If you were one of the participants (way before we ever had "memberships"!) in Gath's Sudoku site back in 2005, please share with us the date of your first post & maybe also reveal how long you were a "lurker" before you got brave enough to hit "Submit" on a comment for the very first time!

After lurking for several months I finally got up the courage to direct a comment to Jim from Jupiter on Dec. 4, 2005. I also revealed in a later comment that that day was my 59th birthday, & I was overwhelmed by the end of the day by all the people who wished me a happy birthday. Back in the olden days we had no avatars or smilies, just words! Today when I reread all the comments from that day, I recognized LOTS of people who are STILL frequenting Sudokuland. It feels like we're all old friends even though most of us have never met!

Thanks for starting this Kathy.
I am a lurker and have been, on and off, since mid 2005. Probably posted first sometime in Sep / Oct, as Jimmy from Edinburgh, don't have time to search to find exact date.
My first recorded post is on 13 July 2005 but that was back dated in honour of Liam the first Sudoku baby - born 20-Oct-05 to Lisa from Toronto. That date was used because the Medium puzzle had no comments when the guess the weight & date competition started.
If you want to see who was around in October 05 just check out those two dates.
Andre from England was in charge on easy then and gb from France ruled the tough page, all ably wound up by Bucko from Spokane or was it Spucko from Bokane
I tend to read the comments most days but only put in my tuppence if something catches my interest.
Like this.

Looks like not much interest in Oldies identifying themselves. I'll post another request next week & see if we can dig up a few others. I think there must be at least 20 or more who are still around. If I ever have time, I may search out the names myself!!!

yes I do belong to class of 2005..think I started somewhere in late nov or early dec 2005.Like many has mentioned, me too was ignorant abt the comments that was 'hidden' below the puzzle.Just accidently I happen to get to it and even then after quite sometime only started making posts. Was ap/india and now turned appy/india.
Thats the story of my sudoku indulgence!!

I was using Sudoku at least since 2004. I was a member at one point …when I was a computer's beginner. After many frustrations, I stopped looking at posting but always played the games. For me, this site is the best. I tried others and none was as fun as this one is. I started to read the posting, and then browsed here and there until I finally was comfortable enough to become a member. I'm glad I did.

I know I was visiting the site in the summer of 2005, but not sure when I made my first post. I lurked for a long time before posting with the name of "LP from Pioneer". I was so intimidated by the fast times that many posted. My best was never under 10 minutes for the longest time. I remember the arrival of baby Liam (I think that is his name)during the summer of 2005.

I came to this site to play during May of 2005. I just wanted to play so I never read the times that were posted. That September or so I was able to get back online and saw that comments were being posted but I wanted to play and had alot of catching up to do so I never cared to even set up an account. I haven't had a summer internet connection until this year, and I am glad that I have it now because I recently broke my leg and am spending most of my time with it proped up. With all of my free time I started reading some of the general postings today and found out that you were looking for people who had been playing since '05, so I decided to make my story known.

Oh how sad to go back to the archives but I did and in amongst the comments found my first post on 6th Oct 2005. (I had lurked - fully dressed of course for a while but just watched mainly). I liked billy, we tried to beat each other posting first. I thought she was a man and she thought I was a man... love at first sight it happens! (Hey billy we have to be honest now!). I remember lots of people having fun, party at Fiona's place for the Hen weekend, Trevene my betrothed, it was kind of easy to be around... full of the site going down with errors, GB's wonderful explanations of how to do the tough's and just some amazing characters full of life, humour and pure silliness xx

And of course that amusing little question 'Where's the timer'... 'It's at the top, left hand side in the pink box'

Hi, there!
I think this site was a Yahoo! best site, that's how I found it. It's been great for a beginner (I couldn't do the ones in the local newspaper) to learn how to solve the puzzles (love that "Check moves" feature) Now, I can do the newspaper puzzles up to Wednesday or Thursday (puzzles get tougher as the days of the week advance) and an occasional Friday!!
I lurked for a little while (yes, I was one of those "where's the timer?" folks) before I ventured down to find the Comments section.
I found one of my comments on Oct 19 2005, but that may not be my 1st post...

I also have been using this site since May 2005, which was when it first started. Back then we did not even have photos after solving. The first ones were put on, by Gath I suppose, and were things like coffee cups I remember!! I'm not sure when I made my first post, but it must have been about the time of Liam's pending birth. That was a major excitement at the time.
I remember Andre's TFTD's being fairly early,, and was at the 'hens' party.
The coining of Maen by also caused a lot of comments and questions, especially 'what does Maen mean?' and funnily I noticed one on the jigsaw pages just this week!! Ahhh memories!!!

I found the site in 2005 some time before September. I just did the sudoku games and read the comments and did the jigsaws when they started, so I must have been a lurker and I don't know when I first made a comment. I joined as a Supporting Member last year and I also talked my sister, Kate, into having a look at the site and she joined before me and she loves it too.

I started on the site back in May 2005 but the comments didnt start straight away and were added at a later date. when they were added I didnt post a comment to start with cos I am such a wall flower. but eventually got up enough courage to post a comment around the time for guessing Liams birth. then I joined in many of the fun parties and poetry days that geve this site the popularity.

I started on this site back in May 2005 when we didnt have pics or any comments, they came later. I didnt comment even when it first became available as I am such a wallflower. I think I first commented around the guessing time for Lisas' baby Liam who was born on my sons birthday. I joined in to the parties and the in character poetry eventually. those days were what made this site so popular.

I know that in June 2005 I was printing out the puzzles. I did a whole lot of them as I wanted to take them to hospital with me when I was going to have Laura. She was born in August 2005. Unsure when i first posted on the site.

I first posted in 2005... not quite sure when. I found one on 1st October but was checking out the site long before that. I can remember when there weren't photos when you completed a puzzle and the only comments were about the puzzle. I can also remember when you only had to wait a few weeks to see your own photos come up on site. Thankyou for the patient tutoring gb on tough. I remember our first baby Liam. andré has been sharing her wit and love of chocolate consistently since then. Yep Susan from QLD, In the days before the chatroom, the romance between QRP and KRP was a public d'affair de coeur. Everyone joined in and there were Earls and Knights created at the stroke of a key. Remember that sad little contender - Blind Freddie's Cousin. Did he ever find his Cousin? Did KRP escape the site intact? There were also other fantasies - the themes for a day- the boat trips. Then there were the very public squabbles as the storming and forming before the norming. Then once the chatroom was extablished there were some hilarious evenings. Then I realised that I was addicted and spending WAY too much time on the computer ... so I am now an irregular visitor. I rarely lurk. I usually comment if I am around. (Some people are just born with wide open mouths and waggling tonsils. Good to see that there are some of the originals - eg Jimmy from Edinburgh still lurking. ... and YES --- We want SPOCKO from BUKANE. In my ignorance I hadn't heard of Spokane WA at that stage. .. Thought it may have been some distant planet :)

By the way I am quite peeved that one has to have a name of at least 3 letters these days and that those who haven't been around for a few years call me fii rather than fi. But it was either ffi or fii or ifi. Best of a bad choice. :)
