Suzy - glad all went well for Ally. She's lucky to have such supportive parents but I'll bet she knows that already.
Nicky - I see your Connor is 10 on Nov 8, my eldest grandie and only g/son Lachlan is 10 on Nov 2. I can't believe 10 years have gone so fast. He and our 4 g/daughters have added so much joy to our lives.

I have enjoyed the IH discussion. But today I have good news about mine -
Hubby has just gone to do an induction and is starting a job tomorrow. Yayyyyyy! He won't be under my feet anymore but to be honest I will miss him.
Surprise, surprise he will be driving a (concrete) truck. Was not sure he reaaly wanted to do that but he's bored and can't really come up with any better career ideas. He is actually a motor mechanic but does not want to do that. It's money coming in anyway.

Love hearing all the stories about husbands. Mine only throws small tantrums. I have told his mother I am sending him back, she told me she finally dumped him on me and she is not taking him back.

I know it doesn't make sense, Heidi, to own a business which was a truck and sell it and then go straight back into driving trucks. But, the hours, the stress etc got to us both so we decided to get out. Working for someone else, whilst not bringing in the big money like the business did, has it's advantages - you can turn off when you finish work. If you have a mechanical breakdown, you're not responsible for cost of repairs, down time, customer complaints. Bliss!! Now there's a delineation between work life and home life - we've not had that in 10 years.

A relo drove a concrete truck for a few years. I never liked one of his scams - his boots were from a major US department store with a 12 month or 2 year guarantee, whatever it was. A month before the guarantee ran out he would trade them in for a free new pair - working with concrete he was lucky they lasted as long as that!

Hi Susan - looks like I missed you. I've been dealing with a miserable puppy. Misses hubby already - looks like I'm in for a difficult few days until she gets used to him having to go to work. She's asleep on the desk now so typing is hard.

We try not to do halloween but the neighborhood kids do so I get in small treats for them. I don't mind the younger ones but when the greedy teens come later that annoys me. We went out last halloween and came home to find we had been 'egged', obviously by teens.

We have been on this farm for 17 years, and have only had Trick or Treaters twice. But they get real treats. Lots of candy, and a tour of the farm, complete with holding and petting baby animals.

No pupil free day for us this term RolaDahlia - only the first 3 terms...

I love Halloween Heidi! It was so much fun and I miss it!!! We had a remote control car with a big felt spider I made to fit on top of it. When the kids started up the driveway (not the really little ones) we'd send it off after them. The screams we heard were mostly from the escorting mothers!!!!

CynB, where I lived in the US teens wouldn't have been caught dead trick or treating - sooooo uncool! Only preteens.

That spider sounds like a scream! I tried a spider that used an electric eye, once. If someone git too close, it would drop down on a string right in front of their faces. Scared IH. But it was cheap and didn't work long. My dogs think most decorations are their toys, so I can't put much up.

Yes, Suzy, that's the way it should be. Even though it's not Aussie tradition, I really enjoy the littler ones in their fancy dress, all smiles and thank-yous when you give them a treat with their parents nearby - but these older kids (12-15yo) who whoop around the streets, yelling and screaming and expect bigger and better treats from you. Sorry, not on for me. If they're old enough not to need their parents with them, they're too old for trick or treating!!
Heidi, how wonderful to be able to show them the animals!

I remember one year when the girls' cousin 'escorted' them around. She was too embarrassed to go otherwise. Unfortunately for her she was very young but very large and so looked older (I think she was taller than me even then, or close to it anyway).

It is so much fun for the little ones! Of course they got way too much candy so we used to ration it out to them - generous rations though. Mine cared more about the adventure of the walk and checking out everyone's house than they did about the candy - until they got home...

Heidi, I love the sound of that spider! We have one that drops down if there is a loud noise. Unfortunately making the loud noise is a bit of a giveaway that something is going to happen...

Hi all.

I enjoy seeing the little ones, but we also get teenagers (some bigger than hubby). You feel like you have to give them something or they'll come back later.
The police patrol the streets and give candy out to the kids.

Do you guys have haunted houses? Hubby won't take me to them anymore.

Unfortunately, it only worked once, and committed suicide. I don't remember where I got it, and the collies have since chewed it up. IH likes to store decorations where they can be reached by the dogs. Even if I carefully put stuff away, he moves it.

I never got to go to a Haunted House Becky. We had a Halloween party here one year because the kids don't get to go trick or treating. Hubby converted an old shed with lots of black fabric. We had tubs with spaghetti (brains), boiled eggs (eye balls) etc etc. Kids had to put their hands in without looking. It was meant to be 30 minutes distraction but hubby was stuck there for 2 hours as they kids kept coming back for more...

Everybody.
Susan...I'm so glad you managed to track us down for a natter.
Have really enjoyed reading up on all the posts...having a good giggle at all the IH's .....

Wondering if I should add my 2 bobs worth....instead of MIL coming over here I sent hubby over there....well, that's not quite how it really happened. Keeps him busy living in 2 places.... the constant running backwards and forwards wasn't easy the way it was before. A few bonus's....he is learning how to cook and keep house now MIL needs looking after. With a bit of luck by the time we sort out her living arrangements he will have discovered all the things I've been doing all these years to make things run smoothly....he might even take over the cooking!!!
