount home goods stores.

Cyndi: Sorry, I thought you were asking where to get one (in the Comments pages on Easy). There is no need to use ice. The water seal, keeping out air, is enough (and the ice might actually work against that seal).

Change the water every three of four days, and just use cold tap water. If the water stays clean, without crumbs or bits of butter, a week without changing is no problem.

Maybe the information in the post above will be of interest to somebody. Or you can ask that it be deleted.

Hi Cyndi! You got some answers quickly about the butter bell. Sorry I can't give any advice on the peace lily problem. Just curious - what did you retire from doing? Also, are you the one who lives in Irmo? Sorry I can't remember if it's you or someone else. Do remember that you have a Navy connection somehow. You should pay a visit to BobC in AZ if you see his name come up again in comments. Ian makes a good point about it being hard to locate pages if there is no current post!

Hi Cyndi, Thanks for the chance to visit you. Those butter bells sound like a great idea - do you know if they are effective in hot weather (85F ++) as it gets pretty hot in W.A in summer?
Peace lilies - are they Arum lilies(large white flower with a prominent yellow stamen)? If not, do you know the botanical name? Also do you have them in pots or in the ground; are they in the same spot and getting the same amount of water and sun? You didn't mention it, so I guess there are no signs of insect damage to the leaves.
It sounds as if there may be a problem below ground e.g something to do with the soil, or a pest. You could try re-potting the sick one, or, if it's in the ground, lift it, dig out the existing soil and replace it and replant the lily. In either case check out the plants roots for signs of disease/insect attack. Hope this might be some help.

Cyndi: When I first used the Butter Bell, I put plastic wrap over the butter before putting it in the base, trapping air inside and thereby defeating the whole purpose of the water seal--so don't feel alone about having a hard time figuring it out. But do keep the water clean and reasonably fresh.
