Greetings. Please stop and visit anytime.  I retired last December, so I'm usually here,  and I love the company.  I'll keep the kettle on for y'all who drink your tea hot, or I can brew a cup of coffee.  I always have iced tea in the fridge.  For those who prefer the "harder" stuff; I just checked the bar, and it's properly full right down to the Bailey's for your coffee and the Jaegermeister for those with no taste buds left..  Laughing    I read the comments daily even though I don't always respond.  I love the jokes and appreciate people's insight and intellect.  So, even if you don't see the lights on; give a shout, stop, sit a while, put your feet up, have your choice of drink, and I'll find something to munch on as well.  Thanks to those who have taken the time to say hello.   With a little help, I'll try to finish "moving in"  to my page soon..  Best wishes to all of you.                   2006-11-30

Hi Cyndi. Dropped in to see if you have settled into your page yet, but you've obviously been bust over the holidays. A coffee with some Bailey's would be wonderful thatnk you! Hope you drop in so I can return the hospitality!

Hi Cyndi

Yes, we are here permanently. I love this little town - but like you, I really don't like the snow. My husband, however, loves it - so we stay. My sister lived in Windsor Locks about 6 years ago - and I'm only a hop-skip and a jump away! I actually work (part-time) at the airport. Thanks for introducing yourself.

Hi Cyndi! Happy Easter to you, too! How's the weather up there? Still going to be cold for sunrise services? We have our beach house at Fripp for the week of May 6. Sure hope it's much warmer by then. We Floridians need lots of warmth & sunshine!! Could you refresh my memory & tell me again what your connection to the Navy is. Was your husband in the Navy? I forget

Cyndi, yes, I definitely have a Navy connection -was a Navy wife for 23 years!! Rob enlisted in the Navy in '67 after leaving the Univ. of Michigan (where we met) one semester short of graduating. The Navy sent him To Miami Univ. in Ohio through the NESEP program where he graduated with degrees in both Chemistry & Anthropology. He then became an officer & served on both surface ships & nuclear subs as both a weapons officer & later a supply officer. The Navy also sent him to the Univ. of Kansas for a Master's Degree in Petroleum Management. Right before we came to FL he was the fuels officer at Roosevelt Roads, Puerto Rico. He retired out of CENTCOM at MacDill AFB in 1990 shortly before the start of Desert Storm. Since then he's held various jobs with the State of FL & now is FULLY retired. Long story but a good life. Even though we moved 17 times in 23 years we look back on them with many fond memories & good friends.

Now I'm in danger of becoming a CPer on your page! But I just had to come make one more comment. Can't believe your Bob & my Rob were both NESEPs! It really IS a small world. Maybe we can meet up in SC sometime. You're from Irmo, right? Would you ever consider coming to pay us a visit at Fripp? We'd love to meet you.

Hi Cyndi - I'm back! It would be great if we could get together in SC. Bet we would find lots to talk about. I would love to know what ships your husband was on, the different places you lived, etc. We come to Fripp four times a year. We are co-owners (1/13th share) of a beach house there so we get to spend one week in each season (4 of 52 weeks). Our next scheduled week is May 6. If you want to send an e-mail to our postmaster Ed from Lithia, baysbestbev@tampabay.rr.com, he can give you my e-mail address so we can write each other more privately. Will look forward to hearing from you!

hello cyndi, so glad you enjoyed the bodie island lighthouse pix. we also stayed at some motel on the outer banks. didn't go every year, as we traveled to NC on business and found our way to the OB on our way from here to there....LOL..
the last time we stayed at that motel was about 3 years ago and we went back last summer looking for it. i'm terrible with the names of the towns there, but it was just south of Bodie Island lighthouse. there was a long fishing pier there. anyway,,,,the motel was totally gone. no ruins, so lumber, no foundation. just gone..a recent hurricane must have taken it. it was almost like 'do we really have the right place? ' it really made us question our sanity..LOL
now we just take our popup camper and have a great time. there are quite a few new campsites available. wonderful.

did i read that you were a navy wife?

yes, Cyndi, i, too, was a navy wife. it feels like a hundred years ago or so, but it's been 30 years since hubby got out. we were married in san diego, then transferred to newport, ri where we stayed until he got out - after several med cruises and shorter cruises. he was gone a lot....you know what i mean. lol. i worked in the navy law center while there. like JAG on tv. what an experience.

we travel between NC and louisiana several times a year due to hubby's work. near greenville, NC and near lafayette, LA. quite different from Indiana, where we both grew up..lol culture shock, for sure.lol

Back for another visit. Yes, whether you're fond of cats, dogs, whatever ... any animal suffering just rips a huge hole in the heart, doesn't it? Technically, Arthur shouldn't have gotten blocked at all, since he and our other two cats eat a certain kind of food provided by our vet to prevent crystal formation. So we're all perplexed. Thankfully, we're starting to wean him off the fluids a little to see if he can continue to pee-pee (!) on his own. So the dreaded needle will appear every second night next week. He's isolated from the other two so we can observe him--I tell you, it's a really serious thing. Male cats, and dogs too, once blocked, have about thirty-six hours to live, so we were lucky. Anyway, thanks again for the hospitality--nice place you have here! Have a super weekend, Cyndi!

