Golden Orb Spider at Gumbo Limbo Nature Preserve in Boca Raton, Florida, USA

BOO! The Golden Orb Spider (Naphila clavipes) is one of the largest web-making spiders in the world. This big female is nearly the size of my hand, including her legs. The tiny spider above her is the male. There are many of them near the footpaths in Gumbo Limbo Nature Preserve. As I put my camera about one foot away for this pic, I could feel my heart rate increase...... Happy Halloween!
