Haven't caught anything since the raccoon. I hope the wildlife that was comfortable in my barn is now gone.

Tomorrow I'm taking Robert back to the dernatologist. The biopsy came back as a bad type of cancer... Robert couldn't remember what type... and one spot is really hurting him. Even though the surgery isn't scheduled for another month, they want to see him tomorrow because of the excessive pain.

The dermatologist told Robert that the afflicted area looks about like they expected it to. No major emergency. They just told him what over-the-counter pain meds to take: Every 3 hours alternating Ibuprofen and Tylenol. Poor guy is in pain. I wish they'd given him something stronger.💊

Hi all, I haven't been here for quite a while, just been busy, until this last week when we started seeing the start of a huge natural disaster here, what they are calling a 'rain bomb'. Massive flooding started in towns north of us, Brisbane has been inundated to a degree that is worse than the 2011 and 1973 floods. Nobody was expecting this to happen again so quickly. So many communities devastated. Their houses under water. Few people were able to get much out it happened so quickly and unexpectedly. We are fine as are my extended family, we all live in areas that don't flood. But our Hayley was, and still is, at her boyfriend's family home west of Brisbane. The house is safe but the area is under water. She may be there for a week or so yet waiting for roads to open and possibly need repairs. Our area got 750mls (30 inches) in 3-4 days. This was less than most other areas, some got twice as much. The weather phenomenon is still going south into NSW and causing more devastation. I've never seen anything like this. Next up will be a massive clean-up, and billions of $$$ in claims.
Very, very sad.

So sorry to hear about the massive flooding, CynB! Thank goodness most of your family (except Hayley) aren't directly impacted.

Today I got a 3 weeks supply of feed for everybody, and unloaded it. Now I don't have to lift anything heavy for weeks. I also stocked up on stuff for me. I think I'm ready for the surgery. I hope. I leave for the surgery in 13 1/2 hours.

The surgery was a pain-free breeze. I was only in there for an hour and a quarter, and I was sedated but awake for the surgery. I'll have floaters for the next week or so, and I can't get dust in the eye, so I cover the eye with a bandana when I go to the barns, and wear wrap around sunglasses the rest of the time. Today they did ny dominant eye, so I'm not seeing well today. Next week's surgery will be even easier because my dominant eye will be stronger, and my weaker eye will be covered by the bandana when I collect eggs.

The trap isn't set, and I don't plan on setting it again until I've recovered from the second surgery. The last thing I need is to risk being sprayed in the eyes by a skunk after cataract surgery.

I had the follow up appointment with the optometrist today. They were thrilled with the results of the surgery.... it's healing ideally.... and my vision in that eye is so good now that they took that lens out of my glasses! I can see the computer screen crystal clear now with my left eye!!! I can't wait to get the second eye done.
I'm not allowed to get any dust in the eye, so they told me to stay away from the barn and chicken coop. I can't do that, so instead I cover the left eye with a bandana when I go out there to feed. That means I can only use the fuzzy right eye, but I can function like that if I'm careful. So far it's working like a charm.

I just got home from a wonderful concert. The Oak Ridge Boys!!! They're definitely getting up there in years.... they range from Joe Bonsall at 76 to William Lee Golden at 84. The only one who is still in full voice is William Lee Golden. But they can still harmonize and sing beautifully. The a capella songs were their best.

First calf of the season was just born. A nice big bull calf for Mike. It came as a surprise since he thought she was going to be the last one to calve, not the first. We both figured calving was going to start this week or next.

It was a really good epidural. It feels different than they used to, because they're using a different drug which seems to last longer.

Back home from the second cataract surgery! This one I was able to see what he was doing, but it didn't hurt at all. A weird experience. I have a lot more floaters in this eye, but they will eventually go away.

One of Mike's cows had a bull calf yesterday. One of my cows had a bull calf today and another of Mike's cows had a heifer today!!!
That's 4 calves on the ground now. And the temperature is starting to plummet. It was in the mid-50's all day, and just started to drop. It's supposed to start snowing in an hour and drop down to 19ËšF / -7.2ËšC tonight, with a wind chill of 0ËšF/ -17.8ËšC. Thank goodness they have a shed to get into!

Heidi, good news about your epidural! Hopefully the results will last until your next one!

Last week I had an injection in my hip. The pain doctor asked if I wanted an epidural or injection in my hip. I chose that because my hip pain has been the overriding pain lately.

Good new that your second cataract surgery went so well! Please continue to be as careful in the coming week as you were with the first surgery!

The calves seem to be coming quickly. Is Mike able to help with the ear tagging or other tasks, at least as you recover from your surgery? I hope the very cold temperatures quickly move out of the area!

Mike is doing all the cow checks and tagging right now, as well as putting out hay.

We got over 6 inches of snow last night, and it's bitterly cold out, with the wind chill. I'm glad the calves were at least able to dry off before this hit. Mike and I just checked them, and they're all doing well.

The actual temperature is 19ËšF / -7.2ËšC with a wind chill at 6ËšF / -14.4ËšC. And it's not supposed to get much warmer than that today.

Another of my cows just had twins in this cold. Mike had to rush them to the Vet Clinic to try to save them. I'm waiting to hear how they're doing.

Their temps are still too low. They'll have to stay at the Clinic overnight, then we'll try to get them back with Mom in the morning, if she'll take them.

The twins survived the night and are now back here and locked in a pen in the barn with their mother to bond.