Cyndi,
This is the web site I use for shrinking pictures for avatars. Always make sure the avatar size is 50. Have had a couple of pictures that when shrunk are deformed, went and croped them, tried again and they were fine.

Hi Cyndi! Just stopped by with a bottle of Niagara ice wine and the latest 'Arthur update.' Just spoke to the vet--we tried (according to the vet's advice) to slowly wean kitty from the fluids, skipping a morning treatment and adminstering last night, after a 36-hour break. He doesn't seem to be doing quite as well (pee-pee wise), so we're going with another round of fluids this evening to give him a boost and see how he does. This is a very serious, tenuous condition so I suppose we can expect little blips along the way. Meanwhile, we've still got two other cats who are isolated from Arthur so we can carefully observe him, meaning we have to make sure they get enough attention as well. It's quite a juggling act, but our vet claims we've saved Arthur's life and are doing better than some doctors she knows. I'll be relieved once the crucial two week time span has passed. What a tale, huh? Thanks for caring, enjoy the ice wine (for dessert, and sparingly--it comes with a heck of a hangover) with those you love. Best to you and yours this weekend. P.S. I'm still perfecting my home page ... just call me a techno-idiot.

Hi Cyndi, Thank you, for the kind compliment on my photography, I am far from being a pro. Just take pictures of things I like, don't even have a GOOD camera. I keep hoping to get more pictures on Flickr but haven't found the time.

Hi Cyndi! It's a beautiful Monday morning here, sunny, with the rhododendrons just coming into bloom. On the Arthur front, we're still watching him closely. He's a ton better than he was a week ago, but still licking occasionally which means he's still irritated. Yet he rewarded me with a massive pee this morning (soooo much information!). He's been eating well, too--special canned cat food to dissolve the crystals. We're currently weaning him from his fluids (every 48 hours now, and last night's session was a good one) and giving him his anti-depressant every other day as well. Hopefully once this week is over, he'll be out of the woods. Thanks for the comfy pillow--it has come in handy, that's for sure. Our other two were grateful for your affection--we're doing our very best to see that they don't feel too left out. So ... vet, psychiatrist, urologist ... wonder how many more hats will fit on this head? Still managed yesterday to get to church, power-wash the patio, get the fountain running in the back yard.
Anyway, here's hoping your week will bring you a mountain of fun! I'm sending along a wicker basket full of white tulips to thank you for caring about my critters.

Good morning, Cyndi, and no problem about the cat questions! Arthur had a great day and night--perhaps he's truly over the hump now. Struvite crystals occur in male cats, mostly indoor, who are fed a diet of dry food. Arthur's case baffles us because as I mentioned, he's been on a specialty diet to prevent this. His breed, Maine Coon, is no more susceptible than any other. His two 'brothers' were granted visitation rights last night, so it was pretty cute to see all three of them sleeping in various corners of our sunroom while we watched 'Dancing with the Stars.' Luckily, I work from home so I can keep vigil and monitor progress, but my husband has proved to be quite the vet, giving the sub-cue fluids while I grip Arthur and cringe. We've been through similar nursing experiences (minus the needles) with our first cat who died of old age and kidney failure, and another of our beloved pets who developed injection-site cancer. We wrapped the tumour by making a t-shirt out of the leg of some long underwear ... so we're no strangers to going that extra mile for our little guys.
I wish you a week of smiles and delight!

Cyndi, I do not think I ever properly thanked you for the cookies and pecans you left as my Page warming gift. Many thanks , I love key lime! When did you live in Opelika? I have a couple of friends in the Opelika/Auburn area.

I have lived in Alabama all my life, untill the last 10 years, in the Birmingham suburbs. Then we moved to a much more rural area, almost center of the state, about half way between Momtgomery and Birmingham. LOVE the rural setting, no traffic, driving to town through peach orchards, and cow pastures. I did not know I was really a transplanted country girl :>).

Cyndi, just read your question on SA, about avatars. did you ever find some? I use the http://www.shrinkpictures.com/create-avatar website to reduce photos, but i search the web for photos, I google whatever subject I am looking for, like Lemons+images+ free ( without free, you get some sites wanting BIG BUCKS for some really beautiful photos). Hope this helps, I got both my avatars this way.

I think you could also take any graphic from something like print shop, save it to your computer photos page in jpg format, and then take that to the create avatar site. there are other ways too, but this is what I have used. Hope this helps. If I can help you some way, leave a message on my page, would be glad to help you hunt, in my spare time.

Cyndi, My brother, Brother in law and hubby were all at Auburn, Brothers in the 60's, hubby was either late 60's or early 70's, I forget, as I did not know him back then.

I am a bit further south and west of your niece in Calera. Both Calera and Pelham are considered bedroom communities for Birmingham, and Calera is in south Shelby county. I am one county further south, Chilton county. I do go to the Wal Mart in Calera often, when I am not going to the one in Clanton. They are about the same distance from me, one north east, one south east.

Check back with me whenever you need help, and hope I can be of assistance. Someone had to show me how to do what I do on the computer, my turn to pass it along.

OK, I am in danger of doing a CP here on your page, let me get out of here.
