That is always a problem when they have to share
At present only D#1 is driving and she has bought her own car now. Son needs to have driving lessons again(for some reason he stopped taking them), but we need to get a car he can use as both of ours are too highly powered and are automatics. D#2 will start to learn next year unless they change the driving age, which they are talking about at present

The up side of having children who drive is that THEY can act as taxi driver if you want to go out and enjoy an evening with some wine etc

We bought a little car, for the boys to learn to drive in,
S #1 uses it, and pays for the upkeep. He is planing on buying his own soon,
then the car will go to S #2 and then he will pay for the upkeep, until he can afford to get his..

When D#1 started driving the insurance on the little car we got for her was about £750 ($1500) for a year, whenwe looked at doing the same for S the insurance was more than double for him

yes, we got a shock when we got the little car, and how much S1 had to pay for the insurance. but has reduced somewhat in the last 3 years..
Would be interesting to see how much the insurance will be for when S2 takesover..

Insurance we paid for was third party fire and theft o the little car, now D#1 has her own car which is a higher insurance group (car is sporty and top of it's range though not new) she now pays about £500 for fully comprehensive insurance

We had S name put on D#1 insurance as an additional driver and that cost less than £30. Unfortunately that can't be done on her own car as they wouldn't insure anyone under 23 on it. So we have to get another car and start again with insurance for him

In Western Australia..
at 16 they can get their learners Permit
at 16 1/2 they can sit for the Practical Driving Test
at 17 they can get their license and are on P (Probationary) Plates for 2 years
Once they have passed the Practical Driving Test, they have to logged 25 hrs of Supervised Driving.
Once the logging is done, then have to sit and pass a Hazard Perception Test (done on the computer). before a license is issued.

slightly different o here
at present they get a provisional(learners) licence at 17, they have to pass a thery and hazzard test before they can go for their practical test. Once they have passed a theory/hazzard and the practical they are free to drive by themselves
