Lost a post, drats.

Julie, you might get a message in your e-mail, if you get your messages from your page sent to e-mail. If not, top right corner, INBOX says you have messages waiting

I tried to post a comment. Not only did it get lost in cyberspace, but I couldn't get back into SA.

Thanks, MizTricia. I found the Inbox, which indicated one, so I checked it. Does it let you know if there is a message? My screen is too small, so would need to scroll over to even see the word Inbox.

Lynda, thanks for letting me know what your area is like. Maybe those kangaroos just need to be reminded how very yummy the vegetation on the golf courses is.

This is so slow, MizTricia we have about 50 or 60 that need burning. We are in an sort of forest area, although all the best trees have been harvested unfortunately.

Maybe kangaroos in Oz are like deer in the US - pretty to look at, but adapting to living closer to people, and overpopulating, so going into more populated areas to find food.

MizTricia, you must keep your speakers on. I tend to turn mine off if I'm not listening to a YouTube.

I don't think kangaroos are protected, a lot of people shoot them to eat. They can be very agressive. Mobs of them get together on the greens and won't let the golfers through, if they get pushed they rear back on their tails and use their back legs to rip down the front of the person/animal they are attacking. Nasty.

Does kangaroo meat taste good? I wonder if it is anything like deer (venison).

To send messages go to the person's page and top right corner (I think) it says 'send this person a message'. Take it from there. Kangaroo meat has no fat or chloresterol (how do you spell that?) It has to be a bit rare but the steaks are good. Most of the rest goes for pet food.

Wow, Lynda! No fat or cholesterol in kangaroo meat? That's a dieter's delight. Can kangaroo meat be purchased in a grocery store or from a butcher?

We get a lot of wildlife here, including MizTricia's favourites, I shall have to whisper this (s****s!) We get possums in the roof that p*ddle above the light fittings which short circuits them, the light fittings not the possums, although I have seen a few scorched ones.

You DO have lots of wildlife! We are near a forest preserve, so we get deer, an occasional coyote, geese, some fish & turtles in nearby ponds. I suspect there are s****s, but haven't seen them. I really don't care for them, but once held a small garter snake (at school, in front of students & trying to set a good example).

The summer is the worst time, the snakes, spiders and scorpians are more active then. This time of year the wildlife is more furry and nice. You must have some lovely walks around your place.

Do you have foxes and rabbits? They were introduced here by the early settlers for their amusement, since then the foxes have killed and eaten most of the small wildlife and the rabbits are in plague proportions. Like the cane toads, introduced species tend to mess up the environment. Just look at Man!!!!

We have rabbits, have seen foxes, but not in our yard. (We just have a house in a small suburban yard.) We have spiders, some rather large and 'stronger' looking, while others are somewhat more delicate. I don't know species. Luckily, we don't have scorpions. I have ragweed-type allergies, so don't walk much in the forest preserve - and bad knees, so don't walk much on the sidewalks.

What is ragweed? I don't think we have it here. I tend not to walk in the bush too much when the wattles are blooming, makes me sneeze. What form do your allergies take? Is there nothing that can be done for your knees? It must be very restrictive and painful.

Actually, I think 'ragweed' is an all-inclusive term that covers growing plants whose pollen can cause an allergic reaction. I get runny nose, teary eyes, and occasionally a scratchy throat. Various grasses & trees cause varying amount of discomfort, but I take a prescription pill that lessens the reaction. As for knees, after an injury about 8 years ago the orthopedist said I was a likely candidate for knee replacement, but in no big hurry, as they only last about 15 years, and then you need to do it again. He prefers to wait until you're in a great deal of pain & medication doesn't help much. I try to keep active, and walk and exercise in water and have lost some (not enough) weight.

What are wattles? Are they flowers?

I just took some time out to look up ragweed in Wikipedia, the plant with the most allergenic pollen in the world!! Do you find the pills to stop the symptoms of hay fever make you feel sleepy? Wattles are Acacias, they all have yellow flowers. They grow like weeds here, very attractive when in full bloom.

You're right, the medication makes me sleepy, so I take it before bed. Now I'm going to google Acacias.

Another 'grass/weed' that bothers me is Queen Anne's lace, though it is quite beautiful.

Yes we take in old and abused horses, sort of refuge. I used to ride but have given that up since I had brain surgery. I suppose your knee situation is very much like people with hip problems, leave until it is unbearable. Not much fun. I have a friend who has had both hips done three times, over 90 years old now and very mobile. Aquarobics should help you a bit.

Wow! Wikipedia has an amazing amount of information about acacias and many pictures, including bark & seeds! 950 of 1300 species are in Australia. It can be used as food, for medicinal purposes, etc. They are apparently native to Australia, so no wonder they grow well!

Hi, Linda and Julie! I have many pollen allergies and take Claritin every day. It doesn't make me sleepy, but it doesn't completely control the allergies either.

I took Claritin for quite a while, then during our winter (I now take it year-round due to other allergies), my allergies became very bad & the Claritin just wasn't enough. Over about 3 months I tried several other medications. Finally, Zyrtec helped, though I had tried it several years ago, and it didn't help then.

You're right about water aerobics. I usually take a class every day.

Queen Anne's Lace is very pretty to look at, I suppose that is why it was introduced into the US. According to widipedia it is a noxious weed, does that mean you have to report it to the agricultural authorities?

Hi, Ruby! How are you this evening? My experience with allergy medication is that they lessen symptoms, but don't get rid of them entirely.

The Queen Anne's Lace doesn't get reported. It just isn't very popular. Our neighbors behind us have let some of their yard go 'wild' and that includes the QAL. I'm not happy. I keep telling my husband I'd like to go out some night or EARLY morning & try to get rid of it. Of course, I would be miserable if I did.

Hi Ruby, I spent some time this morning on GE looking at Ruby SC, looks like you have a lot of timer around there. Do you have nasal sprays there like Beconaze? Do these anti-histamines help with rash like reactions? Sometimes after a walk in the bush, especially if we wear shorts, we get mystery rashes. They soon go though.

Julie if it is a delcared noxious weed you should be able to report it. We have a government department here called Conservation and Land Management, they take care of that sort of thing. Tell them where a plant is and they come and destroy it. The people with the weed have to pay the bill!
