Heidi, in the words of Maxwell Smart "Missed it by that much." I would love to have seen you get a TOPP on your birthday.

Good one Suzy!
I'm checking out ringtones for my new cell phone and I've been here for an hour now - too many choices!
When I first saw your post at the TOPP Suzy, it made me think of the song,
"If you're gonna leave me, can I come too?"

Susan had 26C and 98% humidity at 3am! There aren't regular updates for her area so I don't know if it's raining there now. It looks like it didn't rain yesterday...

Heidi, I gave people 8 minutes to come in to take the TOPP! Probably only because I didn't notice the count at first, but that's beside the point... and I saved you on your birthday!

Suzy, you are not supposed to save Heidi. It should be a rule. You HAVE to TOPP on your birthday.

So many friends are on line. I was watching the news this morning and they were showing the fires down under. It is horrible to see. I will keep thinking happy thougts and hope they go across the miles.

Had a most...interesting...convo with the birthday boy last night. He sure does have one warped sense of humour. (I suppose that means I do do because I understood just about everything he was saying!)

Gail, I don't like the sound of that. If they are near you, even collecting water, you are too close to the fires.

Thank you Tami. There have been so many stories of beautiful generosity that I hope, in some small way, it helps those who are suffering so much.
One radio station has been running a Telethon this morning and when I last heard, they had raised almost half a million dollars and were hoping to get to $750000 by 10am. Channel 9 will be continuing the thon on Thursday night.
One supermarket chain, Coles, will be donating all profits made on sales on Friday from all their stores nationwide. Everyone in Aus can help support this by shopping at their local Coles on Friday.

Suzy, there is nothing on the incident site that is anywhere near me. They have been flying over an area for two hours now, so I am sure that if there was something to report, it would be on the sitrep site. I am hoping that they are doing a controlled burn-off or something. I think I will ring the local fire brigade or something.

Will be back a bit later, I really have to do some ffuts as I have had absolutely no interest over the last few days for some reason. I even had to use a mug that I don't like this morning for my coffee! The effrontery!

Which maps Suzy? Do you mean the one with the fires? I will add that link in case that is the one you meant.

Forgot to add, none of the local brigade's units are out at the mo, so that is an indicator that I have nothing to worry about.

I can't read the maps! Too many little bubbles.. But I will keep the TV on and listen carefully for the names of familiar towns/cities.

SUZY, some of the maps I was looking at you could zoom in, and that made more room for the bubbles. Can that one zoom?

Hiya Gail - glad you are out of danger right now.
I sure relate to the experience of living through a long term fire. Last July we couldn't go outside for a month because the smoke was so harmful ...and fire fighting helicopters and planes 24/7. I was so grateful that we were not threatened...but there came a point where I was so tired of the heat and smoke - really sent me into a deep depression. Hoping it clears your area soon.

This organisation was on the news this morning. They have volunteers on standby at the staging areas and are waiting to be allowed to get into the affected areas to see what they can do. There is a link here to make donations for those concerned.

Yes, that one can zoom Suzy, thank you for the info MizT. When I looked at it yesterday, I was so pleased to note that there were no fires immediately around us, nor are we in the path, due to wind direction of any in our area.

Heidi, everyone must be looking at it after it was on the news, or maybe it is limited to locals? I checked it out before I posted it and it was working then.
Gail, I've just been sent an email that is doing the rounds here about Coles on Friday. It has a huge distribution list.

Heidi, that is the online donation form, but it's obviously done on a budget... you have to scroll all the way down to see the form. Don't know if that was what you were trying to do, but just in case...
