Hi Becca, Hope you enjoy it here in Sudokuland.
In what part of OK do you live? I am up in B'ville. Were you on Sudoku a couple years ago?
Have a great Easter.

a rainy day here near Chicago, my son left got on the train to head downtown for the Chicago Cubs opening home game then back to college for him, I'm at home on my 10th load of laundry !! He brought all his clothes home this time. Well, it makes my feel needed - I'm off soon to teach my water classes -- enjoy your time on the site, Mary

Hello, Becca, and welcome.

Some time ago, there was a Becca who was an administrative assistant (or whatever you want to call the job) in a school in OK. There was a great chair fiasco when someone stole your chair.

Are you the very same lady?

Ian

Gday BeccaBoo, sorry it took me so long to get here with belated wishes.
I saw your post on today's easy and popped over to find I missed your entrance. We have had a busy week here and I have not been coming to very much.
Loved going through your photos, your page is already looking very comfy. Please drop into mine sometime...I would love to know the story about that shiner!

Hi, Bec,

I don't collect Hummels, but I did inherit a few.

Like any pottery, age, condition and rarity are the key factors. There was also a time when, like lots of other things, somebody cheapened a very good brand with lots of junk (and I mean Hummel itself, not just imitators). So there are Hummels which are worth thousands and some that aren't worth cabinet room. Age (before the mass production) is probably the most important.

I have gotten a few good tips through googling 'Hummel' for reference material on telling age and rarity, and especially looking at eBay. There are also cheap books on eBay that are more or less reliable; but watching the actual, final price on eBay of figures which are the same as yours is the best indicator.

(If you've never used eBay, it can be confusing at first. Usually, the real price doesn't show up until the last few seconds of bidding. I buy other pottery there, and things may go from $100 to $700 in the final minute of a 7-day auction.)

All the best, Ian
