No I was the same. My parents have been dead for over 10 years and I too had receipts etc.
I was living in Port when they died so had to go home to Geelong and clean out the whole house and put it to auction.
My Mum had saved everything, even the love letters her father sent her mother. I still have them though.
It was just incredible and I had to be so ruthless doing that with their house as I could not bring everything back to Port.
But I just had too much stuff here and after coming back from my holiday this time I just decided it was time for a big clean out.
This included quitting the Nutrimetics and UnderCoverWear. So far have done Ethans room, the sunroom and the linen press today.
I have already thrown out half my wardrobe but have to go through the cupboards in there next.
Thank heavens I have a small house, only two bedrooms and a sunroom !!

HI BRONI, good to see you. Well, now you have heard the story, and although MIL is no longer with us, I think of her fondly every time I must change my clocks.

Hello all! Brought out my chair yesterday cos I thought I'd be lounging around here once Mike left for the weekend. Instead I was over playing "Scrabble Cubes" all day on Worldwinner.com.
What an addict I am - I truly belong here on SA, even if I had a slip in the Scrabble realm!

CONGRATS VIV, way to go! it does not take long to get through a page when several of us are here same time, does it?

OH, I can be ruthless tossing things! it is hubby who wants to hold on to EVERYTHING! never looks at his old stuff, but just cannot throw it away, any of it. I have to sneal to throw away his stuff!

Once I had cleaned out his closet. He worked on office machines then, mostly copy machines. Toner for copy machines espically the liquid kind, will NOt come out of shirts or pants (trousers?) . He wore dress shirts and dress pants and we shopped in the thrift stores, cause there was no telling if he would wear a shirt once or 10 times before he ruined it. could not wear them with big black spots on them, but he could not throw them away either. " I will wear them for working on cars or painting".

One day, when ther ewere so many old soiled shirts in his closet he could not find one to wear to work, I decided to clean them out. I removed a garbage bag of them! It was not trash day, so I put them in the well house so he would not find them, and then promptly forgot them!

Much much later, he came inside bringing damp, mouldy shirts in a trash bag! LOOK what I fould, we must have forgot these when we were moving. you can wash them and get the mould out for me.

yeah right! I said OH, thank you, and put them near the washeing machine. next day was trash day. As soon as he left for work, those went in the bin and were GONE! He never did realize they were gone, either hehehe.

Sorry I missed you Liz - Sweet dreams!
It's actually 3:40 a.m. here right now - because of the time change back to Standard time.
I need to go back and find MzT's clock story. Viv - glad you are enjoying your new pooter room!

Oh MzT! LOVED your story about the moldy clothes! I, too, am ruthless about tossing "stuff" - it feels SO GOOD! Of course, in my haste I have disposed of some things I have later regretted, but only for a few moments and then it was forgotten. I think we have WAY too much "stuff" anyway! But don't take away my pooter!!!

OH, there is one thing I tossed when Mom moved from our family home to an appartment. Hidden away in the top of a closet was 2 huge boxes of bits and pieces of fabric. on looking I realized one was the " flour sacks" my grandmother had saved and one wasa the flour sacks Mom had saved, back when flour was bought in 25 pound sacks of printed cotton. To me at that time, they were just musty bits of fabric, not big enough to be useful! Well, if I had hung onto them just a few more years, till I started quilting, would have known thier value! There were several hundreds of dollars of vintage fabric there that could have been sold on e-bay and still used to make at least one vintage quilt!

Those flour sacks went to a thrift store, with every thing else, a mountain of stuff. I can only hope some quilter found them and put them to good use!

Hi Broni. Everything I have cleaned out has gone to the op shop.
Oh except 6 big boxes of books from my sunroom.
Ethan's old primary school has a fete on Nov. 21st so I gave them all to them. They will sell them very very cheaply so lots of people will get some enjoyment out of them.

VIV, is an op shop what we call a thrift store? Where second hand items are donated to them and proceeds of the sale of them go to some charity?

Sorry to disappear for a moment - catching up on reading...so grateful it was semi-quiet yesterday.
Bean and Becky - love your updates...it really helps!
Broni - Your "gift of old age" was so on the button! I, too, loved my 30's and 40's (good years) but life does get sweeter the more it pays to surrender to "what is" and not fight anyone or anything (especially where my body is going!) I am, like Lizzy, most of the time very grateful.

Evening ladies...nice to see you at this time Viv
Chuckling about changing clocks.
The very first year it came in people came to work at the most bizarre times...some an hour early, some an hour late....I was on night duty and all I wanted to do was go home to bed...I was not amused.

Pete usually changes all the clocks here [because I can never remember how to do the stove, microwave and I can't reach the wall clocks]...this year he forgot and jumped on his bike and rode off to his mothers..it was mid afternoon before I realised !!!

Yes MizT you are spot on. Today we took everything I had cleaned out to the bins they have around town for you to put all your things in.
Seeing as it is Sunday here the op shops are not open. Usually I take them direct to the shop.

Yeah Vici, life is good...better than the alternative!
MizT Op-Shop opportunity shop, and the proceeds do go to the needy. You can also pick up some good bargains as well.
Sudoku time is still my time, so my southern sisters will be totally confused.

MzT - loved your MIL story! I change the clocks in the evening of the day before...but yesterday (with Mike gone) I changed them as soon as he left...so it would feel like I had an extra hour in the house alone! Well, it didn't really work - time just flew by as usual!
'ello Beanie Baby! Good to catch Twin Viv and Broni here too!

I am strolling through ebay looking for a black lace top. Actually just like a cardigan type one.
Do not want it to do up, not too long, with short or capped sleeves. Want it to wear over some nice cami's I have.

YES, I do believe page 300 will be a record, pretty sure we are already past any former SA page. I could go and check if you really want accurate information. I still have links to ALL the SA pages, does that tell you I am an addict or what??
