This Mensa brain teaser calendar isn't as tough as it's cracked up to be since you guys get the answers so fast, but here is another one.
Purple is worth 70 points, green is worth 60 points and red is worth 35 points. Using the same scoring system, how many points is orange worth?

Not 25 and not 70. I couldn't get this one, but I tend not to think out of the box.

Not 60 either Ian. Maybe this is the one. It is tricky.

I was assuming that Blue was worth 35, because purple is half blue and half red (subtract 35 for the red). If green is worth 60, and it's half blue (and half yellow), then yellow is worth 25. Orange is half red and half yellow; red is worth 35, yellow is 25, therefore 60 for orange. No?

Good logic Ian but the question has nothing to do with what the words mean. That also threw me.

Then it's something obscure, silly, or both, like the "brainteasers" put out in the Sunday Parade Magazine (a US-only publication, I think), where some words can be spelled by using just one row of a telephone pad. Maybe assigning values to the number of letters in each, or something like that. I don't think it makes other answers wrong, just not what the puzzler had in mind.

Hi Brenda! I'm going outside to cut S#2's long wavy red locks. I like his hair long but his school requires it to be above his ear and collar. Thus marks the end of summer!

True Ian! It is always good to come up with other answers. I'll wait to see if anyone else has any idea as to their answer, then I'll give their solution.

Hubby took the car so I don't know for sure. He said there was a mark on the door caused by flash back (?), so they're going to touch that up next week. Other than that I guess it's running well. It certainly looked brand new!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY CHLOE!!
Please tell her how special she is, Gail, because she gets to celebrate twice, once for Aussie time and once for the USA timezones. Hope her dinner out was fun for all.

Now back to read and catch up! After I say
Morning Stella, and Brenda, are you two still there??

Then is it something like this?
VALUE JUDGEMENT
The name bracelet for Sally cost $40, the one for Jill costs $35 & the one for Jean cost $30.
Under the same system, how much will the one for Ann cost?
$25
$5 for vowels (including Y)
$10 for consonants
The problem with a one-answer puzzle like this is that you could just as easily say that the base cost of the bracelet is $5, and a "Y" costs $35, "I" costs $30, and "ea" costs $25.

okay another thought
45 points.
assuming Red is the lower number. and Purple the highest. with Green the second. which would make the orange third.
diff between 1 & 2 is 10 points, with 3 & 4 diff also 10 points. that would make Orange 10 points more than Red.

Stella how long is S#2's hair. My kids school just say that hairstyles cannot be too outlandish...no bright colours or 'punk' styles

His hair wasn't that long since it has only grown since school ended. But it was at the point that little curls were forming around his neck and ears. He goes to an all-boys school run by the Christian Brothers and they go by military rules for the hair cut.
Ian, you are very close! You are on the right track. Start with the smallest word.

Purple (70): 4 consonants, 2 vowels
Green (60): 3 consonants, 2 vowels
Red (35): 2 consonants 1 vowel
If a vowel is worth 15 and a consonant is worth 10, it seems to fit.
But I still like the color spectrum answer better.

Sorry it took so long to get back to you! I kept getting interrupted with phone calls and just finished cutting S#2's hair.
You guys are good, it is 75 points! 10 points per consonant and 15 per vowel.

But it was worth it right! You, Andre and Ian got it!! (Sorry, don't remember how to do the e accent)

Here's another one, similar to sudoku.
Place the letters in the word HOPE in the empty "boxex" of the "square" below so that each horizontal, vertical and long diagonal contains one of the letters but not two of the same letters are next to each other.
H _ _ _
_ O _ _
_ _ P _
_ _ _ E

The letters can be "next" to each other on the diagonal, but not vertical or horizontal. This one is actually too easy.

A lot of them seem easy or silly. Here's another.
An eight-letter word is spelled out in the box below. Find it by beginning with the correct letter and moving clockwise or counterclockwise around the box, using each letter only once.
E R E
N _ H
T A D
(the line is just to hold the space in the "box.")
