Good news at last Heidi! So please you have fixed your blood problem.
Great TOPP!

Waiting for 2 of my granddaughters to come and take me shopping and to lunch. It's great having adult grandies!

I ended up canceling the appointment with the hematologist, since everything is back the way it should be. I figured going to see him would be a waste of his time and mine, as well as a waste of my money.

Good onya, CynB, for going ''smoke free''. I had my last about 10 pm, 31 Dec, 1979. Easy to remember, because waiting to fall asleep I thought - ''No New Year Resolution'' - maybe I'll quit smoking. Not one since... Of course I'm occasionally subjected to second hand smoke - ugh!

I didn't get as many as I'd hoped. I was looking for really good young heifers at a bargain price. I got one solid red one for me and one white faced red one for Robert. He really wanted a cow of his own. His went cheap because she has a touch of pink-eye, which is easily treated. I'll go back another week and get another solid red one for me.

Mike the Vet will be here in just over an hour to work the 2 new heifers. Both will be getting vaccinated, dewormed and treated with lice preventative. Robert's heifer will also be treated for pinkeye.
I'm delighted with the dispositions of both heifers. Very calm and cool.

We got the 2 heifers worked easy peasy. They're both so laid back and calm that it was a real pleasure working them. Mike was impressed with both dispositions and excellent conformations. We gave them both antibiotics as well, in case they caught anything at the sale barn. They'll be quarantined from the rest of the cattle for 2 weeks in case.

Oh, yeah. Mine appears to be a purebred Red Angus. Robert's looks like a Hereford/Red Angus cross.

Tonight is supposed to be the last cold night for a while. It's supposed to hit 32˚F / 0˚C. Then it'll be warmer for at least the next 2 weeks. Monday we're supposed to hit a high of 80˚F / 26.7˚C and a low of 64˚F / 17.8˚.

OMG, I was signed out somehow. That's what I get for staying up too late and falling asleep at the computer, I guess. And I'm struggling now to stay awake. So I'll just say Good Night; Sleep Tight and stay well, Everyone!

Yes, DOrA, it's been pretty darn cold here too. I hope I got the outside water source turned off before we hit freezing temperatures 2 nights in a row. Take care, Everyone!

The two new heifers are doing so well. They can come out of quarantine and join the herd in one week (Hallowe'en).
Robert came by yesterday to visit his girl and take pictures.

My old tricolor Rough Collie Timmy passed away last night.

Timmy was a rescue I got over 12 years ago. One afternoon I was working out in the hay field, baling square bales of Timothy hay and I got a call from the head of our Collie Rescue group telling me that there was a young Collie in a kill shelter an hour north of me (2 1/2 hours north of her) who was scheduled to be euthanized in 2 hours. I dropped what I was doing and rushed up there to pull him from the shelter. I was then to drive him to the home of our Rescue head. The young dog was a severely traumatized tricolor Rough Collie who had been beaten, then thrown from a moving car going 50 MPH. (He developed epilepsy from that.) He spent all his time at the shelter cowering in a corner, shaking, so nobody would adopt him. He wouldn't even look at the shelter employees. I walked in with him, talking to him, and we bonded instantly. He looked up at me and wagged his tail, to the shock of the employees. I took him home and informed the Rescue head that I was adopting him myself. I named him Timothy (Timmy for short) because I was working with Timothy hay when I heard about him. He had a happy life here, being loved and spoiled rotten.

I'm about to do something crazy-ish. I'm off to look at a new horse, a 6 year old Thoroughbred gelding. He's supposedly a nice, quiet riding horse. Of my 6 horses, 5 are retired and the other 1 keeps injuring her feet, so isn't presently usable either. I really want to get back to riding.

OK. I got him. I'm planning on giving him a couple of days to adjust to his new home before riding him.
His registered name is ''Hold Em And Fold Em''. They call him ''Poker Joe''. He has both Secretariat and Seattle Slew in his pedigree. They tried racing him but he was too laid back to want to race.

By now, somebody may have spotted the pattern. When I lose a beloved animal, I distract myself by getting a new one to occupy my mind.

Just to clarify, Heidi, are you enjoying working ''ON'' (as in repairing) or with your tractor.

Yeah. I know - nit-picky...

My farrier will be stopping by at 8:00 am tomorrow to trim Poker Joe's feet. Since the other horses were done 5 days ago, it'll put them all on the same schedule.

We're getting a very much needed rain today. It'a supposed to continue until early afternoon tomorrow, so shouldn't interfere much with Hallowe'en festivities.

Gosh, I haven't been here for a few weeks. All is OK, just haven't been spending much time on the laptop. I've been sorting through cupboards and clothes and now have bags and bags to take to the charity shops.
Heidi, sorry to hear about Timmy. Sounds like he had a happy life with you.
You're all getting cold over there and we've just had our first hot spell. It was quite late, last few days of October, usually happens early in October. All the eastern states have had heaps of rain and flooding, even inland. Raining and cool again today.
Our family is in birthday mode again - November to January, there are 7 of us. Starting tomorrow when my grandson turns 24. And Emily, remember little Emily, is 21 next week. I will then have 4 grandies over 21, and 1 turning 17 in December. The older 4 all have serious partners and there's talk of engagements in the next year or so for 2 of them. Where does the time go?

I took Robert to a doctor's appointment yesterday.... foot problems... and he has another appointment today, with his orthopedist. he's trying to arrange to get both knees replaced. He can barely walk right now. Poor guy. He's had so many problems since his stroke 4 years ago. It was a massive one. The doctors had said he'd never walk again, and would probably have to spend the rest of his life in a nursing home. He's too stubborn and cussed to accept that and has been fighting for his independence ever since. But the toll on his body has been horrendous.

I'm taking Katy (my oldest dog... a sable merle Smooth Collie) into the Vet clinic. She has a haematoma on her right ear that needs to be lanced.

My Appaloosa, Red Hawk, injured his shoulder years ago and had to be retired from being ridden. It's been hurting more and more over the years. Pain meds used to help, but he now refuses to take them. Today, he's hurting so much that he cannot walk. I'm having Mike the Vet put him down tonight to spare him any more pain.

When we went to put Hawk down, we discovered that he was also in total liver failure. For his sake, I'm glad he's no longer in pain. But I'll miss him something awful.
