Suzy - I think counting BOPP's may be a little OTT.

Someone mentioned it the other day (because they kept getting the last post and not the first one) and it was chatted about while my eyes opened wide at the thought of all that competition! Not even I am that competitive!

Viv, the main question to me would be whether or not Ethan knew about this policy in advance. There hopefully won't be many times in his life that he sees someone get away with something that he doesn't get away with, but it will happen.

I keep saying we need to count 2nd place , or rather the runner-up. In case the winner becomes disqualified.
I am now only 3 behind June. I hadn't realized that I was so close.

Good maEn, Everyone! I'm just popping in as we are waiting for a financial planner to arrive. Yeah, I know, you need to have money for a financial planner to use - but it's a favor to a friend.
Wow! Eight pages to read since last night. I may not get caught up today! Hope to see all of you later!

The devil in me has thought about getting a post removed on the very first page - which would change the TOPPs for the whole of SA6! Just imagine the impact on the list!!

oops...how did it get to afternoon?
Better get a wriggle on if I'm to meet Kate for coffee!!!
Mariana I KNEW you would understand about taps! Where should shocked at how expensive they have become? How is your research into lighting going? I need something really good above the vanity for when I am applying the spackfiller.... I need something to make me look bootiful and better than I am in real life.... I do not want lighting that amplifies all my imperfections and makes me give up before starting....

What a wonderful fiendish plot. I'm sure I would have more than 5 TOPP's that way - I can't count the times I've been second.

It's just past 11.15AM here in Brissie and at 11AM I had my own private minute's silence.
It was serene and peaceful and I feel good for having done it.
Lest we forget

Viv...poor Ethan...let us know how the phone call goes. It is great to have a job at 15 but you don't want to encourage him to accept any conditions that the employers dish out.
Heidi has a good point. Shouldn't be dismissed summarily just because of Ethan's age. We have always been available to talk things like that through with Lachie and advised him on ways to handle them but have encouraged him to deal with it himself. If he asks us to intervene on his behalf we do.

Hi Suzy...how awful to miss that important email...must go check my junk folder now!!!
I feel I should apologise for laughing so uproariously at you and your scissors yesterday...oh my...but I can't. I am still giggling. I am so glad to hear that they all ate it and Ally had seconds!! Your hubby sounds like the sort of person to listen to! We always use basmati for the same reason.

My mum was a nurse and in her day if they broke a thermometer [and who hasn't done that] it was taken out of their pay. It was considered the done thing then...thankfully conditions have improved a lot since then.
I can't believe how low this employer is... I certainly wouldn't be giving them any business!! Exploitation of minors would certainly catch the headlines if he loses his job over this. It certainly shouldn't be ignored.

Back in the good old days ... my first job was working behind the counter at Coles [big variety store]...nothing was prepacked in those days. I coveted a job behind the lolly counter...there you got to weigh and bag up all the lollies.... Hmm...used to have a lot of new friends in those days...wonder why!! My dad was the only one that got lucky and the scoop really 'slipped' for... I got sprung devouring the profits once too often and the manager moved me to manchester... SOB!!! He never docked my pay but would frown if he saw me fraternising behind the lolly counter and I would go scurrying back to my hole...

Suzy, got to admit, I did let out a little chuckle. I know I've done a few "odd" things in the kitchen.

Viv, don't know what the laws are there, so can't comment on that part. Was thinking tho that if he meets with his boss and explains that no one else has been garnished, she might just let him off with a warning. Before you talk to her, ask Ethan how he feels about you doing it. He might want to fight his own "battle."
Nola, can see where you're coming from. My first employer was my second cousin. I was 16 at the time.
Bean, I worked at 4 restaurants while in school and college. All of them except one made us pay for most of we ate. The only things that were free was soda, french fries and the cheapest sandwich on the menu.
A lot of smaller restaurants don't make a boat load of money. Between rent, utilities, food cost, payroll, insurance, worker's comp., etc., there's not a lot left over.

Suzy, the only one that didn't make me pay for anything was the lunch counter at the college. The food director needed someone at the last minute, so gave me free food and some cash.

Now that would have been a good college job! I look back and don't know how I survived on the money I had available. I remember eating a lot of Mars bars, which were cheaper than a sandwich or other lunch-type foods, but I would have done that anyway because Mars bars were much yummier!!

Anyone who lived on campus was supposed to eat in the dining hall. I was let out of that for my last 2 years, 'cause my doctor (a family friend) wrote a letter telling them that I was on a specialized diet. Cooked in my dorm room (big no-no) and saved a lot money.
